Ok, so I got this phone some two weeks ago, I'm not super experienced with smartphones, but the overall feel I got from it is pretty good. So far it did feel hot on on one occasion, when it was on navigation for about 40 minutes. The software in it seems to have a few weak spots as well, as it doesn't always ask for the unlock pin when unlocking it, also when somebody's calling me it displays two different answer/reject screens alternatively and also the way the home key, back and menu buttons slide on and off the display makes the phone a little bit awkward to use for me. Other than that, it is the best smartphone I've had so far.

After all i have found that this phone does have an ir blaster but lollipop doesnt seem to be supporting the action. To find out if there is an ir or not yoi have to install any 3rd party ir controlling app and start it. If any notification showing "htc connection service running" cheers you have ir. I think we have to stay with lollipop updates to fix these issues..

Having just bought one of these myself, I found that it comes with Sense 6, not 7, but I just received the updates in the Play Store. Strangely enough, while the Sense Home version is 7.12, the Sense version in Settings -> About -> Software information says 6.0.
Also, I have received an update to Android 5.0.2.

I have been using the M8s for a bit now. Several weeks without extreme heating. Hot weather and my phone rises about to 40-41 degrees Celsius. With extreme use a bit more (about 2-3 degrees Celsius hotter). Personally i find it a very comfortable phone. With my personal use of phones i have no issues with overheating.

I must warn the people that like to game on portable devices (which seems stupid to me, but that is just my opinion. These machines aren't made for such tasks). The M8s had a max temperature of 56 degrees Celsius while benchmarking a couple times (on 32 bit mind you). Above 50 degrees Celsius once isn't too bad for the battery. But if you keep going above 50 it will brake the built in LI-PO. This is a problem that occurs to the new Snapdragon 615 chip who is still in development. Although it is really fast (i still got within the top 10 score even though next to the benchmark my other apps were running too) you have to watch out for CPU stressing. The metal like design dissipates the heat even worse making it a bad phone for games. For those who look for a phone with such capabilities look for a 32 bit processor chipset. Those are much more effective in heat dissipation and or generation.

With my average use however the phone has a recorded average temperature of 28,2 degrees celsius (19 day and 20 hour record period with temp app).

All in all the phone feels sleek, is fast, very easily adaptable to your own liking. I use a go launcher personally to set my own preferences instead of blinkfeed. Though blinkfeed wasn't bad, it was just not my preference. The ones wanting to aces social media and other trivialities, blinkfeed will be a gold mine for you. The standard UI of blinkfeed homescreen is easy to configure.

The futures like for example motion launch, is a very handy and neat function. Being able to unlock the screen by swiping instead of pressing the button on top (which in some reviews is seen as a bad thing.) is really very handy. Swiping in different directions will activate different functions of the phone when unlocking.

The sound quality is as I've experienced before with HTC. It sounds just great. Also the speakers mounted on the front side of the phone are really very nice giving a clear and direct sound. Unlike a lot of other phones where you have to hold your hand below the phone like a cup to get a decent effect. The in ear plugs you receive together with the phone in the standard package are very good as well.

So far, i could reach very good battery times. Might even be able to run with the phone for two days sometimes. When using intensively the battery drains fast. But that's like any other smartphone i have had in my hands. Very good built in saving mode to stop half of the processors and shut down other elements to save up power from the battery.

The camera is very decent for what i am used to. It can become a bit blurry sometimes in low light conditions even with the second special lens. Though the quality overall is fine. Also, when truly making photo's or pictures of something you should not use a mobile phone anyways. A small pocket camera will do the job a thousand times better than any mobile phone guaranteed (if you have a good camera of course.). Some older cameras with less pixels even make better pictures than mobile phones.

One complaint that i encountered so far: Flashlight stresses the CPU out pretty much. Using a flashlight for long periods actually heats your phone a lot. This is the only complaint i truly have about this phone. Either way i never use the flashlight for very long so that won't be a big problem either. But still, i found this quite silly.

One other concern (even as an engineer in training/schooling) i am pretty nervous about replacing my battery if that would ever be necessary. The LI-PO battery is built in and really really very very hard to reach! It takes strong nerves and a bloody strong focus for inexperienced hobbyists to actually being capable to repair their phone. Although i won't back out of this since it will be my future job (sort of) it still bothers me. Be very sure about your choice if you don't mind fiddling around in your own electronics.

Though the rest of the build feels so sleek as i said before. A strong phone with a very nice weight to it. seems very decent to me. Advised to buy screen protection, like a case or something. This counts for every smartphone nowadays. Screen brightness is really good, and the glass is reasonably easy to clean. the screen doesn't become very dirty quickly in my own experience. And if it does i only need one wipe with my sleeve of my shirt or sweater

                    Conclusion:

I am very happy with the phone. I am happy i chose this phone through the company and hope to use it for the next couple years. I am a careful user. I have NEVER broken a smartphone before. The overall quality feels very 'finished'.

                    The phone comes standard with:
                    USB cable
                    USB charger
                    In Ear plugs
                    Manuals etc.
Rubber protection case (not the front screen. Backside only)
(may be different in some countries! I am not aware of HTC's selling tactics in other countries)

                    Cons:
                    Built in battery
                    Repair ability
Capable of overheating with extreme usage (CPU stressing)

                    Pro's:
Good battery life (on avarage use without intensive games/gaming.)
                    Good build quality.
Fast performance. (in my own experience)
Simple ergonomic futures within the UI:
                    Blinkfeed for social apps.
                    Motion Launch.
                    Good sound quality

                    Apps i use:
                    2way brightness
                    An Tu Tu benchmark (32/64bits)
                    BatteryBot
                    Clean Master
                    Dropbox
                    Facebook
                    Whatsapp
                    Go Locker
Temperature Guard Free (warns me when the temp gets to high. Never happened. Only with the benchmark)
                    Notities
                    Next Launcher
                    Music Folder Player
                    Advanced Task Killer Free
(and a bunch of other apps and some simple games like Arknoid or something like that)

got this phone yesterday and from moving from an iPhone 6 to Android I was sceptical, but must say it was a good decision and it's slowly converting me to Android.

Would recommend this to anyone and everyone the only downfall for me is poor battery life.
