Sorry to hear that your problem still persists. I now use a Oneplus 5T. As soon as I connected it to WiFi it downloaded Android v8.1.0 and the May 2018 security level update. The phone itself is a real powerhouse and I can't see myself changing it for along time yet. It's just a shame that Huawei have such a poor record on updating their phones.

The auto brightness actually seems to work as it should (when box is checked). It dims down the screen when the surrounding light is low and stays high when when under light conditions. When the box is unchecked it dims down under all light conditions. So I am still stuck with it. I can't choose the brightness I want manually. By the way, what phone do you use now when you have stopped using the Honor 8?

You are correct about the description of the slider bar, I was recalling from memory. I still own a H8 but never use it anymore. I don't use it because it is still stuck on Android v7.0 and a security patch level dated 5 August 2017 - 10 months out of date! I decided that I would never purchase another Huawei phone and I never have.

It seems that my brightness bar looks different to your description. I have a box to the right of the bar which says auto. When I check the box I have assumed that auto is turned on, but now I see it seems to be the other way round! I have wanted to turn off auto brightness so I have had the box unchecked. Now I see that when I check the auto box, auto brightness is turned off instead of on, and so far it has worked fine. No dimming! But how logical is this? To me checking a box is to activate something and unchecking is to say "I don't want it", in this case automatic adjustment of brightness. Well anyway, I hope the problem is solved now...

Olle, 15 Jun 2018No, I can't see that there is any setting that account for this. @Olle
Pull the notification bar down on any screen and you will see a Brightness slider bar. If the icon (the one marked A) is illuminated then tap it to turn auto brightness OFF.

When my Nexus 5x broke down I bought an Honor 8. A good phone but I have one major problem. The screen's brightness dims down every time I start Chrome and even on other occasions. This is very irritating as I find the screen to dark when it does this. Auto brightness is turned off and I have no battery settings that could cause this. Googling this issue I have found that this is an issue for some Honor 8 owners and as yet I can not see that there is any clear understanding or solution of this problem. Anyone here who knows what the problem is? Software or hardware? Any solution?
