    I had a Samsung S8 and Note 10, which had higher endurance ratings than this Pixel 8 (84 and 92, respectively), yet they had a mediocre battery life, so the battery life of this Pixel would probably make it unacceptable/unusable for most.

      omg that endurance rating, i was pumped for this phone because I thought it would have a good battery life with how much juice its packing. real shame.

        Shitty battery life for a battery size this big.
        There are two things this is good at: AI and being bad at the chipset.

            Pixel 8 stays 12 hours by me maximum even with all optimization
            1- adaptive brightness
            2- adaptive battery
            3- always on display off
            over the night fully recharged, leave it without usage in the morning I see battery was reduced to 81% .. 19% in idle.
            Mobile Network is eating the battery.
            I feel sad to return my phone because maximum I can get 12 hours on a single charge

              But i really dont care.
              At least i am not bothered by updating every day or week like Samsuung users.
              Main reason i like stock android.
              Noone forces you to always update something also your phone does not notify you with non stop signals asking this app got new coat or this UI just got this etc. Plus samsung App gallery. On one hand is good that samsung cares ion the other hand know many people who dont like to frequently use their expensive data for updating something. And most free wifi in Shopping malls etc is painfully slow. At least here in Slovakia.
              But still a lot better than Abu Dhabi airport at Ethiopia. Took me 4 hours to send single photo.

              So about updates i got just one yet. About bug fixes havent any. Moto Edge 40 pro is definitely great device but ths is first and last time i bought phone regardless of brand with a curved screen for gaming. is the worst experience i ever had.

              I am always fan of stock android because simple things and simplicity is my forte.
              Really cant understand people who like the UI with millions of apps which are already there from google and usually better. But is their choice. Like for you or anybody else most f said app whether is samsung brownser MIUI brownser and many else you are free to download from google play. Stock android been my forte for a very long time.
              Easy reason or to explain my self like any human feels great without any exessive fat or weight same stands for phone. Phone with stock android is like Human with 60-80 kilos with lots of stamina for everything. Most UIs is like 120-160 kilos on a human which is not very healthy and also will have not much stamina left for daily things.
              If you run all apps on backround on stock android it will be like 40-60 apps compared to most Uis with 120-160 apps running on backround eating your ram, disk space, CPU and GPU performance. Stock android with just 4-6GB ram feels like Xiaomi or Samsung with 8 or 12GB ram.

              I also have like 150 apps on my phone some of them i barely dont use but i am tired to download them again when needed. Just like Moovit for example. App which shows you times, departures and which public transport goes to your desired location.
              From brownser chrome is my forte because on main screen always loads interesting news i like to read. At my PC use opera. And another brownser i have instaled in my phone is adblocker brownser because you cant use adblock for chrome in phone only in computer you can dowload this extension. But adblocker brownser for example does not offers news like chrome. So nothing to read from world or my country. Also i am big fan of TOR which will litterary gives yiu a key to every site over the internet and will let you go anywhere you want even to those sites which are unavailable for any other brownser. Such as ministry of defense etc.

              Lastly i usually swap my phones every 2 years when i pay for my current phone at my carrier. Always use 2 years long plans. My previous Xiaomi Mi 11 lite 5G 6+128GB combo i paid 12 euros a month for a phone and 32 eur monthly plan for unlimited texts and calls within EU and 15GB of data. This march 2023 they rised prices and completely changed their offers which were available since 2017 when they also completely changed their monthly plans, offers and deals. So since March 2023 instead of 32 euros monthly plan i pay 37 euros for unlimmited calls and text plus have 60GB data per month from 15GB and outside EU have 5GB data instead of 1GB. For my Motorola edge 40 pro i pay 16 euros a month and in last july of 2025 phone will be paid and i can grab new phone and sell my old device when it still have some value.
              In other words 12 eur for Mi 11 lite 5G and Moto edge 40 pro for 16 eur is like 96 eur difference for device which was worth brand new exactly 382 eur at my carrier case of Xiaomi and 789 case of Motorola. And paying 96 eur more is nothing compared to fact i am having best possible phone equal to anything else regardless of the brand for much cheaper money. (Apple,15 pro max series, S23 Ultra or S24 ultra, Google pixel 8 pro etc).
              Same CPU, GPU more accesories in box faster charging overall better device. Not counting S pen because for most basicthings most people will use hands and fingers anyway. Dont know anyone who will use S pen to draw short message or make a call.

              Lastly from current experience i know three things. Curved screens are no for me and my current phone is first and last phone with curved screen i bought (gaming experience playing clash of lords since 2014 is horrible with curved screen display).
              Will not buy anything slower than 125W charging speeds. Waiting two hours to charge your phone case of Pixel or Samsung or Apple is so lame and pathetic in 2023. If you are in hurry and you left with zero or below 10% battery its nuts. Carrying powerbank everyday is also not my forte. Also always or often charging to just what time allows you to when you are hurrry is bad for battery. Filling phone in 15 minutes case of my Moto is great. Brushing my teeth making coffee and phone is ready to go.
              Overnight charging is not my forte because battery is 8-10 hours under stress for excessive heat,

              Third thing, Xiaomi UI was great but i personaly feels much more comfortable with stock android. And would never buy an incompleted device. (I mean phone where is no accesories in the box especially the charger. Original charger makes best experience and walking from store tos tore to lok for one isnt my forte. Using what i have at home which have different impact on phone, battery and obverall expeirence is not good).

