I think that it is a very nice phone except for the size. It is a little bit larger than other smart phones. Don't you think so?

Krai, 08 Mar 2010Hi Anthony.Could i see ROM verson by NOT turn on the phone?... moreNo.
the ROM version is not on the box or under the battery. But the serial number (s/n) is on the box & under the battery.
So if you went to the HTC site and click to download a ROM update and Put in the s/n that is on the box, you would know if it is entitled to free upgrades from HTC or if it is a provider Phone that has to get upgrades from the provider.
You would have to do the test with both ROMs on the site to see if it was ok to download any, because not all phone that get updates from HTC have 1.66 for them as yet, but would pass to the download 1.48 and if the phone you see is 1.48 it will not say ok to download 1.48 again but may pass to download 1.66
Only provider phones with provider ROMs and phones with 1.66 already will fail both.

I bought my hd2 in singapore and my rom is 1.48 version. So far so good. I have no problem with sms, camera etc as I already installed hotfix from htc.

I heard about uk rom 1.66 and want to try this. My question is 1) wat is difference between 1.48 & 1.66 version? 2) Do I need to again install hotfix from htc after I flash uk rom 1.66? 3) In uk version, is there option in keyboard to switch to chinese language (i have in my singapore version)?? Thanks in advance for help.

mherzun, 08 Mar 2010Thanks for the reply. in answering your questions, 1. ROM ... moreJust so you will know.
                ROM the internal storage memory
RAM is the internal Program memory.
Programs only load into RAM when you are using them. It does not matter if they were installed on the ROM or the SD, it will still Load to RAM when it is being used.

mherzun, 08 Mar 2010Thanks for the reply. in answering your questions, 1. ROM ... more1.and 2. Are good.
As for 3. When you just press the “X” or “OK” the program does not close. It just goes to the background and is still running and using RAM. So if you did this for 10 programs they are all still running and using RAM. When RAM drops below 20% on any windows mobile phone, it becomes unstable and lags, drivers stop working right, freeze, and when it is real bad crashes.
Use the task manager to close programs you are no longer using to reclaim your RAM.
It is also I good idea to install a RAM monitor, so you will know when it is starting to Drop too low.
You should also know that there are some badly written 3rd party software that have memory leaks and tend to just keep sucking RAM till the phone has no more and crashes. So be observant of the behavior of 3rd party apps when you install them.
(app don’t close when you press the “X” because win mo supports multi-tasking. if you install a task switcher, jumping between open apps can be done by holding the answer key. Just like it is done by pressing Alt+Tab on a PC.

For the people that want to know how to put back on the SPL if you now have HSPL…..
You must flash the phone from the SD card not the PC. This is how it is done….
                      1. Download the original ROM to your PC.
                      2. Use a extraction program to extract the files in the ROM (recommend 7-zip)
                      3. Find the “RUU_signed.nbh” and rename it “leoimg.nbh”
                      4. Copy leoimg.nbh to the root of the memory card.
                      5. Power off the phone.
                      6. Disconnect the phone from the PC.
                      7. Hold the volume down key.
                      8. With the volume key still pressed power on the phone.
                      9. When you see the Grey loading screen, release the volume key.
                      10. Follow the instructions on the screen.
                      11. When it says it is completed, press the reset or remove the battery and put it back.

Note: This method of flashing takes very long in comparison and looks nothing like the flashing done from the PC. But it is the only known way to take off HSPL and put back SPL (that has a copy embedded in the digitally signed ROM).

treblin04, 07 Mar 2010to Anthony, yes, already have the rom.Download and install the HSPL from the PC with the phone in sync mode.
Once that is done you will be able to install the ROM from the PC with the phone in sync mode.

if it is 1.43 that is the first think you have to fix.
how much free ROM space do you have? if less than 30mb that is the next think you have to fix.
do you close your programs with the task manager or just the "X" in the program?

Brilliant phone, what more could be expected of it. It is not to big and if it was any smaller it would be impossible to type without a stylus. The only thing which has slightly annoyed me is battery life. However if you keep data transfer off and use it normally then it will last for nearly 3 days. If you use it like a laptop it last about a day, which i can understand. Considering how cheap it works out on some virgin contracts then it is a real bargain and is far cheaper and superior to the iphone.
