ray, 08 Apr 2010i m an aspirant of HTC HD2...i checked it out and it seems ... moreIt all depends how you define obsolete.

1GHz in a phone will not get obsolete for awhile, and I really mean it especially when the phone comes with a 4.3".

In term of the OS, WM 6.5.x will not die in 2 years from now.

Plus, WP7 simply doesn't offer multi-tasking & copy/paste. It is the next MiPhone.

Look for a real WM replacement in WP7+ (e.g. WP??). So keep enjoying the HD2, and don't worry about WP7 until it can itself some really hard updateS.

When I said data plan. That has 3 parts, 3G is just 1.
There is 3G, EDGE and GPRS. Where I am does not have 3G for cell phone use, so when I’m using Google maps on the road, I use EDGE and GPRS
so to recap the list for internet.

      1. 3G (cell data)
      2. EDGE (cell data)
      3. GPRS (cell data)
      4. WiFi
      5. USB to ActiveSync on PC with internet.
      6. Bluetooth to ActiveSync on PC with internet.

And for those of you that don’t know, GPRS and GPS is not the same thing.
1 is a General Packet Radio Service the other is Global Positioning System and they use different internal antennas on the phone to work.

ray, 08 Apr 2010i m an aspirant of HTC HD2...i checked it out and it seems ... moreA data plan is not needed
But internet access is needed for allot of the things to work.
There are many ways to get internet on the HD2, the data plan is just one.

        1. Data plan
        2. Wifi
        3. USB ActiveSync to a PC that has internet.
        4. Bluetooth ActiveSync to a PC that has internet.

Some people will tell you the HD2 will keep trying to connect to the data plan if you have one. This is true but there are override programs that can be easily installed that will let you dictate when the phone can use the data plan, if at all.

No phone (new or old) is getting windows 7 in the next 6 months, because the next 6m will be October and 7 may not come out till December or next year.

ray, 08 Apr 2010i m an aspirant of HTC HD2...i checked it out and it seems ... moreyou hd2 will work perfectly running just on WiFi, and no need to have 3G, although if you are out and about and want to use the services like footprints of weather, you will incure charges if not built into your plan an allowance of data.

Anonymous, 08 Apr 2010does any one know how to use gps? do i need extra app for that?GPS on the HD2 is hardware. You don’t need an app/program for it to work (because it is internal not an external add-on device); programs use it for them to work not the other way around.
Think of it as you would think of the volume key on your phone... it does not need an app for it to work. Apps use it to adjust their volume.
The phone came with Google maps, footprints, digital compass & Copilot. All of them use the GPS
You just have to go in each program menus and learn how to use them.
Any other program you install that need the use of GPS, will use the phones internal GPS (no setting up is needed,) the most you will have to do some times is to turn on GPS from the installed program menu.

I personally love the phone even more then when i first got it as i've customized mine to a 10 times better phone then when i first got it. :o)

i m an aspirant of HTC HD2...i checked it out and it seems to be pretty cool..however i have two main concerns.
                      1) since HD2 is win6.5 is it upgradable to win 7.0 or in 6 months it will become absolute.
                      2) is data plan mandatory for its functionality in other words what if i loose my 3g single but i have wifi. Will my HD2 works absolutely fine on wifi if i dont have data plan.
Detailed answer for #2 will be appreciated...Thanks

Anthony, 08 Apr 20107 is not an upgrade from 6.5 6.5.3 is the upgrade for 6.5 ... moreAnthony,

I did hard reset and installed all programs again. Its stable, smooth & got rid of all error messages. Only problem I've is ...How to disable weather animation?? I'm using cookies home tab.

I found small apps called battery-time....which is better than 100% battery. You can have both time & battery indicator on the top. You should try anthony.

Btw when we are getting win mob 6.5.2 update? Sony ericsson xperia already got. Thanks

sam, 08 Apr 2010hai antony, thanks and one more question is this windows 6.... more7 is not an upgrade from 6.5
6.5.3 is the upgrade for 6.5
7 is a new OS all together.
and it is still too early to say what existing phones, if any will get it.
7 is not going to come out before December 2010 and by then it should have the much anticipated HD3. so most would want that for 7 and not the then very old HD2.
