[UPDATE] Google readies Android's October security update, factory images and OTA files for Nexus devices are out

EDIT OCT-3 @ 17:10 EST: Nexus 6 Factory image for Android 7.0 is now available from Google's website. OTA also rolling out. Nexus 9 is not getting the Nougat update as per this artcle

We've entered another month, and you know what that means, right? Another security update for Android, of course. Google has readied the October security patches for its mobile operating system, and it's already posted the factory images and OTA zip files for Nexus devices and the Pixel C tablet.

The over-the-air rollout of this update should commence shortly, so if you sit tight it will hit your handset or tablet within the next couple of weeks or so. Of course if you're impatient and aren't afraid to flash things on your device, you can do that right now using the aforementioned factory images or OTA zips, which you can find at the links below.

Do note that the Motorola Nexus 6 and the LTE-capable model of HTC's Nexus 9 are still being ignored by Google when it comes to a final release of Android 7.0 Nougat. So while these two devices do have new builds up, they're still based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow - unlike what's happening for the Huawei Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X, Google Pixel C, Asus Nexus Player, and HTC Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi), all of which have been enjoying Nougat for weeks now.

Google will stop supporting Nexus 6 after October 2016. Google's policy is only supporting a phone for max 2 years from the date the phone was released. So if you buy a Nexus phone after its launch date, you are getting less than 2 years support.
