my favorite phone is back.

(so your suggestion will not work) the port on the HTC U/ULTA/PLAY is truly digital for audio, not analog on a USB-C port. so for 3.5 headphones (which are analog), they need the adaptor to have a DAC to do the digital - analog conversion and that is what the HTC branded adaptor has.

      I never heard about Sony doing thing like that, this is news to me but even then that seems to be minor enough to ignore. Certainly lot better than HTC, LG or Samsung .

          I've always had HTC phones, they are solid physically and performance wise, I'm writing this on my m8 which has taken a beating over the years but the screen has never cracked.
          Obviously 3 years on and it's time for an upgrade and the u11 was a cert until I found out its missing a 3.5mm Jack. I can't live with a phone with no headphone socket, no matter how good the supplied DAC connector is, that should be built into the phone regardless. I don't wanna have to carry around a connector everywhere I go for it to break or get lost. I don't just use the 3.5mm for headphones, it's for plugging into stereos too and I can guarantee I won't have it with me when I need it the most.
          If I buy this phone, that connector situation is gonna piss me off too much...
          gutted they've done this :(

A gaming laptop these days needs 16 gb maximum, but 8 gb is more than enough in almost all cases. Cell phones don't need near the power a gaming PC or laptop does. 4 gb will be plenty for the next few years and who, that actually uses their phone for gaming or higher powered apps, does not upgrade every couple to few years anyways? I just pre-ordered the U11 after having my old phone (Motorola Moto X) for 3.5 years. This phone will also last me 3-4 years.

The U11 in the U.S. is $650 and you can enter a coupon code to make it $600 (about 536 Euros). Since Euros are still worth more about 8% more than the dollar, I am amazed they would be priced that much over there. If they are really charging that much over there, can't you just order an unlocked phone from the U.S. and use it in Europe?

                  samsung fanboys are really dumb..they really dont have sense of "substance" they are mostly after "design" -bezel this, bezel that-
                  Anyway..gud luck with samsung S8.. this section is for HTC U11 lovers, would "U" mind buzzing off to "U"r S8's section coz we dont come to "U"r comment section and pass negative comments? Please "U" also do the same and do not come here to pass poorly judged reviews / comments about my device.

                        As for Apple they arent factor anyway, since I am only interested in Android.

                            O. and don't buy apple too. because they give some of their customer's intel chips and others Qualcomm chips and they know the Qualcomm works better.

It is much lighter than whatever Samsung is calling lag Wizz now. every tech-head knows that. so what every you getting for time on the S8 battery you going to get more on the U11

Since a year when lot cheaper phones than HTC released and had 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage.

                                    HTC knows that they cant get away with inferior hardware in Asia so they get a proper phone, while EU as usual get the gimped version for the same price! Is it any wonder that HTC almost went bankrupt with this kind of policy before?

                                    Now let me explain again when you pay sub 500 euro, you might make compromise on the hardware, but when a phone cost more than 700 euro you expect the very best, unfortunately HTC fails hard providing inferior hardware to EU.

                                    Also your logic failed, you might not need 6 GB RAM but I need, this is like providing worse display to a region and saying " most of user cant make difference between displays anyway"

                                    I wouldnt be surprised that EU version probably gathered from the worst quality parts, and probably the lacking RAM and Storage the first of the many shortcoming of HTC phone. I would never trust a discriminative company which thinks that outside of Asia customers are sheep.
