Anonymous, 10 Sep 2009Hi Guys
I am new here but hope to contribute if possible... moreHi,
I watch a lot of mpeg 4 video's on my G1 which can't be slower then yours ;) else take it to a repair centre.
What i use is IMtoo mpeg encoder, available as a download for free. With that I convert avi or divx movies to mpeg4 resolution 352 * 240 and leaving all the other settings on automatic. And every movie i've downloaded so far works great, no lag or stutter and still high quality. The movies are only 500-600MB after conversion :)
I hope it helps, good luck!
Cheers from an android fan

So I got a Hero the other day. Its pretty cool but I agree with the reviews... its underpowered. Most stuff is fine, but video playback is very poor. If your looking for a phone to watch your downloaded series or a film dont bother with this phone. Im debating keeping it really. Its funny because htc must have tried it and realised but kept quiet about it. The flash playback is weak but kind of watchable. The bbc feed is watchable too. I dont want to make comparisons to THAT phone but I will . THat phone plays back video real nice and the hero can not compete in any way. Well rant over. hehe .

Hi Guys
I am new here but hope to contribute if possible.
Regarding the HTC Hero and judder / choppy video play back: I have been struggling to find a solution to this as well, I have tried various video formats and configurations including adjusting frame rates (15,20,24,25,29 and 30) bit rate (96,112, 128,192,256 and 384) video codec ( H264 / mpeg-4 ) and frame size ( 320 x240, 352 x 288, 480 x 320 ETC ) but nothing I have tried works.
I have spoken to HTC help desk twice ( very poor service HTC... you need to do much better) and they just avoid the issue saying that the HTC Hero will play proper Mpeg 4 files providing they are original and not generated by a 3rd party programme. I have tried several different programmes but the main one I have used for years is Any DVD Converter Pro, and even these does not generate a file that can be played back on the Hero smoothly.
Yesterday I download ( and paid for ) some apparently proper Mpeg-4 films in a suitable format to see if they worked.... guess what... still juddery / choppy video playback
The good news is the image quality is superb and the sound is just great.... just need to resolve the video stutter.
Today I have ordered a SanDisk 8GB Ultra Mobile class 6... microSDH card as I have read elsewhere on the web that this the solution to choppy video on the Hero. It should arrive later this week and will post an update as soon as I have tested it.
If anyone has some other advise or suggestions.... please post.
Cheers
Carl

On the real, not the best, but ok. The default player does not handle formats like xvid and such... Hopefully, coreplayer will be available to android devices soon

How does th... morewhat they say on the review is not true, they must of had a dodgy phone. the play back runs smooth. display and quality is great.
the video record could be better, but the quality is quite good for 3gp format.
overall the phone is great once you start downloading apps from the app store/market you will be hooked.
you can spend hours on the device. they should recycle the iphones to make more htc heroes

Google is a threat for the democracy - yes really. Moneyhats here and spionage there... there're worse than Microsoft and Apple combined! Maemo is still the best mobile OS, though.
