Anonymous, 23 Mar 2010 Dude as i am also an Asian and I can say, having an expen... moreI think I kind of understand your point, as I used to use "dumbphones" before getting into smartphones. But, I don't think it's fair to call a smartphone a simple item of "social status". I used to think texting and calling are all you needed in a cell phone. Times have changed. There are different reasons for people to use a smartphone these days. I, for one, help my dad run his small business using my Blackberry. I recieve and answer his emails as well as sending shipment orders via email. Sure there are people who need them for internet if their provider's internet costs too much, or people just want to have the latest phones. But still those people start learning the different things they can do and soon will be using nothing but smartphones, be it Blackberry, Palm, Windows phone 7, Android phones, hell, even the iPhone.
Smartphones aren't for businessmen anymore. They offer so much for socialnetworking, chatting, multimedia sharing... it beats carrying aroung a laptop or sitting at home on a desktop computer.
People have the right, as consumers, to purchase whatever they want and use it however they want. I might be using it for business and social networks, but someone else might just use it for one or the other. And it's not just in "rich" countries either. I'm in Mexico, people barely know about smartphones here. In the USA there are more smartphone users even if they don't like paying for data plans... and in countries like India, etc smartphones are selling great. Blackberry had a major boost in sales in India where people were saying that having a Blackberry with internet costs less then have internet at home... So, no. Smartphones aren't "social status icons". They are perfectly suitable for everyone who can afford one.

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2010 Dude as i am also an Asian and I can say, having an expen... morehahaha... so you are using N1100 and giving your comments about smartphone? Ok. Let's agree that your opinion is of some worth. But my dear friend, you really really don't know what is the meaning of R&D. First get into something, only then you will come to know. As I am practically into R&D, I can bet you have simply NO idea how things get better. About what you said regarding burst of market, the burst of market never happens due to product itself. Markets collapse only on funding and financing grounds. And house business is an excellent example.

Dude as i am also an Asian and I can say, having an expensive handset/smartphone is still a social status, they like to show off the device when ever they can! Many of them don't know all the function, features, real time uses.

The market growth of smartphone is highest in Asia and this could mislead the OEM. Other sense the R&D guys are doing nothing just to provide the product what the market want! Because they are looking to earn billion by investing million of dollar! i am not interested to go through this kind of argument, what is civilized or not. as an example, if my network provider does not have 3G network, then why do I need 3G device with front facing camera :o) if it takes 5 sec to process a picture, also killing my battery (by NOKIA E72 or N97 with 5MP) then why do I need 12MP??? how 32 GB mass memory will help you out with what kind of contents??? music, pic, doc, video, or ...

well you are using BB Tour and as you said that you are happy, as you have got everything with your device what you want in your day to day life or business!

The smart phone market is very much booming since 2006 and it remains me the IT boom of 2000, which burst 2001. The booming thing can burst very easily that we have had the experience from housing business burst in 2008!

well i am not an economist or smart phone user. i have just a NOKIA 1100, and I am really happy with that :o)

                      take care

Anonymous, 21 Mar 2010this gonna be a cheap Asian mentality to have 12 MP camera,... moreThe first sentence has a racial slur and that makes the conversation cheap..We are civilised people, aint we? now u also talked about people being able to convince OEMs on SUCH demands..Well!! millions of dollars go into R&D and i am sure if an OEM launches a phone, then they have done appropriate research and that includes listening to people like u and me. Whats wrong in expecting 12 MP cameras and 32 GB memory? Why would i need a faster processor when what i have is fast enuff anyways? If u are talking about fast processers then please define how fast and Why? I use a BB Tour and am happy with the speed.. even on EDGE, which i think is good enough and i am definitely happy with BB.

Blackberry Bold 9700 is the best phone. Very elegant! Yah! Once you have a BLACKBERRY phone, you're always in!

Nokia phones are also good but still Blackberry is best.

Nokia phones are embarrassing because after a few months they will release again new units - which can make the customers regret because the new units were much better than the nokia phones they already have.

Blackberry is a luxurious phone and one of a kind!

                                        E72 vs Blackberry Bold 9700

I'll still get Blackberry because I know Nokia will just make me regret someday. No matter how old your Blackberry is, you're still in! =) Having a BLACKBERRY is such a privilege.
