Gartner Inc. predicts Andr(av)oid will surge to 14% of the global smartphone market in 2012 ahead of the iPhone, as well as Windows Mobile and BlackBerry smartphones.
In 2012 market will be
Symbian: 203 million handsets, 39 percent of the market; Google Android: 76 million handsets, 14.5 percent of the market; Apple iPhone OS: 71.5 million handsets, 13.7 percent of the market; Windows Mobile: 66.8 million handsets, 12.8 percent of the market; RIM BlackBerry OS: 65.25 million handsets, 12.5 percent of the market; Linux variants: 28 million handsets, 5.4 percent of the market; Palm webOS: 11 million handsets, 2.1 percent of the market.

Database giant Oracle has launched a legal action against Google, alleging that the company infringes seven patents it owns related to Java.
Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, was formerly a chief technical officer for Sun Microsystems. Sun Microsystems was bought by Oracle.
The move is interesting because when Sun Microsystems was a separate entity it promoted Java as an open source option.
Google never formally took out a licence from Sun Microsystems, while Java is widely used in a large number of applications created by other vendors. The law suit will cause other manufacturers to wonder whether Oracle will start a patent hunt against them.
The move prompted the Wall Street Journal to remind its readers that Larry Ellison, the CEO of Oracle, is a friend of Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple.
Apple considers Android to be a considerable threat to the iPhone and the Google OS continues to grow its market share as an OS for smartphones.

I love the HTC Desire and I know it can be updated to the new Froyo 2.2 OS. My question is after installing Froyo, can you have the option to run the Sense UI. Reason being is that I love the appearance of 2.1 OS, and I have seen some footage of Froyo and it isn't exactly to my liking. Also if it can be done, is it a relatively straight forward process? I mean ideally I do not want to have to "hack" or jump through hopps. I'm just wondering if HTC offer the Sense UI option along with the installation of Froyo?

          Thank you.

Wish Desire had at least 8GB Internal Memory, true HD video recording and a 1500 maH Battery , a la Samsung Galaxy S.

But then the Galaxy S doesn't have Sense UI, does it?

                Guess u can't have everything...

By turning off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, changing most widgets to manual refresh and turning off Mobile Data Always On (Makes no difference to email, SMS, Browsing etc) you can get those sorts of figures.

Just add toggle widgets to the front screen to turn the above on and off easily when needed.

Oh and don't use an App Killer, big no no.....Google it!!!!

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2010When you say 10 Hours, have you turned off things you don't... moreDont worry about the battery issue. Just buy a 3200 MAH battery which will last you about 3 days until you need to charge it again. This is with intense use. Go to youtube and type in HTC Desire extended battery. Also google it. They are amazing and are the solution as all smart phones have poor batteries only lasting about half a day. The only small downfall is that a little bumb on the back is produced. Who cares when you can use it for three, maybe four days until it needs refueling. They are other extended batteries but the 3200 MAH is the strongest and produces the smallest bump. I think they are shipped from Dallas, Texas so I will get mine when I go the US and get it delievered to my cousins address in Las Vegas to avoid expensive postage costs.

Nukey, 21 Oct 2010I have just read that the display on HTC Desire can be AMOL... moreIf you've just ordered it, it will be SLCD.

If the box says 3.7" Touch Sensitive Screen in't SLCD it's only AMOLED if it says AMOLED on the box.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have just read that the display on HTC Desire can be AMOLED or S-LCD due to component shortage from Samsung. I'm not sure how to tell the difference between the displays but I hope that the one I ordered have AMOLED.

I prefer desire ,*cause of operating system , and facilities of applications that are free of charge rather Iphoen , where u have to buy about 90% applications , anyway Good luck on both sides !
