I have had the Pixel 8 Pro since it has been offered to the public. It is an upgrade from the iPhone 11 Pro Max which I still use when I travel. Initially I wanted the iPhone 15 Pro Max but Apple does not sell the International version in the States. I need a physical SIM tray when I travel but the US version only comes with eSIM. I'll definitely purchase the A3105 version when I am in Tokyo in May. I then looked into getting the OnePlus12 but it was not due out until January and my trip was in December. So, I decided to go with the Google Pixel Pro 8. I have not had buyer's remorse, and I doubt I will. The phone is exactly what I need when I travel minus the Google Wallet issue - see below. No battery issues nor the dreaded overheating issues. I have streamed in 100+ heat in Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore with no issues. The phone was in the shade or covered under an umbrella not directly in the sun.

The only issue I have experienced with the Google Pixel 8 Pro has been with the Google Wallet in regards to Boarding Passes. Unfortunately, Google Wallet seems to have an issue with my first-middle-last name on Boarding Passes. It leaves off two letters of my middle name. This is why I still carry my iPhone 11 Pro Max as Apple's Wallet works flawlessly with Boarding Passes. Anybody that travels as much as I do knows how convenient it is to check in with our phones and have the Boarding Pass in the Wallet. I'm not holding my breath on Google fixing it anytime soon.

Note: I don't play games or watch YT videos, so I can't comment on those experiences.

For camera you can use gcam which works perfectly.

Your two mentioned "problems" can be solver very quickly.

They advertise the phone as fully submerged underwater for 30 minutes without an issue. I don't believe running water over something that is supposed to be waterproof is crazy. IP68 is what they rate waterproof watches at. You wouldn't call anyone stupid for running a divers' watch under a faucet? I guess I'm dumb for using a product in a manner in which they say it can be used. Whatever

The fastest ones out there are actually Snapdragon Gen 3 Phones the first ones are released by Xiaomi 14, but it lacks propercooling to fully use it's potential. Sony Xperia 1V or 5V are good ones if you don't need the best camera and like 21:9 ratio. Oppo find X6 and Honor Magic 5 pro might be good alternatives with a bit of a faster SoC than the Google tensor. Of course the Samsung S23 and soon the S24 will be solid alternatives with overall perfect performance (becasue they use not their own mid level chips).
