hi, seeing alot of comments about the phones ppl have that are sticking.
your bb holds information on EVERYTHING you do on it.
as you can imagine, after several weeks of moderate to heavy use, that log will become crowded...
on your bb's home screen, hold "alt" and press "LGLG" it will bring up your handset's entire history log, not your net log, THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF EVENTS, APPLICATION USAGE ETC...
Use the menu key to clear the log, and reboot your phone.
it will run smooth as silk after that :)

I've had this phone for almost 5 months and it's my first blackberry. For the price, it's a pretty sweet deal. In my opinion it's a great phone and yes, to enjoy it you should get a data plan. Apps, functionality and ease of use are very high with this model. The battery life could have been better (I usually charge at the end of the day) and I do miss a radio function (although with a 16GB memory card and support for up to 32GB doesn't worry me much). Overall I give it 9 out of ten. It's a great buy if you're new to blackberries and also if you'd like to go easy on the pocket (the other models are a tad bit too expensive). With an appropriate data plan you'll be well on your way. :)

and yes you will need a data plan to use the better apps. you may access such sites as facebook on wi-fi (and of course other sites) but they wont be made for blackberry. Also you wont get your emails or anything like that.
