magnaroader, 02 Aug 2023This is the most "I dont have the phone, but here'... moreNo I had the phone for a few weeks. I sent it back months ago.
I don't realized I gave my opinion already
Bad gui is bad gui :). More seriously. I Don't recall all annoyances bugs and werdies, e.g. contacts line text where overlapped ( two lines written on each other), list appeared almost off screen ( I mean very low on screen where it's not practical to touch or do anything), dialer wrongly added country prefixes. Just a few I remind, on a very basic dialer and contact feature.
I remind was not configurable either but not all details. And lots of non desactiavle "features" which in fact are more spyware/dark patterns ( android ad service, android intelligence, tons of useless or redondant gapps to my use...)
Outdated camera sensor . I read later confirm my thoughts. tensor so called IA cannot make miracle, i wouldn't believe that. At least the result to me were not good, too sharp, faded colors, 2d like. And, tensor drains battery too much, battery not good at all.
It looks like unfinished and cutout features in OS for some reasons like lack of knowledge, lack of good s.e or p.m., budget... Or just don't mind their users.
I don't game btw.
Relatively cheap phone,if it suits you, fine, it works, but the bar is too low on pixels phone to me, even at that price.

The praised camera, well, I found the results too edgy, too sharp. Pictures are like it's 2d, unnatural, with flat faded colors, to my taste.
Also OS has many annoying bugs, from agenda to phone dialer, with strange gui logic, and spyware ( lot of them...). Non configurable or even desactivable.
Design is personal taste too. I don't like it at all with that very big glossy camera bar.
Screen is less than average, compared to mid range Samsung or honor.
Then, tensors drain battery like by really a lot.
I would have loved to like pixels. In the end, they put the bar very low in too many aspect. It's just for the brand name, certainly.

6a is one of the worst phones I have had in recent years, it's so slow to charge, it heats up like crazy especially when video calling. Tensor 1 is a really hot chip unfortunately. Phone throttles when hot. Battery life is not good at all. I should have waited and bought the Poco F5 which is what I originally wanted. I bought the 6a for the long software support but I can't imagine keeping this for years to take advantage of that. I'm going to sell this soon and get the Poco F5. Only good thing about the 6a is the camera, I'll give it that much but that's it.

Bought this phone a month ago in Hongkong at hkd.1900 equivalent to usd.243. Model: GX7AS (Brand New)
Cons:
Network is sometimes sluggish
Front cam is not upto the par
Speaker not so bassy
Volume up/down and power down is hard and feels cheap
Pro's:
Good size
Good rear camera
Camera style looks amazing
Software always keeps updating
Overall, my phone do not heat like up how other peoples mentioned. Finger unlock works perfect. I use gps most of the time and the battery stills last me all the day. I used s20 before, i still miss the one ui. Hope, i will get better in time with my software experience with this pixel 6A.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2023Would you recommend 6aActually it depends on where you are and how much you are getting one for.
Where I am, it's literally 30% cheaper than Samsung's A5X series. So the 6a is a no-brainer purchase - it's simply better by all means and a steal at it's current price.
Also the fact that it still has OS support and security patches for a couple more years means it's like getting a cheaper flagship.
Performance is still king and I often find myself using the Pixel 6a over my higher priced Galaxy phones.

My take. I was only gonna use this as an interim phone until I could a find another S20 (I like pocketable phones) in great condition. After 2 months, I must say I am quite impressed by it. No one should let the A label or the "budget " buzzword discourage them. Unlike Samsung, Google's A's have the same processor as their more feature rich on paper bigger brothers. Charging is a little slow. I don't game so I can't speak to that. It's snappy. Been running 14 beta for about a month now with few hiccups. I have Lawnchair launcher installed because it is essentially Pixel launcher with more customizability. I must admit I was an LG fanboy. When they left the game I was heartbroken. Sammy breaks phones via update when they don't want you to enjoy them anymore. I'm just glad there is a viable alternative for people who don't want to spend a thousand bucks on a phone. PS. Samsung is really the default Google phone!

It is good enough, but Google's postprocessing and Samsung's higher quality optics are noticeably/significantly better. Also, nothing tuned the camera for the first 5-6 months after release, when it got much better. Still, it is an inferior phone for capturing photos.
Nothing's main issue is sw support. Pixel and Samsung will still have security updates for 4+ years if buying today, but nothing is promising 2-3.

Booby , 15 Jun 202360hz doesn't make any phone feel sluggish. However, if... moreFrame dips are often much worse than low refresh rate. I feel if the 6a can do a locked 60, it would be much better than some phones which can onscreen render to 120hz(so something powerful), but has like really low 1% lows(30-40 fps for a few seconds). I haven't tested this yet, but it would be interesting to see if the 6a can stay locked at 60 for more intensive titles at something reasonable(1080p medium perhaps?)

Critical reviews for the google pixel 6a are exaggerated, the performance is related to the price.

magnaroader, 02 Aug 2023Oddly enough I live in the Middle east where the climate is... morePossibly, the games you play don't support higher refresh rates, so you can't see any difference. Screen dimming comes even before the hard processor throttling, let's say at the first step. Weird I'm the only one reporting that, it's definitely temperature based, I have validated that. Regarding why you have experienced no throttling, maybe the games you play are well optimized. The pixel 6a uses a powerful processor after all.
