A new software upgrade is available for the BlackBerry Storm. The software upgrade can be downloaded from the Vodafone website and will deliver a number of improvements to the microphone, display, media and video.

I have to admit it has taken a little time to get used to but now that it has been 3 weeks I am getting used to it and operating it is becoming second nature!

I work for an Ad Agency that uses an enterprise server, we purchased 25 of these phones and they completely did not work, lots of glitches and OS issues. This phone is a JOKE!. We got the bold with at&t and worked perfectly.

the storm isd useless i work fort a phone company we sold 12 of tyhem and 8 actually returned them due to software problems and the bottom of the left hand side the button on the phone keeps faalin of i say wat a hunk of junk

I have personally had this phone for some weeks now (Australian version, if there's a difference). I admit, I was and still am a huge Nokia fan, due to my good run with their products but I have been encouraged by a work colleague to try it out. I started with the Bold and I liked it, the keypad was smaller than what I was used to, but you adapt. I kept running into software faults though. This was unimpressive to say the least.
Alas, I was offered the 'downgrade' to a Storm. I personally hate (still do in a way) touch phones. My experiences with friends touch phones were never exceptional, but the Storm appealed due to the plan and its features. I haven't had it fault yet, and it's keys are easier to use then the Bold, but its unusal approach ('l' and 'm' are on their lonesome? Visually awkward..) It has an intuitive UI and appears to sync well with my applications.
I do have only a few problems with its design.
1/ The Clicking screen is not as responsive in the corners and the edges on the top and bottom.
2/ It would be nice to have the option of when you select a button to press, that you don't have to press down on the screen (long exposure to this does get irritating)
3/ The battery life doesn't seem to last as long as initially expected. Then again, neither did my N82.
4/ The accelerometer is not very good. It seems to activate undesirably, and takes some effort to get the screen to re-orientate vertically again. I've discovered that violently shaking it doesn't fix it, so I strongly discourage this behaviour...
Overall, a very efficient handset that has surprised me. I like the speed of it, the sound, the crystal clear colours and menus. RIM have created an excellent alternative to conventional touchscreen smartphones that are available on the market. And yes, that does include the iPhone. I still to this day refuse to use Apple's iTunes application.

Definitley the worst phone on the market, even the N96 is better than this crap... I had both of these and i got rid of them, now i am the proud owner of an iPhone and i absolutley love it

Chris. I use my storm quite heavily and will kill the battery in 2 days. I have gotten used to charging it every day as it has a really cool bedside feature. Battery life is largely dependent on your network coverage and in weak signal areas the phone works harder to connect. 3G is also harder on the battery than Gsm but well worth it due to the much better browsing speeds. Handwritting recognition is a no no as the screen uses capasitive technology and not resistive. To out it simply it recognises the electricity in your skin like the i-phone. Other phones like those from HTC use resitive srcreens that recognise pressure placed upon the by a finger or stylus. Handwritting recognition would be to difficult to achieve without useing a lot of processor power with a fat finger. Try your finger on a regular resitive touchscreen and you will see how hard it is for the software to accutatly translate your finger movements. Hope this helps

This phone was always going to be controversial. Its a big departure from Blackberry's core USP's and let's face us Blackberry fan boys have spent 2 years putting down touch screens and virtual keyboards. I have had my storm for a week and I am rather pleased with it. Its not as good to type on as my Bold but the Bold was not as good as my curve. But at last I have all the core benefits of a BB without that niggling feeling that my phone makes me look like a "suit". Its not an I phone I don't think it really wants to be! If you look at the current slew of touch screens from HTC and Samsung the storm is the only one trying to break new ground with the "Sure Press" clicky screen. Oh boy it does take getting used to, but then so did writing in that wonderful Palm handwriting recognition style that I still do to this day when I pick up a pen! Give the storm time to mature and I am sure it will be loved almost as much as the apple wonder. For those of I phone fan boys please feel free to record your comments on video and post to You Tube!!! Wanna borrow a video cam????

First let me say I have been a blackberry users for years having a number of different devices.
I have had 2 BB Storm devices now and the third is on the way this morning.
It could be a good device but at the moment I would stay clear of it.
The first device had a problem where I could not unlock the phone once the automatic key lock had been enabled. The problem stopped me from pressing one of the keys in my password. The only way to solve the problem was to pull the battery and then the problem went away fro a couple of hours.
The second one despite it having the new version of software had a number of faults
1. Very slow at typing, 30 seconds after you typed the word it appeared on the display
2. Battery life 4 hours without use and it was flat
3. Display issues where only half the display was available to see the text. The bottom half was just white
4. Take it out of the holsetr and after 3 minutes the timer was still on the display
5. Poor audio quality. I swopped back to a nokia E65 as a phone due to the BB being unusable (see 4 & 2 above) and remebered how good Nokia's are for audio quality. The BB is not in the same league its like going from a badly scratched record to a good quality CD
If this is an Iphone killer I suggest it swallowed the poision instead of giving it to an iphone.

Idea: 9/10
Interface: 9/10
Software: -10/10
This phone will be good, it will be common and it does have some very useful features, but at the moment I would wait until the Software problems are resolved and dont be a Alpha tester yourself.

not a fanatic, i played with all the high end touchscreens, not a fan of touch and push to click screen. Just my 2 cents

This phone is rubbish in my opinion. I have used and bought all blackberries. The touch screen is very hard to press. The keys are too small, applications crash a lot. Contacts crash when you are trying to retrieve a contact. Very difficult to use. The best features are camera and video quality that's it!!. I am back to old blackberries not using storm or bold any more.

i have met very satisfied blackberry users. in fact rim is a very highly respected and i have no doubt that the storm shall give the iphone a run for its money. also with the acclerometer it should be a breeze to operate .looking forward to its launch in india at a affordable price.
