Anth0ny, 02 May 2018could you post a link to the adaptor you are using? I would... moreI don't know if mine was similar to this on the aliexpress website, but it look exactly the same, just minus the brand marking. Mine was non-branded, can't tell which brand I own, just a plain common OEM type C HDMI adapter. The product did look very cheap, but it actually works. For charging, it charge at very slow rate, mind you if you keep plug and unplug, it won't charge properly. Need to keep connected for about 3 to 5 minutes for the ampere to leverage. Mine with original charger, and tested with OEM QC3.0 charger settle at 5V, around.0.9 to 1.1 amp (tested reading actually fluctuate a bit).

Tested just now with a Huawei Mate 10 Pro from a friend, and it did launch the EMUI Desktop as well. So, this generic adapter do work with Samsung Note 8 Dex mode (Exynos unlocked version tested) , and Huawei EMUI Desktop on Huawei Mate 10 Pro. For HTC U Ultra, it just have the option to mirror the screen. (Samsung Note 8 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro do have option for screen mirroring)
I have compared the quality of the HDMI output from my HTC U Ultra to HTC Connect (Android Miracast) via Wi-Fi, the image quality from HDMI is so much better, without any compression in signal, no signal drop or lag what so ever.
I don't know which country you are from, suggested you buy from local store, which you can return if it doesn't work (read at many place not all people get it works, and they do claim some just don't charge) . This purchase from me is just trial error purchase, where all my local smartphone shop don't has this kind of setup to demo.

If I turn off that device (actually an external HDD dock, noise maybe generated when HDD spinning), then no more signal lost. Others issue actually is quite minor by the way.

I think all of us has different condition with the phone.

Nilco, 02 May 2018I have wipe the cache partition, no luck, these problem remain."O" Well, what can I say.
just know the problems you mentioned is not normal, on this phone and I have had mine from March 2017.
and if a factory reset doesn't fix it, then you have defective hardware.

This one just cost around USD 10. Unlike what you mention, I plug in the original charger, I measure the voltage and ampere, I do get 5V/1A charging. It doesn't detect QC 3.0, but do work as normal charging. The HDMI and USB A works flawlessly. Surprisingly, this cheap adapter can turn my friends Samsung S8/Note 8/S9 into the Samsung Dex mode, and also turn the Huawei Mate 10 Pro into EMUI Desktop. Well, as long as I don't play high graphic game, the charging is the normal speed charging. Play high graphic game will make the charging very slow. However, this HTC U Ultra only can support the normal screen mirroring, detect my TV and output at highest 1080p/60hz mode.

Then, I restore the Whatapps history, other chatting apps record, contact list, and sms. For others storage stuff, I keep in Micro SD card. So I just copy everything into Micro SD card and direct plug into the new phone. Then I start reinstalling almost all the apps that I installed on the previous phone, those game progress are saved by Google Play Games, so I just need to reinstall the games. Then, after 2 days, I receive the Oreo updates, then just update from there.

Anth0ny, 26 Apr 2018the display issue you mentioned sound to me like the phone ... moreWell, I'm not pinpointing it is an issue of Oreo, because I am using this phone not long ago, and Oreo is updated 2 days after the 1st start up. It may or may not of issue of Oreo. In all respect, everything works just fine, except those minor issues that I mention. The screen actually is not flicker or what, it just having some kind of "screen refresh" after the phone is unlocked. It maybe a good idea to wipe cache and restore to factory setting, but I'm lazy to do that because I have installed plenty of apps. Anyway, pretty much an underrated phone. It is more expensive than an S7 Edge when it is launch, but now it's pricing are reaching the lower midrange level, that even much cheaper than most of the midrange phone from other brand. For those on a budget, this is the phone to get, even though it is not with 18:9 screen ratio, maybe some thick bezel for some, and the annoying missing 3.5mm jack.

none of what you mentioned are known problems with this phone on Oreo.
but you can still try clearing your cache partition then factory resetting and manually reinstall your apps. don't use an old phone backup.
if you still have the problems after that. its an issue with the hardware in your unit.

This is one of the best price per performance ratio phone out there, that even beat the price of Oneplus 3T and Xiaomi's own Mi5s/Mi5s Plus.
The only problem will be the missing 3.5mm jack, which is not included in the box, but I have bought one original HTC branded USB C to 3.5mm adapter for around USD11, which works on this phone, and also tested works on Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
Some weird thing observed, the WiFi connectivity is not stable on Android 8.0, there is always disconnection happen in the middle while using. Then, when charger cable plug in, and I go to Google Playstore to download or update apps, the download cannot start until I unplug the cable. Then, some weird thing on unlocking the phone where after the phone is unlocked with fingerprint or lock pattern, the screen flashed white for a second.
Some weird thing also happen like when I take out the SIM tray and insert back different SIM card or Micro SD card, the whole screen went black, then bricked. I have to push the power and volume- for a while for the phone boot into recovery mode, and choose "restart" option to recover the phone.
Maybe someone can enlighten me on these issues. Or maybe those are known issues that need the next software updates.
Try to get used to the secondary screen where some time it will turn on certain thing like Bluetooth and Camera while putting the phone in pocket, suspect is due to the secondary screen feature that can simulating some touch when it is accidentally turn on.
