Syrus, 28 Oct 2010Let me first ask you …did you type that lengthy comments on... moreI under stand your views but as you can see different people have different needs so a lot of people that did not like WM before may like WP now, and those like my self that have the need for a PDA but don’t want to carry a PDA and a phone, so they got WM would not like the new WP the way it is now because of this.

b.t.w. yes I did you that long post on post on the phone. It was done in word, small bits at a time, when ever I had time, then paste into here. Yes I do use my cell in the car that is what I got the original car mount, but not for sms. It auto switches to speaker phone mode in the mount and I use it with skype voice, msn voice clip, I use to use google maps but now I got garmin XT.
Unlike you that know every street in your country, there were a lot of short cut away from traffic but I an most other people would not take them because of the areas you have to pass through. (Not the kind of place to stop and ask for directions. You would be better off saying “here are my car keys I’ll get out and walk now, do you want what are in my pockets too?) But with the Garmin there is no place I will not go now. It did lead me down some streets that had man made blocks on them, 1 or 2 times. It’s a good thing it has auto rerouting.

I do have a PC in work but that is monitored by an I.T. department. Emails are stored, no way I going to do my personal stuff on that PC.
And like you I’m no longer a kid, so liming with friends at home with kids and a wife around is not a thing the boys go for.

I have unlimited data but a very small voice package. So I try to keep my voice calls and sms to a minimum that can only be done by having skype and msn on most of the time.
The big thing now in cutting cost is BBM but seeing I can’t do that on a WM or WP phone. MSN will have to do.

Anthony, 27 Oct 2010After reading your personal views I have concluded that you... moreLet me first ask you …did you type that lengthy comments on your phone?? I do respect your point as every man to his taste. Looks like….your phone is the be all & end all for you since you do most of things on phone. That’s where lies the difference between you & me. I'm sort of PIM & outlook person….so for me…Getting myself organized with my contacts, calendar, to dos etc are my first priority. I tried many times to take the most out of my hd2 but simply I just can not stand tiny phone screen & half-azzed features. Short sms & short emails are the only typing things I do on my phone. These days ppl are always near pc whether you are at work or at home. Only time you are not near is in between work & home…..and don't tell me that you send sms & play with phone while driving.

By no means I'm against those features. Its good to have more features but I'm not fan of crappy bottle-neck features which can do jobs but very painfully slow & sluggish way. What I am trying to say is that the most of today's smart phones are like "Swiss Kinfe". They will never replace computer ….at least for me. Have you own one of those multi-function swiss knife?? It does non of things perfectly but can be a life saver when in emergency though. It takes hours to cut wood with those little SAW you have in swiss knife. I will use this little saw only when I'm in life & death situation. My job requires to work with lots of excel files……and don't tell me to do that on phone. Able to view file is enough for me…..its almost impossible to work on excel file on phone. Make sense??

Same thing with surfing, gps, googlemap etc……I do use sometimes but the thing is that I am not totally satisfied with the result. Most of time it is slow unless I am on wifi. I do not have patience for lag, slowness on phone nor pc. I do not blame on phone though…its about carrier & network's data speed (wish speed is like in japan or Skorea). When I use gps & google map….in 20-30 mins….my battery dies on me. And without battery…..phone is simply brick. 90% of time I do not need map & gps also……….. I know each and every damn streets & roads of my place. I need this only once in a while I am away from my city. Unless you have paid-navigation apps like tom tom etc where you can get traffic info also….which is handy while driving(if you donot have in car).

PS: Your recommendation on buying simple nokia, sony ericsson…..does not cut it either. Not compatible or limited with outlook…..no push email, no decent rss reader. I am not into multimedia or games(simple solitaire & puzzle games do for me) as you described. Music is the only thing I love to listen on phone as no longer need to carry my old mp3 player. Skype, msn are the thing of the past for me. I was addicted to chats when I was young. Not anymore….getting old man lol. I prefer to send sms or directly call instead of using those. I just use facebook for social network. I also realized that if you are into msn, skype…you need to do real multitasking.

As for win7…..eventually it will have all features by early next yr. I used to hate so much about hubs & today's screen. Now it's opposite. The more I see the more I love it (may be tired of htc sense). Win7 growing on me.

mandy, 27 Oct 2010hateeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it its very bad mobile never buy it ... moreI don't know what phone you have, but my HD2 works GREAT... I've had no problems with it (only had one problem, but that was due to buying the phone on first release. Had an issue with phone not turning off... After sending to HTC repair, it works great now)... As far as phone losing data, and stoping.. Mine doesn't do any of that at all... Works flawlessly.... Matter of fact I'm running WM6.5.X and Android HD Sense on it now with no problems... Waiting on WP7 ROM to run on the my HD2 (hopefully soon).... So the HD2 is still a GREAT phone to have... I will be keeping mines for awhile.........

