Use frama root. Its a one click root app for android. It will root your device and install super user automatically. Hope this helps.

for the battery heating...sometime it might be like that just becuz of using ur HTC one s when it is on ur charger this damage ur battery....
if it'snt that u have to format it bcuz they might be other undesired damaging file installed in your HTC one s
