Anthony, 02 Nov 2010If you are buying online The only way is to ask the seller... moreAnthony, you can easily debrand a handset by simply installing a custom Rom. Just go to www.xda-developers.com and look in the forums for HTC HD2 Leo, from there just download a custom Rom and follow the instructions in the thread on how to install the custom Rom. Energy Rom is my personal favourite but search YouTube for a more detailed look into a Rom before you install it. This is what I did and the t-mobile brand is now totally removed. There is also what is called a goldcard debrand. This leaves you phone the same it is but just removes the branding and all done from your memory card. Again, search xda-developers for instructions but easily done.

The HD2 is the most customizable handset on the markeg.

Hey Anthony,Any ideas as to when will be CHT V2 Final released? Did you try CHT V2 Beta? Is it better than 1.8.5?

Anonymous, 02 Nov 2010Smashing handset. Almost identical to the new HTC hd7 for s... moreThis is definately a phone. I also had HTC HD2, switched over to desire & samsung i9000 & back to HTC HD2. As for as battery is concerned, pls note that there are options to have the extended battery from HTC & others like mugen power. I have just got the mugen power extended battery of 2600mah capacity. Really an awesome as this battery comes with a extended cover case & a holster as well ! My suggestion is while buying a phone, one must consider whether that phone has the cabability of getting the extended battery. As i personally think that a phone without a extended battery specially the one with big display is useless or like a brick! Look at HTC Desire, while this has the option of better h/w, but battery sucks ! to add to this, the battery design is placed in such a manner that a third party battery will not practically fit... just think.. rgds..

Anonymous, 02 Nov 2010I'm looking to buy a new one soon If you are buying online
The only way is to ask the seller.
I Got it from www.clove.co.uk from there it’s the factory unlocked UK version. (And no I do not live in the UK)
If you are going to a store ask to see the demo version
Then go to settings>About phone>Software information (you will see the full ROM version in there.)
Do a google search for the ROM # and you should find out what version of the phone it is. Then you can go to the HTC site for that country of origin and see if there are ROM updates.
If you have the balls you can even write down the S/N from the back of the box or under the battery and when you go to the correct HTC country web site, test to see if the S/N lets you download the latest ROM if there is one available.

Take my stupid advice, if you have the money, say away from provider Branded HD2’s. The only time I would say go with the Branded one is if you live in the USA and you want 3G usage then you have to get the US T-mobile version. (You have no choice then.)

John, 02 Nov 2010Gee, thanks guys (Anthony, High Tech) im so buying this pho... moreThis is my personal must have list.
High Tech and other list may differ.
Take note that I am using a stock UK ROM with tweaks and modes I have done my self.
              1. 16gb microSD
              2. A good case not so much to protect against scratching but more to protect against shock damage the internal parts cold get from a fall. http://www.amazon.com/BoxWave-Honeycomb-Pacific-version-Crystal/dp/B0007PLUWA/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&qid=1288727950&sr=8-22
              3. DataController
              4. 3.14ROM (if you can’t get this then you need .net3.5 drivers for the phone)
              5. Touch X Longpress sendkey Alt tab
              6. BsB Tweaks 1.6
              7. XT Hack Beta2
              8. Omarket
              9. XDA Market
              10. RemoteControl (its grate if you have a PC as part of your home entertainment center)
              11. Cookie Home Tab and the matching CHTEditor
              12. MMTaskManager
              13. MSS Converter
              14. Midomi
              15. ACR HD (it’s a auto call recorder, some reediting will be needed to get it to work properly)
              16. PHM Registry Editor
              17. Garmin Mobile XT

I have installed other things to change the interface appearance so it can look even more modern and also add more functionally to the phone. But the list above are my MUST HAVE that the phone did not come with, that you way or may not want to get.

Smashing handset. Almost identical to the new HTC hd7 for specs, screen size, look and even the same battery what's coming out, marvelous large screen and a pleasure to use. Currently switching from windows mobile to Android and back again so have the best of what a phone like the desire has to offer but with a much larger and user friendly screen. The only draw back is the battery but that could be because I am running two operating systems. Would also mention that this phone is the only current phone out there which is capable of running the new Windows phone 7, so that would make this handset capable of running 3 operating systems at the same time.

Just to point out that it is very easy to debrand and install a custom Rom so the phone is free from network crap and you have your phone your way through xda-developers. That site is takes phones and make them better. Thumbs up from me.

I agree with Anthony about buying the HD2.. I would also say buy it if you want to play with Android before you buy an Android phone (If you want to jump into Android.. The Desire HD is a good buy... Looks like the HD2, but with Android UI)... Like me I want to try Android for awhile before I jump all in or half in... The HD2 lets me do just that (play with Android to see how I like it)... I like Android some what, but still WM still lets you do more... Android has alot of potential for the future... I'm also looking at the Android Tablets as my next purchase to go along with my HD2... The Android Tab will give me what I'm looking for (better and larger screen, HDMI out, 1080p video, etc)... Looking at a 7" model (small enough to carry around)... Maybe a 10" model??? But I'm going to hold off till the Tegra 2 chips come in 2011.......

John, 01 Nov 2010Hey Guys i love the way you handle issues here.. Pls i need... moreonly advice i can give is...
don't buy a provider branded HD2 if you can avoid that.
                              HTC factory unlocked is best.
buy it in the language you want because changing language is not as easy as changing a setting.
if you only need english, the UK model has the latest ROM.
don't buy any model with a ROM older than 1.66 or has no update newer than 1.66. older than 1.66 is very buggy.
don't buy this just to mod it to Android. it would be better just to buy the desire HD.
this is a windows mobile phone and It's the best one there is.

I also know that Nokia & symbian both by large……….. still the largest handset seller & most used mobile OS. I was only referring to hottest mobile OS in my last comment.

By the way, do you think htc will launch another phone(successor to hd2) with win 6.5?? Or you think win 6.5 is dead by the launch of win7. If htc make hd3 (win 6.5) with htc desire hd hardware specs (new generation snap dragon 1hz & 768 RAM & 1500 mah batter)……it would be awesome…..i will buy that blindly.
