AnonD-25897, 11 Oct 20111. internal storage is not enough for me...any suggestion??... moreDon't you get it HTC claim on the box that there is 512MB but that is a lie there is 150.75MB! When I questioned them about this first they lied and when I would not accept that they said "WE APOLOGISE BUT MOST OF THE INTERNAL MEMORY IS USED BY INSTALLED APPS" when I questioned this they stated "IT'S COMMON INDUSTRY PRACTICE" when I questioned this stating I don't work in their industry, I got this lie from them "WE STATE THIS ON ADVERTS FOR THE DESIRE" when I questioned this I got this from HTC "WE CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH ADVERTS OR WHERE YOU CAN FIND THEM" HTC are dishonest.
HTC are cheating us!
THEY SHOULD BE:
HTC QUIETLY DISHONEST

seamonkey UK, 11 Oct 2011I work in a phone shop and have the HTC Desire, PLEASE DO N... moreI did say don't install and ask HTC are you joking? They may talk to you because you work in a phone shop BUT they lie and are the biggest crooks going.
They have become greedy their new Radar retails at £500 and looks and feels like a phone that would cost £200 it will be a failure! The same for the Titan retails £530 looks and feels like a £300 phone at most.
HTC deserve to fail because:
1. They have become greedy.
2. They have very poor customer service.
3. Their handsets are becoming poor quality.
4. They are pricing cheap handsets at very high price points.
5. They are cheating us out of a decent 2.3.6 just to save face.
6. They are lying about internal ROM etc.,
If you want a decent upgrade then email HTC or say on their Facebook only numbers will get us a decent gingerbread over the air.

I work in a phone shop and have the HTC Desire, PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE TO GINGER BREAD. This android version will eat up all your remaining internal memory. If you don't believe me ask HTC!

Abadi, 09 Oct 2011Hello,
i went to the HTC developers page and registered ... moreGo down the left column and you will see the Desire name all the related stuff is in there and one of them is gingerbread which is the 2.3 upgrade.
Where you on a PC? You have to download to your PC first and then to your phone HTC are being a pain not giving us over the air just to save face.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG AND I HAVE NOT UPDATED TO HTC'S RELEASE BECAUSE IT'S A POOR VERSION 2.3.3 I RECOMMEND WAITING UNTIL THEY RELEASE 2.3.6
It is your choice to wait or not to wait.
Good luck

FOR EVERYONE WHO CLAIMS THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THE FIRST DESIRE AND THE A8181 (not the DESIRE s)
Your wrong the main differences are:
Old had a Amoled screen made by Samsung.
A8181 has a Super LCD screen made by Sony.
Old had video at 15fps and WVGA.
A8181 has HD video at 30fps and widescreen ability and HD is twice the quality of DVD.
Old battery was 1130mAh
A8181 has 1470mAh
Old shipped with 2.1 and had to be upgraded to 2.2
A8181 shipped with 2.2
HTC also fixed the bugs that the original had.
So stop saying rubbish the ones who claim there is no difference because you only make yourselves look obtuse.

Aa Banjar, 07 Oct 2011whether the android version 2.1 after an upgrade to version... moreYes you can but HTC did not release an over the air version so You have to download to a PC first.
The download you get from HTC developers site but HTC are out of order because I read in Android magazine this month that SONY has released a 2.3.4 for their Xperia 10 mini that thing is tiny and the memory is far below the Desire and IT IS getting over the air.
The problem is HTC is out selling everyone so they don't care about ppl who bought the phone that made the company super rich and made Android without the Desire buyers Android would be dead and HTC much poorer.
Even better will be ICECREAM SANDWICH COMING DECEMBER 2011 AND THE DESIRE COULD EASILY RUN IT BUT I BET GREEDY HTC DOES NOT GIVE US IT.
I think I will take my phone to an expert rooter and have it rooted because then YOU are not dictated to by HTC and YOU can rid the rubbish etc.
GO INTO SETTINGS
press on applications
PRESS ON MANAGE APPLICATIONS
press the all
YOU WILL SEE OVER 250 MB OF JUNK THAT HTC WON'T ALLOW YOU TO DELETE.
The apps the phone needs to run yes lock them BUT anything that IS NOT needed to make the phone function we should be able to delete!
You cannot even delete wallpapers you don't want and they use a lot of memory!
HTC are just as much control freeks as apple before I bought my Desire I always bought Nokia and they allow 99.99% of the apps they add and walls songs etc to be deleted and 100% of apps games etc move to SD card, so someone is giving us a raw deal.
I bought my Desire for itself SIM free I love my Desire but I hate HTC and Android all these companies should stop their control fetish.
Nokia is changing their OS and going back to making top quality phones I can't wait they are a European company and don't try dictating to their customers!
They are making a new phone that will be made from a single piece of CARBON FIBRE AND SCRATCH PROOF GLASS THAT WILL COST UNDER £500 totally upto to date software with Duel core etc., that phone will be built like a tank and it looks beautiful and it will come in a dozen different colours I like black but anyone who wants lime green or bright pink etc., they can have that colour the camera will be 8 meg and Zeiss optics I predict this phone will out sell all others by at least 5 to 1 just like their old phones use to before they forgot what the Nokia customer wants.
Good luck Nokia and HTC you HAVE ruined a wonderful phone by your obsession with control and that may be okay in Asia but that IS NOT where you sell your phones we Europeans don't like dictators are great grandparents fought and died for are freedom and YOU should remember that!

char24, 07 Oct 2011Ok this may sound stupid but i have 2 queations:
1. Is the... moreYou can move apps to the SD card if you have 2.2 and up BUT this relies on the developer coding it to be able.
The benefit of root is you can do anyway and also delete the rubbish you don't want that HTC insist on putting on the phone.
I ADVICE YOU THOUGH FIND SOMEONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO ROOT PHONES BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T DO RIGHT YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE.
If you brick your phone while attempting to root your phone the warranty becomes invalid! You will have a piece of junk.
App monster/App monster pro in the market will not only back up your apps but will inform you everytime an app can be moved and you just press on and it will take you to the the right screen and you just press on move to SD.
It's very simple with that app. I hope this helps if you need anymore help feel free to ask.
Your question was not stupid! So don't put yourself down we all have different skills and knowledge ASK me about a car engine and without researching I would not have a clue lol
Best wishes

AnonD-24906, 05 Oct 2011how to upgrade to 2.3 ?
is it even posible?
pls help QUICKREAD what I said HTC is cheating us the heat is due to the battery HTC is known for their batteries getting hot this helps lower your screen brightness to a level that you can still see because the screen is like a light bulb and IT gets hot.
In theory the phone would shut down before exploding I say in theory because I don't want to risk it so when heat gets 44 c I switch off myself luckly does not get that hot very often. On the original Desire I have been informed use to shut down at 35 c at least the later Desire and S don't shut down that low, ambient temperature makes it heat up quicker if hot! I wonder how the Australians etc manage. Please anyone from Australia how do you manage the heat problem?
I HOPE THIS helps if YOU want a short answer please let me know.
