Um, maybe because not everybody needs e-mail from their cell. I am thinking about getting the curve simply for its organizational capabilities, camera and photo storage, good call clarity, and gps capability (at&t). I won't even activate its web browsing feature. Currently, at $99, I can't go wrong.

Errm, pardon me, but why the heck would I wan to get a BlackBery without the email package? I mean, that just baffles me. In the UK now, some stores make the email package mandatory.
The phone just isn't fun without the push-email facility.

              I agree!

'''What I don't use: email/blackberry internet pack (can't justify the cost, really) - some may say that defeats the purpose of having a bb, but I really wanted a phone with a qwerty keyboard so that I don't spend ages making entries in the calendar; I do use the calendar a lot."""

I just want a phone that I can slam the calendar regularly, with lots of info (full keyboard)... a phone that has great voice and signal quality... GPS to boot would be good but not necessary. Help!

??Currently with AT&T, can I activate/use the 8310 without having to have a internet package on my plan? Today in AT&T's store the rep told me I could not. However recently customer service told me I could activate/use a Treo without the internet package. Thanks in advance for any help.

                Hi,
Had this phone for about 3 months now, so for those thinking about getting one, here are some good/bad points:

                The good:
                - great to have the qwerty keyboard! From now on I won't have any other phone without one!
                - Works well with my various bluetooth devices (various headsets, incl 2x helmet mounted Scala Rider, tomtom unit)
                - trackball is easy to get used to
                - there's more but go on and discover them yourselves :)

What I don't use: email/blackberry internet pack (can't justify the cost, really) - some may say that defeats the purpose of having a bb, but I really wanted a phone with a qwerty keyboard so that I don't spend ages making entries in the calendar; I do use the calendar a lot.
I didn't use the GPS so can't comment on that

Now for the bad and downright ugly:
I don't know if it's just my handset (I'm thinking it could be, in view of how extatic other people on this site seem to be about the 8310), but the sound quality is unbelievably poor! My 3yold Nokia 6230i sounds much much better! So if you're thinking of buying one, make sure you make a few phone calls in the shop (noisy area) to see if you can live with such poor sound. HTH

Is there even a video camera on the phone or does it simply have video support

                            Hi,

I got the phone last week and so far so good. I have used alot of PDA's etc but always fancied a Blackberry so thought what the heck.

Definatley a great benift for e-mail, qwerty keyboard that you can even use with one hand, no sliding keyboards out etc.

Only downside I have noticed is you are unable to to video messages. (or so I beleive, I would love to be proved wrong as I would very much have liked this feature).

GPS I thought was not too good, but it's a phone, comes in handy if your out and about walking I must say - leave the big daddy GPS in the car where it belongs.

Overall - I love it, miss a few of the things you would get on a regular phone but this baby does a lot more than a regular phone.

For those who are hesitent about buying it, don't be (I was) but just went for it and think I am going to keep it now.

Enjoy it if you get it.

                            P.S.

Anyone know how to get MSN on it? I have tried downloading from a link I have previously seen but this did not work on my handset. Any help would be appreciated.

This phone is an excellent purchase. The Blackberry function negates the need for wifi or G3 unless you are 12. The functionality and usability of the phone, especially the qwerty keyboard only becomes evident with ownership. The GPS is usable and there are other great funtions like messenger and voice notes (allows you to send a voice message by mms) but none comapre to the superb email/calender abilities. Being able to sync your calender with an office PC remotely is very valuable especially if you have an assistant. This is not just a business phone but suitable for anyone who relies on email daily. Blackberry have resisted camara functions as it concentrates on the US market where business phones often come camera-less for security reasons.

I have just convinced a colleague to get it. It has been fun watching his excitement over how easy it is to use and how capable it is.

Buy this phone, you'll love it.
