In Windows it will show up as a new drive with a letter, like "Removable Disk (E)".

We bought this phone for my wife and the first one was a pretty good phone (we had it replaced recently because the micro-usb port broke). The replacements have had issues with shutoff and overheating. I'm trying the suggestion on this thread about wedging the battery tightly side-to-side. Here are some other tips for those of you having other issues:
Duplicate texts, freezing, lagging:
Try installing the latest firmware update (2.18.502.0) from HTC (make sure to install HTC Sync first and connect your phone so it's recognized): http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-freestyle-att/software-updates
This will reset your phone, so make sure you've backed everything up (I don't know a way to back up texts, sorry).
Copying photos and videos:
Install HTC Sync, then connect your phone via usb to a computer, then choose either HTC Sync or Disk Drive for the connection type on the phone. It should show up in your list of drives and you can copy the files or use a program like Picasa to import them to the computer.
If you're getting the "oops" error a lot, check your microSD card for errors, try reformatting it (you can copy contents to a computer first), or try a different card.
Of course, you can try factory reset too if none of these things help. We've had to exchange it twice since the first one because of shutdown issues. AT&T won't let us trade for a different phone, so we're stuck trying and retrying to get one that works right. They usually don't give you a new battery when they swap your phone, so you might give that a shot. We're going to try a new battery next.

I got my first Freestyle in February 2012.
Within the first week, I would get the "Oops..." messages and it would randomly turn off. I went to the AT&T device repair center on May 11, 2012 because my phone had died and would not turn on. I had charged it all night. They replaced my phone with one of the same model. Within hours, I was faced with the same issues. I plan on going back to the repair center tomorrow (since today is Sunday) and demand a different model phone. I didn't pay for this one, and I know there are plenty of other "free" phones. They said that there was a known problem with the power button, and the batter. For starters, if it's a known problem, why don't you warn others?
Frankly, I find this to be absurd. I'll let you know what happens after tomorrow.

Dont buy this phone. I was sent this phone by AT&T three weeks ago as an insurance replacement for my old phone. All that has been decibed in this forum is true. You can not archive text messages or save pictures and video. HTC has software but even there software doesn't allow you. Excluding touch phone functionality this is a HORRIBLE phone.

this phone is a horrible phone. It has way to many problems that seem to get worse and worse. untill they fix the phones software and stuff i recommending not to get one unless the place that you can get one has high quality version. my phone has broke once, got it repaired, it broke again, got a new phone *Same brand and all that.* broke soon after that, and now the screen isn't working. the phone gets multible text messages from the same person and it lags and freezes a lot. it sometimes flips out and when you try to press the unlock button it will show the unlock screen then back to a black screen and the back to the unlock screen...

The minute I got my HTC Freestyle I chraged it and when I started to use it for about 3 hours, the problems started to occur. The first problem was the Opps! A system error has occured, Restarting... I figured "huh" I must have done something wrong but, then it happened again within a minute of it restarting. Over the next two days I started to notice that I was receiving multiple text messages from the people who I was texting, I asked them why they sent it so many times and they said that they didn't so I emailed HTC about the problem and they said to update to the new version but, it already was. Then after I hung up in a call the phone shut down by itself and I had to remove the battery and reinsert it inorder to turn it back on. This is annoying and when I need my phone the most I take it out of my pocket only to find that it turned off and I have to remove the battery once more inorder to turn it back on, then I have to wait for about a minute so that it can turn on. We people do NOT have time for this. Even the phones from 2000 still work and, they don't have any problems. Right now I am using a go phone that is working just fine and it doesn't do any of the things that this phone does. Honestly, I think that I would rather throw my freesyle away but, I decided to reorder one for free to see how it turns out. I might need a good nights rest and prepare for frustration again. I do NOT recommened this phone for anybody who gets frustrated real easy and who is very impatient. Wish me luck!

I solved the heat problem. As some have said the battery is extremely loose, it slides from side to side. I put a plastic brace in the right hand side and it has not overheated. In addition I am on day 3 without charging it, with bluetooth never shut off. It is at about half full today.
I do not use the data stuff at all. My issue has been with the oops restarts and all out crashes. I have a theory, though I still need to test it.
My theory is that with the battery loose it caused some kind of issue when updating the ROM. Weather that be the discharge/feedback issue that was causing the overheats or something else I am not sure.
I have not tried factory resetting it and starting over yet because I do not want to wipe my stuff on a hunch. Anyone else have a thought on this theory?

I've owned this phone for about a month now and have experienced all the problems mentioned by other owners. I took a chance upgrading to this phone from my older Nokia considering all the negative reviews I previously read on it. Now I wish I had just kept my Nokia. Here are a few of the more annoying issues:
1. Goes completely dead for no reason. To fix, you need to remove the battery, reinsert, then power back on. Also, try to dim the display a couple settings as it seems the brighter the screen, the more this happens.
2. Displays an "Oops, system error message..." intermittently. It will fix itself after a self restart.
3. During a phone call, screen will go completely black with no access to phone options such as volume, keypad, etc. You must press the "on" button on the top for the display to work again. This should never go black during a call especially with a touchscreen device.
4. Phone will lock up while moving from one screen to the next. To fix, you need to again, remove the battery, reinsert and power back on.
In summary, I do not recommend this phone. It's too bad considering it is very well made and looks great. They just need to fix some of the bugs in the s/w and then it would be a great product.

Well, ive had my freestyle for 7 months and it just started giving me problems. The screen will freeze and the buttons will work, everything freezes, restarts, unlocks itself while i'm on the phone and calls other people, its very slow and now my battery life only lasts 3 hours at most even if i don't use it. I wouldnt suggest this phone to ANYONE. Save yourself the stress.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2012This is the worst phone I've ever had. Receives text messag... moreI agree with everything. This phone is horrible. It lags EVERY TIME you text. It shuts down in the middle of a call and also holds only 100 messages. Then you have to delete them. (That happened with me) It is the worst possible phone to get. I would rather get a TracPhone than this.

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2012I got the HTC Freestyle about six months ago and the first ... moreThat happened to me before, with that you need to just go get it replaced, but the way my phone has been acting i would prefer you to just get a whole new phone if your not under the 2 yr plan. this phone has tons of software problems and i have switched it out 2 times for a new one because of the problems.
