Saee - Iran, 29 Oct 2010My ROM is 166.707.1 Manila 2.5.19211619.0 I gave away t... moreYou gave away the HD2 for the Topaz! WOW! That was a bad move.
I had the HD a.k.a. black stone and was running the LEO ROM on it for a few mounts before the HD2 came out. Loved LEO but it was putting major lag on the blackstone. So I knew I had to get the HD2 if I wanted to continue using LEO. The blackstone and Topaz have the same RAM, ROM, CPU and screen type. So I know what a backward step it was to go from the HD2 to that Topaz. HD2 doubled the RAM and the CPU
It has the better screen technology (if you don’t use handwriting Rec) better camera CCD and a flash which you need if you want to take indoor shots.
Tougher screen and body.
Bigger and clearer speaker.
So what made you think the Topaz would be the way to go? I don’t understand your logic.
Anyway here are some things you can do to improve battery life.
Install “XT Hack Beta2” and if you don’t use 3G, go to basic and set the Bands to 2G GSM.
Under Optimizations turn off WiFI N, turn off Wifi active in standby and turn on “Optimized battery Life”
You can find “XT Hack Beta2” using “Omarket”

Syrus, 29 Oct 2010Here's what I think about mobile platform. Symbian is dead.... moreOne correction to your post.

The iSO is not the #1 selling OS in the world. The iOS is only on 3 phones which are all made for only one type of market group. And none of the 3 phones are sold in every country around the world.
I don’t like Symbian just like you, I think its ice-age but the truth is…. Every Country that has Cell service also sells way more than 3 phones running the Symbian OS. The Symbian OS is on low, mid, and high end phones. And because of this, even with a drop in market shear, Symibian is still the #1 selling phone OS world wide. iSO can only be #1 in the few countries that officially sell it.

Here's what I think about mobile platform. Symbian is dead. Even Samsung & Sony ericsson have already said bye bye to it. It boils down to IOS, Android, Win7 & Blackberry. Out of 3 ….blackberry is different league….its more like business device and their push email & security is second to none. Whether you like it or not they will be able to hang around.

Then comes to android…….its open source …backed by Google. I do not own any android but extensively played on fren's phone & also used in my hd2. To be honest I do not like it a bit. Android is nth but a Linux version of PC. I used to have linux on my pc as a dual boot. This damn thing is not usable in day to day life. I kept for few months & uninstalled it. I'm glad that I took it off. I do not believe in free stuffs anyway. I do not say linux is bad but its simply pain azz in to work with. I do not underestimate the power of linux ….even google's server is based on linux. Its just like win 6.5 mobile…..need to do lots of extra things to even simple stuffs. There are lots of ppl of boast about having linux as a OS……in reality they are simply trying to show off that they are geeky. Just by saying I use linux make ppl feel that they are great, techy. They install linux as a dual boot and they never use it in reality due to its complexity. What I am saying is …android is open source & free. And there is no such thing like FREE LUNCH. So android will never catch up with apple's IOS. Android will always follow apple's azz. As of today's date………..if you rank mobile OS…the number one is Apple's OS, second is Android, third is Win7, fourth is blackberry.

But my prediction is that WIn7 will overtake android & take 2nd spot very soon. In the end there will be only two mobile big OS(Apple vs MS) competing each other. The rest android & blackberry …simply fade away. I won't be surprised if win7 overtake IOS in 1-2 yrs.

PS: I am not talking in favor of Apple (actually I do not own any apple's product so far)………but I'm really impressed & like their idea & concept about keeping things SIMPLE.

It's been mentioned by Anthony that you need about 10% free space (50mb free space for smooth operation)... Even when I only had 30mb of free space, my phone never froze.... Also certain apps can make the phone freeze because the app may not work on the HD2 like it would on other phones... Only install apps that are for the HD2.....

Syrus, 28 Oct 2010Let me first ask you …did you type that lengthy comments on... moreIf you use more of the PDA side of WM
You would realize that keeping track of visa expenditure and other bills (thing that you would normally do from the home PC) is now something you can do as soon as a transaction are done. Appointments are something you need with you all the time, not in a PC home or the Office computer. That’s why people have appointment books, well this is easier to carry around, I’m not going to forget it anywhere and I don’t have to open it to be reminded of something.

Because I can deal with most thing as soon as it happens right from the phone,
the HP laptop which also has a TV tuner that was for entertainment and productivity before. Is now connected to a LCD TV and is the center of the home entertainment system. It like Google TV out the google TV box

In the office I use Revit to produce 3D models and working drawings.
I am a metric person but some people send in info in imperial units. if I have the 2 monitors covered in drawings its just easier to use the phone as a unit converter, calculator and take small notes that I know I’m going to lose if I put it on a sticky note.

So yes my WM phone is my version of the Swiss Army knife. I may not use all the things all the time, but when I need to, its there for me to use. And in the time I didn’t have it when I cracked the display was frustrating. It just was not the same trying to use a small BlackBerry Curve 8520. So you can understand why I’m not going to upgrade to get less, an upgrade has to gave me more. So a new WP phone is only an option after improvements to it software have been made and the available list of add-on software cant at lest cover the things that I do right now on the HD2.

For those of you who need a navigation app and don't want to pay a monthly fee??? Navigon just released the navigation app for Android... The cost is $40 for the first two weeks (I saw the info on Pocketnow web yesterday), so I assume it's two weeks from Wednesday... After two weeks it goes to $60... You can try it for 24hours, and if it doesn't work you can get refund back... I have Navigon for WM (got it half off then too. Now WM version is $89)... The app works with the Desire HD rom I have... The problem I found is that it gets you within 50yds of your destination at times, instead of saying "You have reached your destination"... But that's not a big deal to me... Also the app has a reality view that uses your camera to give you actual street level view and navigation (you see the actual buildings, activity on the street, etc.)...

If you want it just google Navigon... I would place a link, but sometimes it doesn't work.....

High Tech, 28 Oct 2010For gps navigation I use Navigon and it works GREAT....By the way Navigon uses your gps connection and not the internet or wifi connection... Also the app is fast no slowness when using... Re-route is fast also... Any gps you use without a charger will run out of juice fast... I use gps with my ext battery and have no problems with navigation... But if I'm going on a long trip I will use my car adapter for my HD2 for juice...... I also play music from my HD2 while using navigation in my car... I also run the phone through my car radio system, and use my car system as my speaker phone... The turn by turn voice is clear through my car system as well....

I rarely use my $2500 Sony Blu-ray laptop at home now... Only time use my laptop now is to burn blu-ray movies... Or if I'm creating a database or a big word doc, etc... With the HD2 I can surf the web, create Word, Excel, and Powerpoint doc's. I use Softmaker 2010 (full blown office suite on WM)... As for PIM I use Pocket Informant v9.10 and it works flawlessly...
