Anonymous, 04 Sep 2023At this price it should have been QCS8550. Unfairphone buye... moreengineers making those security and OS updates are not cheap. I have very little interest on switching my phones every two to three years. They simply offer me to keep same phone and not spend my time on transferring my MFA apps to new phone. Both Apple and Fairphone are offering that to market and people who value their time and have no reason to buy more powerful phone are willing to pay for that privilege.

Also, you wouldn't believe how many old folks curse android manufacturers for forcing them to switch to new phone as often as they do. Im not sure how many of them are willing to spend twice as much, but my guess is that enough for them to make this profitable business.

Obviously it is not product for gamers, but for those people who use smartphones for less demanding tasks. I for one am still using oneplus 6t, and only forced to change because it has been year since it received security updates.

You can't compare this device with a device in the same price range and wondering why the specs are not up to par, completely forgetting the fact that labor costs and source winning costs made to produce this phone are double or triple of that of any other phone.

FP3 is on 13 currently, FP4 is on 12 at the moment.

The important thing is they are prompt with the security updates. Both are on the August 2023 security patch levels.

With how stagnant Android has become, the major versions are not that important (to me at least). On the other hand it would be nice if they had a defined update roadmap for the first 5 years at least (the warranty period). They really should be more transparent with this info, especially when one of their main selling points is long-term software support.

They say they are planning at least 5 Android versions for the FP5, but there's no confirmation.

This is a decent phone and what is more important really, really sustainable. I like the concept and that, every part of the phone -even the screen itself- can be user replaced only by a screw driver. But I have some consideration. First of the usage of amoled screen. Yeah it is fashionable and trendy, but amoled screens are prone to constant burn ins in a relatively short period of time (only jus a year). The other is the promised software support, which really convinceable, but as I know fairphone 4 with the same promise still stucks on android 11. In my point of view a long term software support does not mean that, the phone will receive the actual android version after 5 years of its release. It means a continous support, what samsung does with my xcover 6 pro.
My verdict is that: it is a good handy, with decent and, what is more important, user replacable hardware elements. The concept is good, and I think it should be the future. But despite of these impressive features, I do not plan to replace my xcover 6 pro, which also has a user replacable battery and good software support. I think fairphone really needs to strengthten its software department if they want to be real pioneers of a sustainable future.

Sad but the vast majority of the world is like this person. It is what it is and that's why such people would never buy a Fairphone, but it's also why so many dedicated and people with awareness buy exactly a fairphone. A fairphone user would never buy a disposable cheap phone.

It's a great price and if u know about phone repairing you can buy parts for 430€+shipping, so I think I will buy parts and make it miself. About charger, I still have Xiaomi 33W adapter from Mi 10t back in the day so no problem, warranty will not be 5 years but I don't care.

You are not really right here. I as of now am a china phone user and all i can say is my xiaomi phone has lasted me 3 whole years with little to no issues compared to other bigger brand phones i've had. It is fast enough, cheap enough and has the best in class processor from 2020. Also i don't think all the manufacturing of this phone has strictly been in europe. All the phone parts come from either one or two places - china or india.
