Anonymous, 28 Mar 2012I got the HTC Freestyle about six months ago and the first ... moreThat happened to me before, with that you need to just go get it replaced, but the way my phone has been acting i would prefer you to just get a whole new phone if your not under the 2 yr plan. this phone has tons of software problems and i have switched it out 2 times for a new one because of the problems.

sjilean, 14 Jul 2011no data plan required $100 sleek, well built, convenient ... moreAre the problems with this phone as serious as people make it out to be?
I honestly don't mind a few duplicate messages or random reboots.
But is it so bad I won't be able to use the phone?

I got the HTC Freestyle about six months ago and the first day I got it and I already had problems. I upgraded online and it worked better, but all of a sudden when I need it most it won't turn on all the way. It starts and goes to the black screen when the HTC thing pops up, but then it just stops!

This is the worst phone I've ever had. Receives text messages multiple times, constantly lags, restarts multiple times each day, and just completely broke and won't start at all after just a few months with it. This is my second phone and the first one had the exact same problems- I tried doing everything they have suggested (frequently deleting texts, turning it off to charge, etc.) and nothing has worked. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

I've had the F5151 Freestyle for about a week. This was chosen as a replacement for a Samsung Rugby company cell phone. I have heard the complaints about low signal strength. I too seem to have never yet seen anything more than 3 bars except for breief moments. But up until today, as some reviews have claimed, I have not had a call dropped for failure to initiate a call. Today, a couple times it failed to dial out. Signal strength was flickering on one. Just to be honest, I work in a production facility and my office is in the center of the plant with several walls to outside and another floor above. It remains to be seen if this will be a consistant issue.

I do not own a smart phone. I have no plans to email or search the internet on my phone. This is a 3G phone and many of the features are available. I use this and my personal phones to make calls. Other reviews stated that the speaker provided a noticable hiss. I have not found that to be the case. Sound is clear and more than loud enough for me. I have to turn down from highest setting.

The phone is customizable enought that I believe will be more than adequate for all but hard core users. Display is sharp and bright enough to use outdoors although in bright direct sunlight, naturally it is somewhat dim.

Display locks automatically after a a minute. Wish this was ajustable for a shorter time or provide an option to go into on demand.

I charge my phone on my dresser at night. The display constantly shows large icon for battery charge and never goes blank. Ifyou need a nightlight, the display is certainly bright enough to serve this purpose.

All in all, this is a phone worthy enough to consider. It feels sturdy thanks to its mostly metal housing. Although this makes the phone slightly heavier than some others. Battery life is about what is stated, about 6.5 hours.

I have experienced all the complaints that everybody has been going through. One thing to try to make the phone run a little bit more stable is to reduce the display brightness down to two bars. With that setting the freezing problem doesn't happen much often as compared as before but the Oops problem still happens once in a while but at least I don't to remove the battery to recover. It looks like there is heat circulation problem inside the phone, it overheats when I leave it on my pocket. Reducing the brightness helps a little bit in reducing the heat.
BTW, I switched to a different phone.

Not a very good phone at all! The worst part about it is that it lags immensely when you try to type out a text, even when you don't have much space taken up by pictures and apps and stuff. Not only that, it shuts down frequently with "system errors", often receives the same message three or four times, and runs out of battery very quickly (even when hardly used). I strongly suggest you reconsider buying this phone.

Ive gone through 3 htc freestyles, and multiple sim cards. The phone sucks. It freezes, restarts and recieves the same txt message almost 10 times everytime. Dont buy it. your welcome... i hate htc
