Anthony, 23 Sep 2010It’s a problem I came across just this month. I would not ... moreFollow up...
The unit that had that problem, I had to push in the USB cable and press it to the left and right like when you have a walkman female jack with a short that you are still trying to use, for more than 5min before it went back to normal. And I only realized it went back to normal because when I had unplugged it the back light came off in 10 sec. which was the battery settings it had and not the external power setting it was using when it was bridged.

dan, 23 Sep 2010hi i have tried the brightness thing u said up and down on ... moreIt’s a problem I came across just this month.
I would not believe it, if I did not see it with my very own eyes.
Something is bridging 2 pins in the USB port, making the phone think it is connected to the “HTC HD2 CU S400 Car Upgrade Kit”. Causing it to go into car kit mode. That why it is picking up calls in speaker phone, that’s why it is only following the rules for the plugged-in back light settings and that’s why the screen comes up in landscape. Depending on the model you have the navipal interface will come up.
Others in the forum could tell you I was looking for a ROM with out navipal. this problem is what I was trying to work out.
What is bridging the 2 pins can be so small you may not notice it with the naked eye. It could even be lint from your pocket.
Don’t send it back to HTC to fix there diagnostics will not pick up the problem because there is nothing wrong with any parts on the phone and all they will do is flash your ROM and when you get back the phone it will still have the problem.

Now comes the hard part. This is what I read about the problem after doing a google search and I’m happy to say it did work.
You not going to like this but you have to do it.
Jam the USB cable into the port as hard as you can and rock it from side it side very violently. This will free up what ever is bridging the 2 pins that are used by the car kit and the phone will start functioning normally again. You can also try a can of compressed air and hope that works to free it up.
But until you get it working again, here are some things you can do to make using the phone a bit better..
          1. Install the “Update for HTC HD2 Car Kit Mode function enhancement” from htc web site. This will give you back your portrait mode.
          2. Set backlight and sleep time the being plugged-in to as short as you can. This will save your battery. Because as far as your phone thinks it is plugged in to a cradle.
          3. go into the navipal setting and disable it and restart the phone so you don’t see that interface all the time.
          4. You going to have to put up with having to manual take off the speaker phone from the phone menu ever time a call starts till you get the problem fixed.

Hope this helped and try to get the pins that the car kit used un-bridged and every thing will go back to normal.

didn't you see where the reply said .... Thanks Anthony, the used stoarge is 129.36 and the free is 12.02.
that is what was causing sally freezing.
and most likely causing yours as well unless you still using a old 1.43 or 1.48 ROM because you never went to the htc site to update it.

You have to blame Microsoft for putting hardware restriction on manufactures because they want to standardize the units that run there OS (wanting to be like iPhone.) The less variations you have in hardware, the less issues you will have from 3rd party software :(
It’s a problem both the now winmo and android phone has (clash between OS/3rd party software and the endless versions of hardware to be compatible with.)

xxx, 23 Sep 2010hell all. Can you guys tell me the most stable cooked roms ... moreStability of this phone dose not highly depend on the rom you use.
It more depend on you not installing faulty 3rd party software that was not fully tested and approved for the HD2 and you the user not leaving enough free space on the internal memory for the OS to make swap file. The OS can’t faction without swap file space.
Yes there are faulty ROM but most of the time the fault is you the user not doing proper maintenance. When people say windows mobile is for advance users they are not joking about that.

Ill give you a next common mistake a lot of people make… the phone came with a task manager. Then they go and install there own task manager that runs in the background all the time. Most of these task managers that run all the time have memory leaks that will over time of the phone being on cause the OS to stop when its swap file is full. Forcing you to soft rest to clear the memory.
It’s best to use the default task manager or if you don’t like the look of it, find one that does not need to be running in processes all the time.
                          I recommend MMTaskManger 2.0.100831
In its setting you can tell it not to run in background, you can also set it to start when you long press the send key if you don’t want to set it to a quick link.

Anonymous, 23 Sep 2010Thanks Anthony, the used stoarge is 129.36 and the free is ... moreWell there you go.. That is your problem; you don’t have enough free space on the internal memory for the OS to make “swap files” a.k.a “virtual memory”
Time for you to do some cleaning up.
                            1. Move all your document, pictures/video and ringtones to the SD.
                            2. Uninstall all programs you installed on internal memory and reinstall them to the SD.
                            3. Changes setting of individual programs that save files to default save to the SD.
                            4. Delete crap that came with the phone that you don’t use.
                            5. The more free internal memory you have the faster the phone will run.
If you have too much crap on the internal memory to sort out just back up what you need to keep with the “My phone” software and put the rest on your PC. Then do a factory reset and start with a clean phone. This time try to do a better job of keeping things organized and use the SD more and internal memory less. You can also keep the audio files you use as ring tones on the root of the SD and it will show up in the ring tone list. Don’t use menu>set as ringtone because that makes a copy of the file and puts it on internal memory. It is better to go to the contact you want a custom tone for and add the tone to there contact card or go to sound settings and set the default ring you want from there, that way it will use the file that is kept on the root of the SD (root meaning no sub folders).
