yup, unticked the "receive incoming beams" part and never did any bluetooth/wifi at all..yep, the battery lasts about max 1 day for incoming/outgoing calls.

calling via the phone software, troublesome. my personal experience, sometimes it just hung...and i have to reboot

and yeah, changing the SIM card ..be careful, cos there's some secret trick to it. if i don't do it SLOW enough..(taking out battery after switching OFF...), most probably it will REFORMAT itself.

so, it's a pda/phone with wifi/bluetooth function i dare not use much (due to short battery life) and also phone function that is reliant on the software to operate...and the possibility of getting data reformatted... and also (OS problem) a lot of applications that don't really CLOSE when you close them..(have to go to Settings/Memory...close programs to really exit them!)

it's a worry, not a helping tool to me.

anyone interested, i'd be willing to sell it off at a reasonable loss.

Just wait for the better firmware that solve the battery problem. BenQ is working on it. If you are working at office, charge with your pc. If you are salesman, charge with you car. No problem to charge it right? Only lazy people will suffer. :P

Untick the receive all incoming beams option in connection>beams section to close the infra red signal. Everytime, for e.g. u use Windows Player 10, please remember to stop it under memory section as this will eat up ur program memory n make it slow n also drains ur battery. That's y u drain ur battery so fast without turning on bluetooth or wifi. I can survive 3 days though.

If you fear ur data loses, pls backup regularly. I'm backing everyday n doesn't have any wrong with it. No hard reset by itself.

Please check ur firmware version whether it's v1.05 or v1.07 coz this two version got some problem. Mine is v1.08 n it works fine. The latest is v1.11 but i recommend all not to flash it urself as it might onli support chinese OS onli.

I personally think the battery problem is cause by software because i got notice once that my phone drop under 30%, i do restoring, it back up to 46%. That was happening on once occasion n i dunno y. Remember the battery is 1240mAh which is very high power. So hopefully software is the main problem for battery consumption.

I bought the P50 about a few weeks ago and I have not been able to enjoy it at all. My worries are more now since I used the PDA phone (I switched from Nokia 9500 to this P50).

Many problems I faced, this is not the first time I'm using a PDA phone. I had an O2 xda II, I still have my 9500. This is not very useful to me, P50.

It had already done hard reset by itself a few times already.

I lost my data many times. Now I am afraid to put any data into the PDA at all.

The battery life is so short and it can't even last one full day, and that is , I'm not using GPRS/Bluetooth OR wifi at all!

Also, I do not know why BenQ made the P50 with the INFRA RED ALWAYS ON! No wonder the phone loses battery life so quickly!

Being a personal organiser which loses data at its whim and fancy, I do not input any data at all into the PDA nowadays.

Even the telephone function is bad. I keep on having problems trying to control the phone via the software e.g. when i press to cancel the call, it still won't! So the calls keep on going on until i do a soft reset.

This is very disappointing, since I bought the phone for its organiser, wifi, etc functions.

now i can't trust it to do email, gprs etc etc cos i think it loses data so often that it's better not to put any data at all into it.

The P50 looked promising at first, but it doesn't deliver at all...disappointing.

The website is in http://www.benq.com.tw . Goto software download section and look for Smartphone categories. The file is around 34MB. But i advice not to download it and flash yourself as i think it is for chinese OS only. If something wrong and you want to retrieve back to old version is very hard, have to send back to factory. I just stay at v1.08 and wait for software update from english website http://www.benq.com

P-50 is a good gadget, compact and handy. But Battery efficiencies is not supporting the gadgets.

Upgraded to the new firmware 1.10 for 1.08. This is the first time BenQ posted the upgrade on their web site. However, I find that the phone becomes erratic in performance vs 1.08. However, there's an improvement in battery life.

I recently got a P50 as agift. I am unable to send SMS ... everytime I try, I get a message saying "Outlook email, IMAP4 and POP3 accounts ... " So I select my message account as "Text Messages" ... but when I click "send", It just goes sits in my outbox ..... but never leaves the outbox and reaches my recipient .... Somebody please help me out here. The messages I receive need to be accessed through "SIM Messages" only ..... and upon viewing the messages, I am unable to reply because of the above problem.

I got my P50 on 4 October. Guess wat... firmware v1.08 which is the latest. I can beam contact now and the phone is rock.

The battery problem which u all mention is depend on ur usage. If u run a program n doesn't stop it, it will still run in the background. This will drain ur battery fast, even when idle. Everytime finish doing something, goto settings->memory->running program and stop all task.

Another way to save battery power is turn off beam, bluetooth and wifi when not use.

The 3rd suggestion is make the phone is power saving mode. But this will make some program run not quite smooth. After i make this changes, my phone drain off battery after 3 days for my usual usage.

Remember to backup ur phone frequently so that ur contact will not gone. I got 1000+ over contct which i can't save into my sim card, that's y.

As for the phone hang problem, pls consider which program u want to install b4 u install it as there is limited space for it. When the storage reached its peak, when u run many programs it will hang. Normally wat i do is to adjust the program memory to maximum in order to run my program smoothly.

Hope u all enjoy ur new phone n dun blame it after u buy. I really enjoy it.
