second worst sound from mobile phone, after Sony. Some of the songs are heaving echoes and are giving awful experience when putting volume up on this phone.

Shamrock Sean, 30 Dec 2023It's not slow and you're wrong because with each ... moreI repeat, it's NOT slow, plenty fast but not $1000+ worth fast, also 128 GB on the base phone? Yeah pretty pro, only Apple does that and everyone complains, rightfully so.
Also, with each update the phone might get smoother but NOT faster unless Google does some absolute base level optimisation which allows the software to extract more from the hardware with the same power draw/efficiency. My S22U SD got smoother but I can definitely feel its age. Micro stutters and hiccups have become a part of my life when using phones so I think this argument is moot, phones aren't ever gonna be fast enough for a smooth and seamless experience I guess. I'm never going for a flagship phone anymore. Just not worth it, everything's just "hype". If the next "pixel a" phone has good battery I'll go with it. The main cam is great already, I'll miss the telephoto but I think I'll just buy a mirrorless, phone cams are too artificial nowadays.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2023I use iPhone 14 Pro and P8 Pro daily, iPhone is personal ph... moreyeah I've been watching this guy since the Pixel 7 days.
Anyways, the iPhone is struggling due to poor optimisation for multitasking. Also, the S23 Ultra is NOT slower than the iPhone. The most important aspect here is the GPU, the S23 Ultra's GPU is just as fast as the Apple's. Also, the previous video showed a better performance from Samsung, maybe the update nerfed this phone or it is aging. Anyways, I'm also pretty sure it's tougher to sideload apps on this phone than on the Samsung, because of the Snapdragon. If it were Samsung with Exynos vs Google with Tensor I'd have had no problem, but it's Snapdragon vs Exynos, it's just going to be easier for devs to optimise for Snapdragon phones and you'll get better experiences there. For example options in games, smoothness in apps, availability sometimes, etc. Samsung's Exynos was just horrible due to that, apps sucked, Snapdragon isn't better because of the performance but rather the optimisation.
Anyways, you do you my friend. I just don't see myself spending so much on a Pixel Pro phone unless Google makes a chip that can hit and sustain 8+ gen 1 performance, I think that's all the performance that people need and if the phone can sustain that ~90% then I'd be willing to side with Google. Your point is valid for you and you do you buddy.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2023I use iPhone 14 Pro and P8 Pro daily, iPhone is personal ph... moreThat is the case. In real world even with iPhone having a lot more powerful chipset there is no difference, or even year older phone performing equally as good or even better as in this case. S23 Ultra must be aging like a fine wine, while iPhone not even able to use its mega powerful bionic it is just ironic. All these phones are different, even Google 8 Pro with its weaker chipset can do some tasks better or even faster. At this point most higher end chipsets are more than enough for a phone and it is mostly just a paper specs as phones are not able to utilize it especially when talking about sustaining that performance, at this point even midrange chipsets are so powerful that anything more powerful is just playing marketing competition game. Loved that video from In Depth Tech Reviews for sure it just shows the real world performance and that so much more powerful iPhone is no any better and it wont change when all these phones will be another 3 years old.

jiyen235, 30 Dec 2023some photo and video editing, lots of photo and video takin... moreI use iPhone 14 Pro and P8 Pro daily, iPhone is personal phone, P8 Pro is work phone, which are is used for business media, taking tons of pictures in RAW, edits in Lightroom, taking tons of videos daily and editing, making montages for stories and highlights, even recording pure RAW video with MotionCam Pro and honestly Pixel is absolutely lacking nothing in performance department, recording even long videos, editing and encoding. Honestly, I am liking Pixel so much, and my next personal phone might be Pixel 9 Pro.
Also, like you mostly talk about performance, yet... this video test is perfect example. https://youtu.be/YBYvB5P5f_0?si=xUds3qRBNkdbaYlK&t=473 S23 Ultra which is a year-old phone next to new iPhone 15 Pro Max with a chip which have almost twice the raw performance on paper, yet iPhone is literally struggling when pushed, next to a year-old phone with way, way less power. This video absolutely proves it even further of what I been saying and some other people here.

applesvsapples, 30 Dec 2023Literally this. As someone who uses Apple ecosystem and tri... moreiPhone's chip is way faster and it throttles yes, but its throttle performance is close to the Pixel's top performance, what does this mean? The more powerful phones can afford to use less of its full potential yet still get the job done, generating less heat, taking ~the same time, using less battery and increasing the longevity of the phones. And I repeat, I'm talking about the slowing of the phone in long term, people here don't seem to use phones for longer than 6 months or something it seems. Call me a money snob but I'd rather not waste so much money on a "flagship" phone whose chipset is gonna be in a phone that's half the price next year with 90% of the features intact. Unless Google does the Apple and Samsung move and cripples the "a" series, which would be good for business but bad for consumers.

