it is not even 30 day from when the problem was first reported. you say it is just 1s and 0s. you think that makes it easy?

Software is ones and zeros. If there is a problem with the camera it could be with the camera sensors or the way pics are interpreted by the camera software. Now something that would bother anybody is that HTC has made 5mp cameras before and the OS hasn't changed much. Basically, it seems that there are manufacturing defects in camera sensmrs. If it was a software problem they could have just released a patch.

Do you know that drivers change from phone to phone that is one of the reasons why you can’t use the rom that was made for one phone model on the other model?
And i know you know... that a bad driver can mess things up to different levels and different roms could have different drivers. and digital cams use drivers that are in the rom.

F01, 26 Nov 2009Hmm, perhaps YOU should listen to logic, Anthony and while ... moreDid you disassemble any to know it is not the same?

Did HTC tell you It is hardware or you read that somewhere? Did you even read it on the official HTC site? Do you believe everything you read anywhere on the net?
I only said It is software because people are identifying the problem by rom number and not S/N batch (all the phones do have the problem)
And after writing HTC and clove which is one of HTC official dealers “where I got the phone” I was told it was a software glitch and I can wait for a hot fix if I like or send it back.
How many roms have you flashed, original from HTC or cooked from XDA? I have done them both many times.
Do you know that when the HD would lock up for 3-5 sec now and again, people said that was hardware problem? Not all the phones had this problem. It was later fixed by HTC with a hotfix. I know this because I was one of the people that had the problem and got the fix on the support page of HTC UK.
Until you open one that is working good and one with the glitch and see the hardware is not the same. You are in the same boat as me. And I’m not talking about owning the phone.
You choose NOT to see where I’m telling people that don’t already have the phone to hold off on buying it till a fix or a recall is announced. Just like you choose to hold one to saying it is hardware without opening one yourself.
What I’m saying to the people that already have the phone is…. don’t jump to conclusions just yet because it could go any which way. Because you could send it back and get a next one just like it. There is no way of knowing till you turn on the phone. There was no rom or IMEI or S/N batch announced by HTC as being the faulty ones.

Anthony, 24 Nov 2009Listen to logic... it can’t be hardware if “High Tech” is g... moreHmm, perhaps YOU should listen to logic, Anthony and while you're doing that perhaps you could answer a few questions for me:

                  1) Could you start by telling me how you know that you and "High Tech" have the same hardware and that the only difference between the phones is the ROM?

The only way you could know that is to disassemble both phones and do a part by part inspection ensuring that not only are the components physically the same (inc. same batch) but also that any embedded code on any chips is the same.

Manufacturers constantly change the production process and change the components used without changing the model numbers of the final device. These are silent changes.

                  2) Could you please let us know where you and "High Tech" bought your units from?

We don't know anything about the HTC production line or lines or even where the final ROM is installed. In many cases electronics are shipped from the point of manufacturing to regional distribution centers in blank packaging with a default ROM/Firmware on them and the local country packaging, plugs, manuals, software, etc is shipped separately.

They go from there to the local country offices/warehouses where they are then set to be country specific and put into their retail packaging. My point is that you can't infer anything from your ROM revisions.

                  3) Different problems seen when using different ROMS could be indicative of any number of things including a failed attempt to fix the problem in software (which could be why they went on to say it was a hardware issue) or possibly just a side effect of an unrelated change to the firmware which affected the "pink" issue (from reading the Engadget review it seems that the camera has/had other problems besides just the "pink" issue).

                  4) HTC themselves said that it was a hardware issue and I believe them. Considering the loss of consumer confidence in the product, the damage to the HTC brand and the overall cost of doing a recall do you really think that HTC would have allowed anyone to have said that unless they were sure that it was a hardware problem? They aren't new to this and will have a set of procedures in place.

Now it seems that they think that they can fix it in software but they aren't sure when. Well good luck with that. Perhaps they can but I've seen this sort of thing with digital cameras before and sometimes it can be fixed and sometimes it can't fully be fixed (via software).

In addition the problem with a software fix for some units followed by a hardware fix for others (assuming they actually do fix the problem in hardware) is that all future versions of software for this device will have to contain the fix too (and be able to differentiate between models), which can lead to all sorts of other issues down the road. Sometimes early units have to go back to the manufacturer for certain firmware upgrades while later units don't (due to different hardware).

**NOTE** That I am assuming that we are talking about a change to the ROM when we are talking about a software fix rather than a re-flashing of some integrated circuits, which would probably have to be done by HTC themselves and which I am leaving in the realm of a hardware fix.

                  5) If there is a software fix via a ROM upgrade how will this affect future ROMS produced by third parties from vanilla sources e.g. all the ROMS cooked by the Chefs on XDA-Developers? Does this also mean that the HD2s without a H/W fix can no longer be upgraded once HTC stop releasing official ROMS for it?

                    1. The sound without the headphones is loud but is not in stereo.

                    2. No it is not really buggy. I have one real bug right now and that is a “pink hue” that some people are getting on their pictures they take with the camera. So if you want to buy you should wait till you see a fix for that on the HTC UK site just in case you get one of the bad ones.
The part about “windows showing itself digging in deeper” had nothing to do with bugs, it just does not look as nice as Sence UI and you have to dig quite a bit to see it. Or when you install some old 3rd party software that looks are just like the old wm5 or something.
                    3. There is no such thing as the “perfect phone”. If there was there would be no need to make another phone after that. So stop trying to find that unicorn.
if you looking for all fun & games buy and Iphone. this phone has some fun & games but more work related.

                                  3. You THINK you are not stupid, but you really are

No offense really! But it does not make any sence.

About the HTC HD2: I was really sure I wanted one, but today I read the first not so over the top review about it. The biggest problems bothering me are the following:

                                  1. Is the sound (not using headphone's..) good? It is important to me, and I get mixed reviews. Again, some people say it is very good, others say it is really sub par. MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

                                  2. Is it really that buggy? The HTC SENSE UI hides the 'ugly' parts of WM6.5 OS, but sometimes WM just shows it self when digging in deeper in the menu's.

I have a weird curse on me for buying wrong phone's. It started with a nokia, have had a samsung, SE, etc. All normal phone's. Then I bought an iPod touch, and the smartphone world started growing. Then I had the BIG choise between an iPhone and a Blackberry. iPhone being to similar to an iPod touch, i went BB. Good phone.. not so fun though.

Now I am searching for the perfect phone, this offcourse not having android makes that dream be very close. That's what I want to know, is WM so bad? How is the marketplace? A lot of free apps?

Hope someone that actually owns or has used one can answer these things for me!! :)

                                  Thank you
