yournews777, 07 Jan 2010This HTC TyTN (also called Orange M3100) is a great phone (... moreX2!!! *Applause* :)
I couldn't agree more!
* The only difference is I use my gps receiver in my pocket (not on my hand) and it still works.
Have you considered using a "ribbon" around your neck?
Carrying it on the hand, may even become dangerous. *
Anyway, I find an external GPS receiver does NOT suffer from the lag other phones with "integrated" GPS Receivers.
It's MUCH more accurate.
I've compared it several times with other people's (newer) phones.

This HTC TyTN (also called Orange M3100) is a great phone (I even prefer to use it than the Nokia E71 I've bought!).
But let's begin with it's 4 negative points :
*the RAM is low (only 64MB) so you'll notice big lags if you install one of the cooked ROM available on xda website (for example the Windows 6.5 ROM or any TouchFLO Rom). So the better is to install the basic Windows 6.1 version and do not open more than one software on the same time!
*The second negative point: at least once per week it'll bug and you'll have to do a softreset... Anoying but it's the same with ALL the Windows phone (on this point the Nokias smartphones with their Symbian software are much more stable !).
*The third negative point is the absence of an internal GPS (but in my car I use it with an external Bluetooth GPS and it's great ; but on foot it's annoying because you'll have to handle both the TyTN and the Bluetooth GPS device in your hands...).
*The last negative point: it doesn't have a standard 3.5mm jack but a unique USB slot for charging the battery and the handsfree kit. The solution : to buy from Brando website a specific extension cable including a micro that will allow you to use any headphones and at the same time recharging the battery.
NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT IT'S POSITIVE POINTS !!!
*Very tough device: it falled down a lot and it's still working !
*Its mechanical keyboard is just wonderful when you want to write SMS, email, or even tchatting on Messenger (by the way I advice you to try Palringo, the best free multimessenger on mobile phones).
*eventhough it's camera is only 2 Mpx it takes superb pictures (a lot better ones than other 3 Mpx phones as the Nokia E71!).
*the jogdial on the side and the Dpad on the front : very useful.
*you can use on it without any problems a GPS software as TomTom or Garmin Mobile XT (of course you'll have to buy an external Bluetooth GPS).
*its flash is top as a pocketlamp !
*so cheap now on the second hand units market!
*it's a Windows phone so you can install a lot of free and useful softwares ! You can visit the xda website and you'll see how many things you can do with a Windows smartphone and specially with a HTC one !!!
Here's a list of FREE software you HAVE TO install on the TyTN in order to enjoy using it and that will work without lagging :
*Total Commander (the best explorer for your files!)
*PocketCM ImageViewer
*Calendar+
*pBar
*PPC Pim Backup (to backup and restore your Windows phone in just few minutes and very easily!).
*iContact (very good phonebook!)
*Opera Mini 5 beta 2 (the best browser!)
*Palringo (the best multimessenger soft!)
*Google Maps
*MSS Converter
*Skype (to send SMS at low cost!)
*MO-Call (international calls at low cost!)
*Midomi (it'll tell you the name of the song played on the radio or TV in few seconds !)
*Kinoma FreePlay (a multimedia soft)
*MIDlet Manager
*MyStopWatch
*Pocket Forecast
*PocketCM Keyboard (much bigger virtual keyboard)
*Skyfire (a web browser)
*Windows Live
*Facebook
*YouTube

I've also hadone for more than a year without any problems so far.
Battery life could be bette Sure, but it's still better than many current models, so I guess I won't complain. ;o)
It's a great reliable phone.
It has great sound quality, video call, WiFi, Infra Red and Bluetooth!
What more could you ask for? What more could you need?
Very happy with mine.
And I sure don't intend to spend money on a new model soon...

Been using it for more than 1 year, and still very satisfied with it. Never have any major problem with it. Wifi still works well, HSDPA internet connection works well, phone call never be a problem, casing still looks okay (unlike lots of those hi-end nok** phones which the paints' easily peel off). The only drawback is it's RAM & ROM capacity is small to be compared with today's most mid to hi-end PDAs. Oh yeah, and the battery capacity too, wish it could last longer. But anyway, still love the phone!!!

Izaac, 26 Nov 2009Is it possible to install WM7 on this?
Had a HTV Magicia... morewindows mobile 7 ISN'T available, yet!
Not until next year... no certain realease date up to now.
What you've got for newer models is an upgrade to your current TYTN OS (WM 6.1) which is WM 6.5.
SOme of the newer models as the Diamond2 may update their ROMS officially.
Brand new phones are being sold with 6.5 already installed, but I believe that is "too much" for the HTC TYTN.
As far as I'm concerned I've seen some 6.5 ROMS available to our TYTNs, but I've read reports they're slow and use too much RAM.
I like my phone as it is. :)
I'd stay well away of that (WM6.5) if I were you!

This is the best phone I've always had.
That's why I still keep it and use it daily.
All the features I need... Not a problem so far!
It truly stands the test of time.
It is worth every vote it gets, so why isn't it on the "Top 15"?

Manya , 12 Nov 2009Can I install a GPS in this phone ?
I love the phone and I... moreYou can install ANY GPS software that runs on Windows Mobile:
TomTom, Route66, NDrive, IGo, Route66, Co-Pilot... you name it (actually, if the memory card and your wallet i$ big enough... you can have them ALL!)!
You just need to buy a GPS Receiver that will "commnunicate" with your TYTN via bluetooth and will serve as "antenna".
This is what my experience tells me:
Pros: You'll get much LESS lag (i.e. a much more precise location) than when you use other phones with internal receiver/antenna.
Cons: You'll need to take the GPS Receiver ALWAYS with you.
No Receiver = No "LIVE" GPS.
Anyway, the software you'll install - even without your receiver - will work!
That means, you can still visualise maps, plan trips, check distances, etc.
Obviously, you won't "be guided-as-you-go" as you travel and you won't get real-time positioning.
Try to check the software you prefer, the one that has better maps, etc.
Don't forget you may have/own MORE than ONE Software on your phone.
You can prefer Route66 in some areas and TomTom (no Ad intended!) in others, even abroad.
Easy: Just install both and run the one you prefer depending on your location/planned trip.
