Sensor sensitivity and MP both matter and HTC ignored MP part. Apart from issues with bigger prints, you cant crop your photo out of the group. As camera have no optical zoom, digital zoom of 4 MP will be an issue.
Also they have increased the aperature size, this would mean photos will be not sharp and will be soft. One has to see all aspects rather than only bigger pixel size dubbed ultrapixel, resolution matters also.

its not mega pixel its ultra pixel it is three time more clear then other cameras

Heelllooo read the specs ppl a 4 mp camera with 3 senzors one on top o each other each of 28mm lens it's way better than a phone with 13 mp camera did it not seem funny to you that a 4mp camera can record full hd content on @30fps well thats because htc offers the new tehnology ultrapixel captating 300% more light in photos so in other words this phone is my next buy in march i can hardly wait :P

They have yet to make Camera sensors the Ultra Pixels technology beyond 4! However the picture quality of the HTC One beats every cameras of other mobile phones, 5, 8, 12, 13 MP!

Sara, 24 Feb 2013300 percent more light cannot make it 12mp. It still remains 4MPit will take better pictures tha 12 MP camera the only problem with this cam is when u will try to print the pics to poster size then the pic will distort.

The reasoning behind the 4MP Camera is the actual pixels are bigger, which in turn allows up to 300% more light into the photo. The bigger pixels also make the 4MP camera shoot pictures as good as a 12MP.

it's really a 4 megapixel camera guys but it's an ultrapixel camera which is more than any 12 megapixel camera phone in market

The trade-off? Megapixels. The One's camera is a mere four-megapixels, which the company admits is a risk compared to the eight-megapixel standard, and the 13-megapixels and up of other flagship devices.
But HTC is right when it says megapixel count is not the most important factor in a camera's quality. Instead it's focused on the 'size' of its sensor's pixels, which reportedly allow 313% more light than those on phones like the Sony Xperia Z. It can also record 1080p video at 30 FPS.
