Huawei teases spectral image sensor for Mate 70 series

Michail, 20 November 2024

We’re less than a week away from the Huawei Mate 70 series announcement, and the teaser campaign is in full swing. The latest piece to the puzzle details an important camera development that may shape up to be one of the key upgrades on the new phones.

Huawei will bring a dedicated spectral imaging sensor dubbed “Red Maple” to its Mate 70 series phones. The brief teaser video shows the new sensor in action alongside a few samples highlighting natural color rendition.

Unlike traditional red, green, green, blue (RGGB) color sensors or red, yellow, yellow, blue (RYYB) on past Huawei phones, spectral imaging modules can gather more color data, leading to improved color accuracy, natural skin tones and better shadow preservation.

It seems that the new sensor will process image data and it could very well be paired to a dedicated imaging chip but we’re still guessing here as Huawei did not share any additional info. From what we can make out the new sensor will work in tandem with the main, telephoto and ultrawide sensors to help with color processing.

The video also has a few samples from the Mate 70 Pro+ and its Ultra Chroma XMAGE camera system, showcasing vibrant colors and well-preserved highlights. We expect to see more Mate 70 teasers in the days leading up to the official launch, which should shed more light on the new spectral image sensor.

you mean "illusionary" right?

yeah the xiaomi 13 pro is a camera gem, if xiaomi could've fixed the battery i'd have bought one but their phones aren't worth it imo, they aren't as consistent as Vivo or Oppo either but when Xiaomi's phones take good photos...

Talking about the soul, I really like the results of the Xiaomi 13 Pro on the Trough Jermaines Lens review.
