Samsung actually sells 1000x more phones than Google can ever muster even if you include all the 'vanilla android' inspired Nexus, Android One and Google Play edition devices of yesteryears, and yes, even if you include the projected sales from ALL PIXEL DEVICES combined up to the unreleased Pixel 8 devices. So if there's a vastly ersatz software experience, it's certainly not Samsung from the standpoint of millions of Android phone users - especially when talking about Samsung flagship phones, but the Pixels. Don't get me wrong, I like the smoothness of Pixel phones and the Pixel launcher itself and the excellent low light camera performance that no Samsung flagship can beat, but that's about it. In terms of software capabilities, flexibility and sheer versatility, the difference is NIGHT and DAY. And I'm not talking about the hardware yet. If you love Iphones, you might like the Pixel's iPhone envy inspired interface - that annoying white/gray gesture bar that's wasting space that you can never get rid off, that combined wifi/mobile data toggle that's just horrendous, the lack of VoLTE/5G support worldwide, the lack of miracast and wireless desktop mode, the measly 3 year software update support, etc. etc. I could go on and cite 10 more annoying things or many nifty things Pixels can't do that even a cheap, midrange Samsung OneUI phone does very well.

A cheap second-rate software package. I do think the Samsung hardware is superior to any thing Google has, but no vendor has the Pixel experience that one enjoys using Pixel.

The Pixel software experience is INFERIOR to Samsung's OneUI experience. I should know. I own both Android One and Pixel phones as well as Samsung phones on OneUI.

Google has packed it with amazing features. It is a very easy Launcher/GUI due to the fact it has very intuitive demo videos.

Landauzus, 17 May 2023Surprisingly, I am somewhat disappointed with my new Pixel ... moreYou just need to learn a few things on how to handle differences between android manufacturer's implementations of the Android OS as each manufacturer has its own quirks. As for your issues and the suggested solutions, see below:
#1: You can change the phone USB C to PC connection default behavior in developer options - 'Default USB configuration'. Set it to 'transferring files' if you want it to default to 'file transfer mode' everytime a type C cable is attached to your Pixel.

                    # 2. USB- C headphones will work with Pixel phones. Check if the phone case prevents proper connection/contact of the type C headphones with the Pixel's USB port. Try removing the case, restart the phone, and plug in another type C headphone just to rule out if it's the headphone. If the problem persists, check if there is a pending software update on the Pixel. After update, try again. If still doesn't work, try changing the USB settings in #1. If problem still persists, or is 'sporadic' (sometimes OK, sometimes NOT), you may have a loose or defective type C port.

#3. and 4. These are non-issues if you know your way around customization. Download a custom launcher like Nova launcher and you can change icon shapes, sizes, widget placements, grids, gesture shortcuts etc. to whatever layout or appearance you like.

Anonymous, 17 May 2023I have had my Pixel 7 pro 512GB for 2 months now. It is the... moreWell, I beg to disagree with you, having both owned Samsung and Pixel phones. OneUI is actually superior to Pixel's 'vanilla android' experience. There are at least 7 features OneUI has that Google's vanilla android can never do. And they are serious advantages OneUI has over the Pixel launcher. As for camera performance though, the Pixel is just superior, no doubt about that, especially as regards low light performance. If I were to rate the low light camera performance of these 3 phones: Samsung S23 Ultra, Pixel 7 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1 as the lowest and 10 as the highest, the Pixel would be a 9, the Samsung a 7, and the iPhone, a 5.

Surprisingly, I am somewhat disappointed with my new Pixel Pro, as some of the features which I expect to be to the same useability standard of ALL my previous Android phones are not there. 1. If I plug it into my PC using an USB Cable, I am used to seeing an instant pop-up message on the phone asking what function should be used (Charging, photos files). Not so with the Pixel. Each time, I have manually to go to settings - USB- and then set the function which I want. This is not saved, and has to be done each time. 2. My USB- C headphones simply do not work with the Pixel, even though the cable-connected headphone option is selected. The Pixel makes an short sound when the headphones is first connected, but that is all. 3. Even if the Google search bar is to say the least useful, it is fixed at the bottom of the screen and I can not decide myself where to position it. 4. No more Squircle-shaped icons.

I have had my Pixel 7 pro 512GB for 2 months now. It is the best Android phone I have ever had, coming from Samsung Galaxy flagships and iPhone. The best Android phone ever would be a Samsung S23 Ultra with no OneUI and Android OS schedule matching the latest Pixel flagship (which will never happen). OneUI is sooo bad, I will NEVER own another Samsung ever again. OneUI is a step up from Commodore 64K OS. It also reduplicates every app from Google. Sad.
I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB (superb phone) and I prefer the Pixel 7 Pro for most situations, esp photography.
The battery life and charging completely sucks and I hope the 8 pro has flat glass like the iPhone. My iPhone is my backup for the horrible Pixel 7 Pro battery life.

Lots of unscrupulous sellers online are selling refurbished and returned used Pixels as 'brand new'. It's not limited to Pixels. Refurbished iPhones sold as 'brand new' are also giving unwary buyers the same problems (actually worse) because even a fully functional iPhone is already worse in itself with so much limitations imposed by Apple's walled garden.

The only purpose of a flat or curved screen is aesthetics, and google have chosen this route. They have camera technology in this phone that smokes the competition whilst saving $400.
