                      From the HTC Europe Website

                      Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
                      Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
(Band frequency and data speed are operator dependent.)

yeah, really, before you start whining about why there are 2 versions instead of one...such a big dilemma.

Anonymous, 07 Jul 20083g is to make video calls.3G Stands for 3rd-generation. Analog cellular phones were the first generation. Digital marked the second generation.
3G is loosely defined, but generally includes high data speeds, always-on data access, and greater voice capacity. The high data speeds are possibly the most prominent feature, and certainly the most hyped. They enable such advanced features as live, streaming video.
There are several different 3G technology standards. The most prevalent is UMTS, which is based on WCDMA. (WCDMA and UMTS are often used interchangeably.)

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2008i really really don't know what the hell the htc engineers ... moreFarzad was trying to say why build two versions of the same phone when you can just build one phone with all the bands together.

                                        Instead of

                                        2G Network
                                        GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 for Europe/Asia
                                        GSM 850 / 1800 / 1900 for Americas
                                        3G Network
                                        HSDPA 2100 / 900 for Europe/Asia
                                        HSDPA 850 / 1900 for Americas

                                        have it

                                        2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
                                        3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100

This way you can just make one device instead of having making two types.