teraflop, 30 Dec 2023Honestly I just cant agree with you, it all sounds that you... moreI'm not saying the Pixel 8 Pro is slow and absolutely sluggish and would die out in a year or two. I'm just saying it's going to have a less longer lifespan than the Ultra phones and Apple phones due to their power, you can optimise the software, sure, but you can't improve the hardware which WILL age faster. The problem with the Pixel 8 Pro is it's bonkers pricing, if it were as cheap as the Oneplus 11 or let's say as expensive as the S23+ it would've made sense. But the Google phone isn't, not anymore at least. I'm just saying the price hike makes it difficult to vouch for these phones anymore. The Pixel 7 was one of the best phones last year, the Pixel 8 series is out of reach for most people and if people want a great overall package they'd just go with an iPhone or an Ultra phone. Google isn't doing anything special outside of some software features that 40% of people would use 10% of the time. It feels more like a tech showcase/a prototype than an actual product giving value, at least for most "normal" folks. The only thing I think is amazing for these phones is the display but seriously, the difference between 1600 and 1300 nits isn't huge due to diminishing returns due to how brightness works. Any phone at ~1100 nits is good enough that anything more is not going to be noticed most likely.
I don't have problems with these phones as they are, but rather the pricing strategy, the availability and thus the end price. The Pixel 8 Pro 128gb is more expensive than the S23U 256 gb in my country, even though I hate the Samsung processing and the cams are pretty mid actually, you can live with that if you use Gcam. Modern flagship phones are overrated and overhyped af, if it were possible to only upgrade the chipset/battery and continue using 4 year old phones it would've made the most sense, everything else is marketing hype that reviewers and consumers buy into. Next year the Pixel 8a will have this chipset, you're saying this is good enough be in a phone that's 1k usd+ but why would it be in a ~500 usd phone? Google's flagship don't make as much sense as other manufacturers' and Google knows it. This is why they started crippling the Pixel 8 with features. Look at MKBHD's blind smartphone comparison and you'll see the Pixel 7a is so close to the Pixel 8 Pro it's unbelievable that the 8 Pro costs double. You get 90% of the google experience with the "Pixel a" series, the rest is just fluff.

It's like I'm not occasionally pushing the phone, I'm doing it at a medium-high rate constantly. I've gauged that by the heat of the phone, I'm yet to see a phone with which I'm satisfied by the thermals.

teraflop, 30 Dec 2023Honestly I just cant agree with you, it all sounds that you... moreLiterally this. As someone who uses Apple ecosystem and tries Android flagships from time to time, I can absolutely agree. If you take let's say similar year iPhone and Ultra, there is basically no real world difference, iPhones chips is way faster, but it does not matter at all as they both age the same way, no matter all this additional power, which is only peek power which is basically never used, nor sustained. If someone says that iPhones feels faster, it is absolute nonsense, and that person probably never even used said phones side by side and just speaking purely based spec sheets.

jiyen235, 29 Dec 2023I'm just speaking from my experience and as I said, it... moreHonestly I just cant agree with you, it all sounds that you are speaking based on spec sheets and benchmarks and not real world outcome. I always carry both iPhone and Android phone since 2017, upgrading both when I do and from my experience and in general, no matter that iPhones SoC are faster, it slows down the same way, it does not feel any faster next to same year Samsung Ultra or even Pixel, even when iPhone chip have such a higher performance buffer or in other words additional power spare, it is literally irrelevant.
All phones throttle, literally a minute or few minutes later when pushed, iPhone 15 Pro Max actually throttle even faster than P8 Pro. With that said, phones are not made for sustained performance and it is not going to happen anytime soon, peek power is one thing, sustained is another. Phones keep increasing power, yet thermal/cooling cap is reacted years ago and all this power cant even be used in real world, it is basically useless in a phone as it cant sustain it at all, yet it is perfect for marketing. Perfect example is laptops, they been capped and limited for years with power draw cap, because of limited cooling solutions and thermal throttling, you can lets say market PC 4080 and Laptop 4080 as same gpus, yet performance gap and difference is massive.

TedexAMP, 27 Dec 2023i don't know about that. i have iphone 14 pro max and ... moreI'm just speaking from my experience and as I said, it won't be slow, but rather slower than how it was at the start, I saw it in phones, TVs, cameras and even computers. Benchmarks are one thing but the day to day usage is just slower and choppier than before.
Also, the Pixel 8 series have some either awful thermal throttling or bad heating issues, combined with that you'll get a hotter phone which would eat away at the battery extremely fast. I've seen it time and time again with Samsung flagships I've used and my cousin's Pixel 7 does indeed heat up a lot so I'm guessing this would heat more due to the faster chip and higher grade displays. The average consumer won't notice it tho, and if you don't push the phones you won't notice it as well. I've always pushed phones so I killed them fast, I mean that's what flagships are for right? More performance and power that you can use? Most people would be happy with a midranger if the brand value were high enough.

Anonymous, 26 Dec 2023Thing is most consumers dont even care about absolute raw c... moreIf you've never owned a phone for a long time you won't know what the problem is for a slower chip. The longer you own a phone the slower it feels and the choppier it gets, better base performance allows you to have better longevity. Additionally gaming performance is superior in stronger chips by default, if I buy an iPhone I get some of the best gaming performance, if I get a Pixel I have to think about what settings to use. Midrange level performance is unacceptable for a 1k dollar phone. If I were to buy a phone for day to day tasks only I'd buy a midrange phone, like the "majority" of people, not a flagship.
Stop making excuses for poor hardware and poor value.
