    andrew, 07 Feb 2020No google apps suck cannot do anything, Whithout google i c... more? you know, you can access google maps from any device that has a browser;
    if that device has a GPS module = pretty much any android phone (or USB GPS plugged in), and of course drivers and software that will allow the browser to use location....in that case you can open google maps in a browser and use it just like on an android device; i see no problem here;
    the only reason you can not use a desktop PC for maps directions, is that the desktop has no GPS module

    not having google play, which Mate30pro has, along with all apps, does not limit you in any way, you will just have to bookmark all websites and use bookmarks instead of apps

            If this one have a 3.5mm jack, I will consider it as a replacement for Samsung phone.

                          turns out it's not my thing.

                          btw that 'Quote' i posted in my previous comment to what you now refereed to, this came from gsm arena website that i also linked there....unless i got your reply wrong...and i do understand what it does, i even explained it..., unless you think some software puts random pixels somewhere, it's not coincidence, it's math.
                          Also '48mp cannot gain extra details because of higher res using on a small sensor', let's say the AI recons a straight line, but at some point the line gets blurry on the pic, wouldn't it make sense to assume some pixels and make the line continue until the distance to the object is so extreme that the line can not be seen even with a naked eye?
                          Well, it won't be that extreme as creating a line where is none, but few pixels here and there and the pic already looks better ;)
                          And if the software or AI can't assume anything, why does it over sharpening happens at all but not always?

                            - U should know what youre buying. Funny that one usually test & hands on first on the phone before purchase.

                            'So, really these 48MP Quad Bayer sensors can’t offer much more detail than a 12MP sensor.'
                            - U should understand more about it. 48mp cannot gain extra details because of higher res using on a small sensor, with small micron pixel size. Main purpose of Quad Bayer are the pixel-binned res, which 12mp are the optimal, while double up micron pixel size. In your case, u should just stick using 27mp, not 108mp. The higher res are just for bragging rights & 'marketing' tackling. The same goes to Huawei's 40mp.

                            'ask yourself how an AI can assume something, how do you think face recognition works?'
                            - older camera dont have any 3d sensor, but still can do face recognition. My point is all that are computational photography, which needed on a smartphone camera because of the hardware limitation. Your Mi Note 10 are no difference, just without using 'AI' naming.

                              Shui8, 20 Jan 2020Look at this. - https://m.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_11_pro... moreI actually bought it, and sold it few days later as i was very disappointed, especially so that it has no volume button, to add something that i think irritates me even more, is the extremely curved screen...is useless
                              i got myself a Xiaomi mi Note 10, which as a phone is a failure, except that it does some good pictures....if there is enough light.

                              Now back to the topic, even gsm arena posted stuff about that...fancy thing you mentioned https://www.gsmarena.com/quad_bayer_sensors_explained-news-37459.php

                              Quote:
                              "So, really these 48MP Quad Bayer sensors can’t offer much more detail than a 12MP sensor. Sensor and phone makers alike will tell you that smarter demosaicing algorithms can capture more detail, but our experience is that the gain is small – if there’s a gain to be had at all."

                              like i said, this pretty much means, the AI assume things, let's say, 75% of the pixels that were put there bcoz of an algorithm fit to the picture, that is still a quite good ratio.
                              And i can tell you if all pictures had at least 75% or more , even a DSLR camera could not beat this phone.
                              Well, i don't really need to read this, why would i need it if i understand how it works?
                              Another example is up-scaling videos - these days common, and they do a similar trick, they add noise and then filter it, by coincidence the noise overlaps with same colored pixels/group of pixels making them more 'sharp' ; the re result is a smooth video that may be lacking some details but overall quality is better.

                              Of course, what mentioned is post processing of the picture, things like colors(saturation), contrast, levels, like i said, most of it is used for videos, those are but filters,
                              but adding pixels(noise) based on an algorithm and then de-noise it , that is no filter.
                              And if you ask yourself how an AI can assume something, how do you think face recognition works? In this case the 3D version of face recognition has the answer...you can google it, my replay is too long anyway.

                                Even the reviewer said Iphone 11 produce oversharpen photos. The 'hair' on brush u mention just a ringing halo around its edges caused by excessive artificial sharpness added, which is actually an artifact.

                                By your definition on pixel-binned image, clearly you have no idea how Quad Bayer sensor works. Go study. And i dont have any idea how you suggest AI works on object shaping lol. All it does are just boost some color vibrancy, contrast, DR & WB mood base on the scene taken. Even if AI turned off, it still produce superior photos.

                                Finally, when u said about differentiate on sensor size, clearly Huawei takes the advantage of it since P20 Pro, Samsung just catching up this year while Pixel & Iphone still sticking with small sensor. Even in previous P9 & P10 which using small sensor, it still superior than any Iphone on that time.

                                And I own Leica Q & Fujifilm X-E3. The closest details quality that identical on a smartphone no doubt are Mate 30. Do you own any to begin with?

                                  Shui8, 19 Jan 2020What do you mean? A normal Autofocus at work? Iphone (start... more:) you actually linked and mentioned what i said, but you still don't seem to understand the idea, that google phone has just 16MP sensor, mate30pro has 40MP, now does the pic from google phone looks 2 times worse? No, it doesn't! Need to mention some pics have been resized to 10MP for the comparison, if that was the case with Mate30pro i can't tell, but the phone does pics @40MP, it can do that, and if you won't display it on a 4K screen but on some 1080p, you will be able to tell difference only if you fully enlarge the pics;

                                  as a side note the 'pixel-binned' method is also used by software like paint or photoshop to resize pictures, other software uses it to encode videos, it just grabs the closest pixels...so this is nothing new,
                                  and if you take a closer look and compare the pics from the link, you notice that mate30pro pic is smooth, on the iphone you clearly recon brush hair, while on mate30pro it almost looks like an AI assumed some of the shapes :) yes it did.

                                  Finally, the trick is not using a sensor that is as big as the phone to achieve pics with good quality until you enlarge them, the trick is, getting good pics at full resolution of the sensor and still being able to enlarge it without losing too much of the details - for that a bigger lens is necessary,
                                  and that is the reason google or iphone have this quality of the pics, bcoz with same sized lens using a smaller sensor makes more sense :) bigger lens = more light on the sensor = better pic. at the same time you need more distance from the sensor, and as you guessed by now, on a 8mm thick phone it's the limit. So a thin phone can not have a big sensor bcoz it makes no sense.

                                  Well , let me rephrase it that way, would huawei use 16MP camera instead of 40MP it couldn't beat google, it could at best get same quality.

Iphone (starting 11 series only) & Pixel does wonder as well, but not as good as Mate 30 does. Do u realize Mate 30 after pixel-binned captured in 10mp, which is less pixel than both Iphone & Pixel, still did a better job?

                                    Take a look at this:-
                                    https://m.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=9885&idPhone2=9846&idPhone3=9895

                                    All i see are the dowside of Iphone are oversharpening, while Pixel higher noise even at base ISO level. Thats are the limitation of using smaller sensor, Mate 30 clean look with details being retained does an amazing job as it uses bigger camera sensor & big pixel size.
