No one ever said that all BlackBerry-phones are locked to a specific network. It depends in which country its being sold and if RIM BlackBerry and any of the provider decide if there is going to be a exclusivity-deal.

In The Netherlands you can buy the phone without contract for about 250-300 euros, and with contract starting 25/mnth

I have to say from my experience with bb i am happy with this handset. THere has not been many changes but changing the rollerball option for a touch sensor was a good idea. I dont know about anybody else but I've had to replace my bb 2 times because of this rollerball. Nightmare why did they just not keep the scroller at the side.

is the phone functionality (volume , interface) of BlackBerry Curve 8520 better than the functionality of Nokia E71 ????

                                    I have a E71 , is it worth changing it with a BlackBerry Curve 8520 ??

No 3G isn't truely a bother for those who just want the Blackberry experience for cheap, the lack of 3G was intended by Blackberry to create a new product using the optical trackpad and to include a new line of GPRS / EDGE range which will be upgradable to the new BOS 5.0. If you want 3G, wait until the next model, else, this phone isn't that bad at all even if it doesn't have all the features other phones include. If you want a good camera then go buy a digital camera, not that hard.
