I just tested it using a small magnet, and ice cream scoop (aluminum) and a steel butter knife. I must admit, until I thought about it, I was concerned about aluminum blocking magnetic fields myself.

not everyone wants latest specs and a mini tv in the pocket. was waiting for expiria 5II to be a proper compact, but was so dissapointed to find out otherwise. all i need is a good screen, fast and reliable software without bloatware, a good camera when i need it, and a size that actually fits in my pocket. i really don't need a fingerprint scanner (i always use a pin), but if there is one, the backside is the best location for it.
sure, it is a bit expensive, but other than that, is the phone i wanted. and considering that i preordered it, i get a bose headset 230 -280£ worth. that brings it to around 400£. not that expensive anymore

I can totally agree on the price. for 699 dollar or currently 613 Euro in germany for the given specs, it is indeed overpriced. But like mentioned before, if you pre-order the phone right now at least here in germany, you get a pair of Bose QS35 II, which are roughly 200-250 euros. They are pretty good, if you want to keep them or sell them, is up to you.
By selling them simply, the price of the phone goes down to 400 Euro, which is in competition to the Oneplus Nord.
What you get for that mentioned 400 Euro, is not a useless glass sandwich, rather a full aluminium bodied phone, which these days is rare to get at all, paired with a the highest midrange chipset with 5G, if you care for that, a 6"inch 90Hz display, which is pretty much welcome against much bigger displays for many people, no moving parts, a simple no bullshit camera setup with decent sensors and enough RAM.
Yes, i wished for a 2nd option for a 256GB storage capacity and maybe a microSD slot and that they keep the jack from the cheaper version, but overall it is a simple phone with all necessary feature nowadays and a clean software experience.
Heck even with the full alu body, you still get wireless charging, which is much appreciated.
And while all the flagships put in under display fingerprint, a good 'oldschool' fingerprint sensor on the back is faster and more reliable still.
What you get overall, is a durable, smaller phone, while maintaining a rather big battery for the size, wireless charging, 90Hz refresh rate, simple software experience with 3 years of software updates and a simple design on the outside.
Some simply prefer this over a oneplus or the older pixel phones with kinda useless features like soli.
Just not for 600-700, that's the only point i can agree on. Everyone able to get the device as pre-order with the bose headphones should go for it, if you are interested.

you have an expensive midrange rubbish, take the oneplus 7 pro, an older phone, selling for 549$ CAD, which translates to roughly 400$ USD, with no punchhole camera, an onscreen fingerprint reader with more cameras and storage and resolution and screen size, save 300$ and let idiots play fetch the dog with this useless overpriced pixel 5, can't believe people gets excited for that useless phone, stupidity is really a common illness these days
the pixel 3 @ 349$ brand new (on amazon) is a better buy, with half the price at least you beat the crap out of this midtier rubbish snapdragon on the pixel 5

I do feel that this phone lost in all departments, against other giants like Samsung and upcoming apple. IPhone 12 mini, will be probably cheaper and with better specs, not mentioning it`s iOS, and even smaller size. Samsung S20 FE 5g wins in other categories like specs and it`s a bigger phone with no caveats. The only thing that google pixel is better than others is their camera software. Pixel 5 fixed some things from pixel 4 lineup, but screwed up other things, Google haven`t improved at all.