Syrus, 26 Oct 2010I'm ready take plunge into WD7 phone but it’s the hardware... moreAfter reading your personal views I have concluded that you do not need a PDA phone, because any media phone would do the things you are interested in. a Sony W series phone could do what you want. The 1st generation iPhone could do what you want. Come to think about it, any medium entry phone in this day and age can do what you want. So for you it just boils down to the looks and feel of the phone in your hand. (Correct me with an explanation if I’m wrong)

Here are my personal view on copy/cut & paste, multitasking, Bluetooth and Customizations.
Copy & paste and multitasking go hand in hand. Must times I use it with out even thinking about it. And I only realized how important it is when I had to use a phone that did not have it (in the transition period between selling my HD and get my HD2)

You think of multitasking as seeing 2-3 windows at the same time like a PC screen. But that not what it’s about on a PDA phone.
This is how I use multitasking copy/cut & paste on the HD2. Some you may have also done as well without thinking about it.

                  1. Every time I have to give you guys a web link in this forum I copy the link and past it in the text entry window.
                  2. Every time I have skype or msn chat running/connected, so I can get messages but none of the 2 are the active screen on the phone. That is multitasking in action.
                  3. I only speak English, so every time I go to a none English web site. I copy & paste the link to http://translate.google.com/#en|es| and have the site converted to English for me.
                  4. Every time I have to enter information from a sms to my task or calendar, that is multitasking and copy and past.
                  5. When I have to dial a number from the online yellow pages it’s faster to copy/past it into the dialer.
                  6. Doing on site or in office calculations require the use of the calculator a unit converter and word/ note pad or a (pen and paper, which most of the time I don’t carry) to shear information between the programs is a lot easier with multitasking and copy/past.
                  7. You organize your phone from the PC. I use my PC less because I use the phone as if it was my PC. So cut and paste helps with keeping things organized on the SD. No need to wait till I get to a PC and forget half the things I wanted to do.

How are any of those things going to be done with tiles the way it is setup now.
When Microsoft fix those, then they can call it a smart phone again. Till then it’s just a media device that can make calls. Even iPhone after years of doing things there way, realized the importance of copy and past and multitasking.

                  Bluetooh…
Just like you I mostly use it for my stereo head set.
But you know what, every one I know has a cell phone but most don’t have a data plan. And being able to send files by bluetooth or take out my SD is very important when hanging out with friends and someone sees something the other person has and want it too. (mp3, mp4, jpg, or program installation.) no bluetooth file transfer and not removable memory means that you have the run home for a PC or go hunting for a WiFi hotspot.

                  Customization…
My phone worked will with the stock 1.66 and it is working great with 3.14.
But just working is not enough. When you spend a lot of money on something you should be happy about most parts if not every part of it. Being able to customize the interface gives you that option to have things more to your liking.
I like the look of the sense UI but the dialer, keyboard and task bar is just too plain in comparison. That’s where customizing come in. I’m not talking about tweaking because ALL phones can be tweaked. Some other people don’t like the look of the sense UI and they can change that too. But with WP7, if you don’t like the look of something what can you do about it? Have you seen what that keyboard and phone dialer looks like? It’s almost Stone Age.
I have no doubt that M.S. will fix all this in time. So I have no need the buy until then.
You made a comment about remembering the 1st iPhone. Well I do remember it and the reasons I never got one, and it is for the same reasons I will not get a WP7 phone the way it is now. There are those like you who needs are not as complex and for them I say by all means buy it, because the hardware is good. I’m just waiting of the software to become good as well.

Feel free to disagree.. all I ask is that you give your reason why.

I'm ready take plunge into WD7 phone but it’s the hardware design that preventing me to jump. For me, Htc hd7 & samsung omnia7 are the best among all available windows7 phones. Omnia7 has power on/off button on the side which I do not like (even engadget review said that they turned off the phone accidently while talking on phone). As for htc hd7….it has two big speaker groove on the top & bottom. I think one is ear piece & other one is speaker. Those are dust magnet. I always had tough time cleaning my hd2's ear grill. As for software, it looks pretty zippy & fast despite some limitations.

I asked myself following questions about those limitations: (this is just me….may not be true for others)

1)Copy & paste: I do not remember when was the last time I used this feature in my hd2. I do everything in pc & then sync to phone. So I hardly use copy/paste.

2)Multitasking: This is phone….you can not have 2-3 windows open in that tiny screen like in computer. For me multitasking is …..Able to listen music while doing sth else on phone. Again win7 interface is about hub & tiles which help you to switch programs easily.

3)Bluetooth: Hmmm …..same questions….when was last time I transfer file via bluetooth on my hd2. Truth is …not even once. I need bluetooth….but not for transferring files but for pairing bluetooth devices like head phones etc. To transfer files…there are lots of other options.

4)Customization: I needed to customize my hd2 coz without that I can not run my damn hd2 smoothly…….no choice. Win7 is different league…..it is smooth as butter out of box. Anyway those third party stuffs hogs your memory & slow down your device.

Having said all that……..there will be update on Jan and will include all those above features if you desperately need them. I think MS is playing marketing game here. They can bloody spend 1bn dollar on marketing for win7…….why can't they include those simple above features?? Its not that….MS can not make those. They are the giant……….anyway just my 2 cents on win7 and I do not understand why ppl hate this awesome win7 for simply not having copy/paste. Remember iphone in early days??
