I bought the Pixel solely for timely and reliable updates back in 2019. But what's the point if they don't fix anything (and in most cases, breaks more things instead). The Camera app is probably the most notable now. Pixels are (were) known for them. But since late 2020 their app updates have started causing instability. We're now a year on and no fix in sight. And there's also the Dialer, Recorder, Play Music (updated to be useless and nag you to get Youtube Music), At A Glance (weather reporting remains broken since day one) etc etc... Google's Pixel Reddit page are chocka with these issues and more.

Which brings me to my next point. All these features, and updates. I don't need them, and chances are you won't either. That is, if it ain't broke, don't fix them. We as humanity have gotten so caught up and fixated on the latest and greatest, and this is driving unsustainable consumerism, waste, and global warming etc...

I've just gotten my old Galaxy S6 128GB out of retirement and getting it to update Play Services now. I don't visit dodgy sites, and in all honesty my S6 (which is on Nougat) still outperforms my 3a in everything except night photography. I just need the phone to take quick photos, play music, and browse the web. Reliably. Nothing more, nothing less. And unfortunately Google's Pixel has failed in that respect.

Absolutely disheartening for a phone designed in-house to fail at the very issue I bought it for (ie good solid updates). The 'give them time' excuse is invalid, because the Pixel was designed in-house - Google of all companies should be getting this right first-time, every time. Which tells me that their hardware / services aren't the end-product, but you (the user) are. You are being used by them to test / garner opinions (heck they make money off you with advertising). And I didn't pay good money to do that. I paid money to use something reliably. And unfortunately all companies are doing that nowadays (cough Windows 10 and 11 cough).

The adage 'they don't make them like they used to' rings true in today's gadget sector. Things were made to last a long time only two decades ago. But now it's just planned obsolescence and money. There. Rant over.

Shahbaz Haider21, 12 Dec 2021I just bought pixel 3a ans its on android 9 and the battery... moreas others said, that if you update to 12 maybe you will face bluetooth connectivity issue abd some bugs because android 12 still new to pixel 3a, also possible that maybe you will feel it's not as smooth as android 9, but you will get a lot of you features ex built in screen recorder, new interface, for privacy you will have notification if camera or microfon running in the background. so it's based on you and your priority. for me, since I'm not using wireless headset and it is just for my secondary phone then I'm okay so far to use android 12 on my pixel.

one of the worst phones i've ever owned. for a stock android phone it's supposed to be relatively bug free, but that's not the case. camera crashes a lot. badly built, cheap materials (internal screen damage from one small fall), usb connection issues, and more.
        google should stop making phones.

for the buggy issue, I think I didn't experience the same thing. so I can't give any advice. maybe other people here can help you.
for me the experience is good, smooth.
Bluetooth unstable connection issue is the only issue i faced

Ella, 09 Dec 2021Anyone else annoyed with the new software updates in Google... moreya now it's one step longer, right? it's annoying but it's OK, I can go with it, still not a big deal for me 😂

i suggest to keep the wifi and cellular ON continuously so you don't need to turn on and off frequently if it's bother you, it's not consuming that much battery considering this pixel 3a have very good battery life

Anyone else annoyed with the new software updates in Google pixel 3a?

Before, if I wanted my Wifi or Mobile data turned on, I would just swipe down and activate each separately from one touch
After the update, I swipe down, press the internet icon, it opens another window with both wifi and mobile data and I have to activate each from there instead .....
I miss the faster more accessible way, haha!

Anyone else having issues with Android 12 with the 3a? Well, the issues thus far are manageable, but the experience generally has become more buggy and frustrating. They weren't issues with 11 and 10..

Multi-tasking (moving between apps) is visually broken and sometimes laggy, the swipe-down toggles also visually break half the time, phone sometimes doesn't emit notification sounds (despite it not being on silent), and 90% of the time when I connect to a bluetooth handsfree, it doesn't use that for audio or calls (it goes to the phone speaker / microphone, despite it being told to use the connected device), and I need to resort to wired units.

I've posed the query on Google's reddit and there seems to be people with similar issues (well, bits and bobs, no one I've seen yet have all the issues I have). And in typical Google fashion, no official responses and hence no updates to fix.

Minimal apps (getting by with the built-in apps from Google), so I'm sure it's not an app causing issues. I restart my phone daily. The only thing I haven't done is a full reset but I'm really not keen on (given minimal apps I doubt it will fix my problem anyway).

I'm super confuse. Can this phone be a dual SIM phone like Samsung or any other brand phone with eSIM & physical active? People are confusing standby with active SIMs and their answers confuse me further. Can I use a physical SIM and a eSIM and receive calls on any SIM and call from any SIM (one at a time of course) ?

Thank you so much for giving your experience. i updated mine right after reading your comment, and everything is correct just like what you said. It keeps running smooth, no issue. Camera n battery great.

I do agree with your last point about switching cellular on/off, but it's okay, no serious issue.

So thanks a lot bro. So happy with android 12 on my pixel 3a 🎉🎊

I updated my pixel 3a to android 12, 3 days back and I feel it's really worth it. Especially for following features:
                                  1. Privacy dashboard and dot on notification bar for apps using camera and mic
                                  2. Master switch to block camera and mic access
                                  3. Changing the menu contrasts according wallpaper
                                  4. 22% more efficient for core system services: This makes device faster and a snappy UI
                                  5. Wonderful widgets
                                  6. Battery performance has increased significantly.
Only thing that is irritating is switching the data toggle is two steps process now. Like click on internet and toggle mobile data or WiFi. Overall I think its good to go.
                                  Regards,
                                  Vishwas Navada B

Anonymous, 25 Oct 2021pixel 3a is awesome, and with android 12 its much betterhi. i just wanna ask about your experience regarding android 12. is it worth to update? currently I'm still in android 9, running flawlessly. my concern is on the performance (overall smoothness), battery, and camera. how is your experience regarding that 3 aspects? if it is okay, then I'll update.

                                    thanks in advance

It's really a nice phone with the right performance and price, but the durability of the screen is very disappointing. I've read in someone else's comment that the glass breaks like potato chips. Sadly that's true.
