I tried other FLIR equiped phones after I sold my buggy CATS61. Only issue I had was when I upgraded to PIE the PRox. sensor quite working. I even sent it in without any problem and CAT replaced an antenna(?). Of course, that didn't fix the issue so I sold it. Only to bite the bullet I got another because I really liked the phone for work. So far it is working like a champ and is even on the latest software rev. I have not had the "Toolbox" bug come up on this device but even if it does I know how to correct that. Crossing my fingers it stays like this and I will not update anything from this point to risk functionality issues. Im also using Fluid Navigation along with the native Nav keys. This gives even more options for customizations.

Patrick, 04 Sep 2020When i make a phone call, my screen goes black on my CAT S6... moreDo not waste your money on a CAT phone. They have lots of bugs to work out. Several apps are not compatible. Phone is very heavy. Several techs have never heard of these phones. And they are not nearly as rugged as they portray them to be as advertised. Garbage!

It is very strange to read such issues, my phone does noy have them. Maybe newer versions are different...
Also after update 1.027 phone seems to be faster.
Included qc3 charger was Lucent trans 18W charger, which does not seem basic.
Yes, on/off button started working a little worse and laser is a gimmick. Otherwise no big issues.

I mistakenly updated the phone and it's from frying pan to fire!

You should have replied to my comment. We are here to share experiences and possible solutions. Nobody is paid here.
This suggestion was from CAT customer care through e-mail.
It worked for me so I share it here.
But I received an update today and I updated the phone. From frying pan to fire! My phone goes off (even @ 80% battery) anytime I want to make call.
CAT S61 is indeed the most expensive garbage ever.

My complete experience with CAT S61:
Got the phone less than 2 weeks ago, like others I thought it would be a perfect tool for my electrician job on terrain. I'm not a big phone user but I work in hardware-oriented environments so I thought I needed something more resisting.
First of all, I instantly fell in LOVE with the simple and rugged design as I'm dome with traditional breakable shiny whiny plastic expensive easy-to-fall phones.
But right after unboxing I noted something odd: the charger is generic and don't looks like something for a $800 rugged equipment, and it doesn't include any headset.
After turning it on it worked some like buggy on Android 8 so I got upgraded to Android Pie with the 1.027.01 August 2020 update, put my SIM card in and downloaded just my basic app backups from the cloud without any issue.
So, after 2 or 3 days of some really neat working time with the MyFlir camera app I noted that both laser-distance and air quality sensors are really imprecise and had to be calibrated every time so I left the laser to play with my dog and turned off the Air sensor for good. Tested the waterproof feature and it did work perfectly.
Normal and selfie cameras meet all my needs and have very decent color resolutions, the selective button is really good for fast lantern use and everything in physical design here should be copied by other brands as this is really an easy-to-use beautiful phone.
But there are 2 major issues why I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PHONE:
1. Battery discharging very fast and charging strangely:
Phone comes with fast-charging feature but after testing it with a professional USB tester it doesn't go more than 900mA 3.6V up and stops charging very fast at 100%. With a slow charging 5V 2A generic charger I got 1400mA of charge and the phone kept charging like 3-4 hours.
With fast-charging the battery gone from 100% to 80% in just an hour and then lasted just 10 hours to go blank. With slow charging it discharged in a linear way and lasted 27 hours, both tests with minimal app use.
Sometimes with fast-charging my phone gone 0% and then after a hard button reset it gone back to 90%.
Battery Saver feature is really childish basic and didn't make any big difference.
Auto-management did something good but not really much.
2. Large variety of annoying Software issues (really? CAT?):
OS is really not optimized and shitty, I had a lot of laughable basic Android bugs I found in phones 10 years ago like:
-WI-FI going down and working erratically everytime
-alarms don't ringing at time
-in-calls crashing the phone
-phone not ringing spite having it at full ring volume
-microphone fails
-antenna failing to catch normal types of signals
-vibrating system constantly failing
-phone crashing at video playing
-random system resets
-several Android config options missing
-had to limit background process to max 4 due to annoying slow performance
-RAM getting overwhelmed with basic apps
-I'm sure I'm missing some more little bugs I encountered here and there.
And all that with just weeks of use.. It really is an State-of-the-Art equipment which Design idea I really love, but software speaking, I wouldn't have paid $100 for it.
I don't know if Bullitt Group is really hiring professional staff or just some geek 6th school grade kids to do all the programming..
So by my judgement, and with tears in my eyes, I recommend NOT BUYING THIS PHONE. I'm putting some more bucks and migrating to a One Plus 8 Pro, I hope it's programmed by adults.

Best phone I've ever owned. Due to my work I've never had an unbroken screen within a month on any other phone than this. The s61 still had a perfect screen after 22 months. Then, when the button started to get a bit unresponsive they honoured the 2 year guarantee and gave me a new one. The thermal camera has saved time and money as a heating engineer and showing clients their underfloor heating warming up has been a godsend. To sum up, great phone and great customer service.

I have the Cat S61. Upgraded to Android 9 no problem. Had some battery problems where the phone die in about 2 hours, not even being used.
I found a fix for when the battery is not holding it's charge so here it is and it works. There is no need to backup your data.
Battery charge very slow and discharge very quickly.
The battery percentage may be 100% and drop to 80% within 10 minutes even when the phone is idle.
If you are experiencing this problem, follow these steps to resolve it:
* Remove the sim tray and press the reset button (a tiny button that can only be pressed by a pin) for 5 seconds to reset the phone. The phone will go off. Turn ON the phone after 3 minutes.
* Update the android version and Google play store app. (No need if already did).
* Turn off the WiFi and Bluetooth.
* Turn ON aeroplane/flight mode
* Press *#*#228#*#* from the phone/call dialer to see your battery resistance.
That's all.
Enjoy your battery!

When i make a phone call, my screen goes black on my CAT S61. Which means i can not hang up or even press the keypad, when prompted by certain calls. The only way to get around this is to put my head phones into the phone and it starts working again. Is my proximity sensor broken? My phone is like 2 months old...

Billed and sold as an industrial quality phone with industrial quality support, so far the CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN UTTERLY HOPELESS.....
Dropped in water two weeks ago and cleaned as shown in the video, now neither speaker is working! Currently I am working on multi million pound project in Singapore so really need to hear when people ring me but cannot! This CAT S61 phone is sold all around the world, but when I asked (Cat UK) for support they told me they do not sell this in Singapore so cannot help me, what an utterly miserable response to a customer (me) on a high profile project who's use of this phone in his field (Offshore Industry) has led to literally dozens of people purchasing it!
SHAME on you Caterpillar ….. and to think I was considering the S62. I will of course update and review again if they (Caterpillar UK) ever do manage to pull their fingers out and support me properly as they should every single loyal and valuable customer who spends £850 on a mediocre phone with the perception of industrial scale reliability and support!

I am very disappointed with the constant charging problems, as well as super fast discharge problems (less than an hour, sometimes a few minutes) since I bought the device.
I have already contacted the support and they only say to do a factory reset.
There is no point in having a sturdy and discharged cell phone, unless to be used it as a brick and thrown in someone's head
