Dimensity 8000 AnTuTu result surfaces, threatens the Snapdragon 888

The Dimensity 9000 caused a lot of buzz when it powered the first Android to above 1 million points in AnTuTu. However, while several makers are lined up to launch the first phones with this chip, rumor has it that it is pricey. This could leave the door opened for the Dimensity 8000 to become the true value for money king, the first AnTuTu scores look promising.

The results, shared by Digital Chat Station, show a score of around 820,000 (in version V9.0.7-OB). Looking at the AnTuTu charts, Snapdragon 888 powered phones fall in the 880,000 to 750,000 range, depending on RAM, storage and other factors. This means that the new Dimensity will be fairly competitive.

It is a 5 nm chip, so it is comparable to last year’s Snapdragon. According to DCS, it will feature four Cortex-A78 cores (2.75 GHz) and four A55s, plus a new Mali-G510 GPU. However, the 888 may not be MediaTek’s actual target.

The leakster suggests that the Dimensity 8000 go after the older Snapdragon 870 (7 nm, 735,000-700,000 points). The 888 will be challenged by a Dimensity 8100 (coming in March), which will offer higher clock speeds. That leaves the 8 Gen 1 for the Dimensity 9000 to deal with.

Let’s go back to the 8000 chip and look at its GPU – we haven’t seen much of ARM’s new GPU architecture. The Mali-G510 was advertised as twice as fast and 22% more energy efficient than “older designs”.

It’s not quite clear which older GPU this refers to, but the score of 315,000 is fairly impressive. For comparison, the new Adreno 660 in the Snapdragon 888 and 888+ scores in the 325,000 to 300,000 range, the GPU in the older 870 chip scores in the vicinity of 250,000 points. Qualcomm has some serious competition on its hands.

The Dimensity 8000 will be a better choice compared to the Snapdragon 888 in the area of performance as well as price.

Now I want dimensity 9000 plus or 9100, with 2 more GPU cores g710 mc12, to destroy 8 gen 1 plus.

For middle range, but high end, it is a different story, they have almost no experience for that. We talk about a SD888 (high end) contender here, not a middle range contender. Different thermal output, optimizations, current draw, size, GPU, etc...
