This phone is out there for a couple of weeks and deserves a detailed review:
I bought this phone in Singapore Airport duty-free to be used as a business phone. Price is about USD 115. Overall I think I made a great value deal and I'm very happy with it.
However the beginning was a bit difficult. The phone was lagging, certain applications crushed and I could not access certain sections of the settings. I started a software update and the phone got stuck while loading the bootloader. I thought I bricked the phone. Finally it turned out that the microSD card that I inserted in the very beginning is defected. After removing the faulty SD card the software update successfully completed and all problems are gone. I installed a brand new class 10 microSD card (specifically: Samsung EVOPlus 128 Gb) and now everything works smooth and fast. All the below is after the software update and using the new microSD card.
What's in the box:
You get the phone, the charger with micro-USB cable and earphones. There's also a transparent plastic pop-in case in the package. The earphones are not adjustable by size, they are the older type plastic ones.
The phone body:
I have the blue version. The display pane is plastic that comes with a pre-installed screen protector film and has a front camera, an infrared sensor and something called "Smart Selfie Butterflighting" (???) . The back pane is a matte blue plastic and hosts the camera and the flash as well as a secondary microphone (I guess for background noise reduction). None of front or back panes seem to collect fingerprints or other dust. The frame around the front and back panes seems to be made of metal and it's shiny blue. On the left hand side there's the single tray for the 2 nano SIM cards and for the microSD card. On the right hand side there are the volume buttons and the power button. On the bottom side there is a speaker, the primary microphone and the micro-USB slot. The top of the frame hosts the jack slot.
The camera pane rises a bit over the back panel, I guess this device was designed to be used with a case (that also comes in the package). Overall the phone doesn't give a feeling of being cheap at all.
The inside:
I ran Antutu 3D and it gave 45933 points for this setup. The weakest part is the GPU. Clearly this device can't run high end 3D games but it can do run average games (see later). Nevertheless CPU performance is acceptable and RAM performance is much better than I expected from this phone (Antutu gave a score very similar to the Huawei P9 for RAM speed).
I tested WiFi with Speedtest by OOKLA. It went to 50 Mbit/s download and 20 Mbit/s upload that are my limits with my internet connection and highly enough to stream movies and music. The phone actually may be capable for even higher speeds.
Storage speeds are tested with A1 SD Benchmark: Internal storage Read 36.91 MB/s Write 58.35 MB/s; External microSD: Read 67.35 MB/s; Write 33.84 MB/s. These values highly depend on the quality of the SD card, I used a class 10 card as mentioned before. This speed is sufficient to record full HD videos.
Usability:
I tried the Netflix app to play movies via streaming. I also tried to jump to different parts of the movie several times. It all worked fast and smooth giving the same experience as on my Dell laptop.
I enabled Face Unlock. It works just fine. I found that moving the phone a bit up and down while it's trying to identify you helps a lot to recognize the face. Background light is bad, don't stand against the sun.
I tried the game "Ships of Battle: Age of Pirates". This game work well on this phone, no lagging.
The phone comes with Android 8.0 Oreo and HUAWEI Emui. This is the newest software available featuring the new Google Assistant with voice control.
I also noticed the lagging that other people mentioned and investigated as much as I could. It all seems to come down to the battery power saving features of the software. When I wake the phone after a longer sleep period it takes 2-3 seconds to come online. If I try to open the camera directly from the lock screen after a longer sleep period it takes 6-8 seconds. However if I unlock the phone and lock it again then I try to again unlock/open camera it works instantly. It gives the feeling that after some time like 30-60 minutes the device goes into "deep sleep" to save battery time and it needs a few seconds to "come back". Overall it's acceptable, you just need to be aware of this and if you need to capture a photo in less than 10 seconds unlock your phone in advance.
Battery life is another interesting topic since it's one of the selling points of this device. I found that in idle state the Y6 consumes very little energy. By far the top consumer is the cell standby and not the system or any applications as in the case of older phones. After about 12 hours the phone is at 75% charge with average usage so I think it can survive 2 days with careful usage and even 3 days with power saving mode.
Summary:
Pros:
+ Price
+ Android 8 Oreo
+ Large display
+ Sound CPU and RAM
+ Sound Wifi and SD card handling
+ Good battery life (with the default settings)
+ A LED flash and a good speaker
Cons:
- Weak GPU for 3D games
- Small storage of 16 Gb, you need a card extension
Verdict:
I would buy again for sure. For USD 115 or 6000 pesos this is a great value deal as a business phone or a usual phone for not an extreme gamer. However an SD card extension is needed in all cases in my opinion.

Good thing, when I brought my y6 to their customer service center, they offered me to swap it with a y7 prime (2017 model). Though the store where I've purchased it is willing to replace it.

I purchased a Huawei Y6 last Friday because the sales crew convinced me with his sales talk and it was getting late already that’s why I availed it. Unfortunately, when I was about to use it the day after I purchased it, the camera phone hanged. The phone storage is 16GB but the apps that I have downloaded were three only. I got confused why the phone consumed almost 12GB that resulted to lag. So, I returned to the store for the replacement since it got a 7-days warranty and it’s not yet due. They told me to bring the phone to Huawei service center to get a technical report so they could replace it with a new one. Then, I went to the service center and waited for 1½ hours. I thought if they are going to replace the phone with the same unit. The same issue might happen again to the new phone. They have found out that I am planning to upgrade the phone to Nova 2 lite. However, they offered me to swap it with a Y7 Prime unit (2017) that’s worth 10K. Take note, they’re gonna replace the phone with no additional cash. So, I checked the phone specs and it’s not bad. The phone specs are good. I asked them, if they are going to replace the unit with a much higher unit with no additional cash whatsoever, what’s the catch? They told me that there is still no update for the Oreo OS and that’s the reason why the phone is lag. They said the same thing might happen if it’s gonna be replace with the same unit.
That’s it. Just wanted to share it with you guys to try. They said that they are willing to replace the phone as long as it still in the warranty date and got the technical report from the service center. So, I’m very happy and satisfied with my Huawei Y7 Prime model.

The camera is the weakest link. I agree, it hang most of the time. The iPhone 5s camera has better resolution than this.