              Sorry for bit more typing but wheni have option to talk i talk a lot.

While benchmark scores have improved, matching 8+ gen 1, battery life and efficiency has gone down. Looks like they traded one for the other and not improve both. I guess you could achieve quite the same results with g2 by tuning it in certain way.
                In the end, it's a poor chip with little to no improvement. Benchmark is only half the story, other half is battery life and heat management/throttling etc

                      How is the software support for modern moto phones now, many bug fix updates (or just not needed) and how quickly are they to roll out security patches/android updates (with your operator atleast?)

                      Ill be honest, never been a fan of "Stock Android" but my main experience was with a pixel 6 pro and mine was a dud (riddled wirh hardware and software issues). Found it way too lacking in useful features and generally in all round usability including customisation (im talking just backgrounds alone it was badly lacking), maybe its just the pixel "stock experience" which has this problem (for me anyway).

                      My find x5 is actually more "google" than my pixel was, super clean, super optimised layout, just for ME personally, more useable featureset UI inclusions or have features like draw V for flashlight/3 fingers down for screenshot, hold fingerprint to bring up shortcut to apps, same with sideloaded bar you can pull out (as examples), im a sucker for shortcut interactions and fluid UI experience.

                      I think only real apps i had to remove was facebook and twitter and i disabled chrome and couple other google apps i never use like phonebook/android phoning app, was about it (i use brave as my main web browser with opera as a backup and seperate phoning app).

                      Ive got about 150 apps installed (of useable apps i want, no app on my phone i do not want/pre installed ones, nor have i rooted or got a rooted device), i have usually 16-20 apps open in the background (stopped closing all, would only ever free up 10mb if i did so it shows its using the available ram and very efficiently).

                      Would like to try a modern moto phone see what they're all about and maybe even give the pixel 8 series a try (really dont need to swap my find x5 out for a good few years in reality, nice to find some gems in the phone world.

                        To be fair this isnt a bad device, to me it just seems it shines more in ther american market than most others. In the uk its more like a £700-750 device which puts it about £80-150 cheaper than an iphone 15 (£780-900) and about £200 more than an s23 (roughly £500-650).

                        Still have thermal issues and overall endurance isnt up to par, google really needs to move to TSMC imo but we'll see what happens. Seems like the g3 is still a LOT better than g1 and g2 atleast. (SD 865 for the g1 with real life performance and a SD 888 for the g2 in real life performance). Be interesting to see how the 8 pro does with an LTPO screen and bigger battery (but higher res screen).

                        I think if the pixels got the ToF 3d bio sensor back like on the 4 series and updating to an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor they would definitely do better in sales (at the same price point), focus on software support and security plus capable cameras with good editing suite etc would make it a reliable choice (love having full use of the pixel editing software because of google one on my find x5, some powerful tools to use).

                              Other than a big camera and stock android what else does it offer? Poor battery, overheating and 128gb. Get a Poco f5 and install ROM like Evolution X you'll be really happy.

                                        Xiaomi werent bad but like i always mocking samsung for having 50+ apps which are already there by google and usually better same were with xiaomi apart the fact there was like 20 apps instead of 50 so was much more fresh experience but nothing compared to motorola with sotck android plus one motorola app for easy use of your device.
                                        Like for example shaking with your phone turns on flashlight.

                                        Stock android was always my forte since having lot of apps means lots of excessive fat which isnt healthy for mine, your or anyone else phone.
                                        Like any human would feel lot healtheir with 60-80 kilos of veight case if stock android compared to having 110-130 with MIUI or having 160-180 with samsung.
                                        Less software heavy devices have more free cpu, gpu, ram for use thus they are faster and better.
                                        Maybe someone dislike stock android because its just too simple for me is always like a win win.
                                        Anyway anyone does not matter brand he uses is able install any bloatware if he she wants to. Samsung apps, xiaomi apps even their UI can be installed if needed,

                                        To me having a google chrome inside from google is enough for example no need to have Xiaomi Brownser, Samsung brownser etc at the same time in phone.
                                        2 same apps doing same thing useless to be honest.
                                        In case of Samsung, Xiaomi, Color OS and many else chinese brands etc. its litterary same.
                                        And those doubled apps are plenty.
                                        Like i said before in case of Xiaomi is like 20 xiaomi apps versus google apps which are almost same.
                                        In case of OneUI is like 50 apps.

                                        In other words stock android is my forte and apart the curved screen i personaly enjoying my new Motorola edge 40 pro which cost me only 4eur extra from my previous device Xiamui Mi 11 lite 5G which makes 96 eur tottal in 2 years whn my phone will be paid. .
