After reading the reviews I thought my K-jam is going to be a really bum phone. All wrong!! It took half an hour to set up two email accounts and dial-up connection. It took another half hour to install the active sync software and syncronise with my PC. I haven't had to reset the phone once. To use the K-jam to improve productivity rather than playing games all day is a winner. It's fast enough, and stable enough. Can anyone tell me if they've installed Echange Server 2003 SP2 in order to receive 'push' emails? I see its quite a file 103Mb. It it stable and worth it?

Can anyone tell me if the K-JAM comes with Pocket Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). I've checked this site and imate.com, and it only mentions Pocket Office with the imate JAMin. I'm having a difficult time deciding which of these to phones to choose from for my upgrade, which is happening this week. Your input would be great, thanks.

Don't buy one! What more can I say. Having purchased a Qtec 9100 when they first came out, mine has spent more time being repaired than being used. I purchased a I-Mate K-Jam as a direct replacement(again made by HTC) and guess what, this has also spent more of its life being repaired than used. I still currently waiting for both units to be repaired!!! 6 weeks and counting....

        Hi Dug

there is no extra software needed. It is a setting in the phone. turn on the camera and change the setting with the little arrows to photo. click on the settings button and go to capture size. here you have the different settings. Pick scaled 1600*1280 for 2mp setting then start camera. Once this is selected you will see the 2mp setting in the bottom left displayed instead of the 1mp setting. Enjoy.

Lots of useful tips and tweaks if you google

            FAO Dad

I was looking at the two models you are looking at. I choose the K-Jam due to finding a bargain on ebay £215.

With respect to the jamin it does work in landscape mode also. The beauty of the K-Jam is the moment you slide out the keyboard it auto rotates for you.

It's really a trade off the keyboard is great. i use the keyboard and stylus method but for texts email and word it sure makes a difference. I don't like the keyboard for numbers as i have to use the shift key so i use the stylus for that. The Jamin will weigh 10g less and be a bit thinner? so it's up to you. if you are gonna put the k-jam on a belt clip don't worry about the weight or thickness. They are the same os and build more or less. The jamin will give you a 2mp camera but the k-jam software allows you to boost to 2mp too.K-jam comes with a flash light on the camera and also a self portrait mirror. The k-jam also benefits from having two speakers over the jamins one. Sound is louder and in stereo.

Processing power at 200mhz people automatically think it's slow. It is and it isn't i have no problem performing what i want to do the only time i struggle is with game emulators like gba etc. Many people moan about skype but if you disable 3 of the codecs in the registry it works a treat in those wifi spots.

Can it do two things at once for your business needs. Hmm depends on how much free memory you have and what this little program you wamt to use needs to run. get a storgae card and install as much as you can on there. don't put unessary rubbish on and you shouldn't have these eating away at your program memory and be able to do what you wish. every time you install something do a soft reset it really helps.

Get some good today plugin there are lots of free ones and lots to try however i went for resco file explorer it access what i need fast and has a small footprint. It shows the free program memory and when it looks a little low you know there is lots running and have the option to close them down.

Great tool. I really like it and i think i made the best choice. If money is no object buy the latest HTC model hermes as it address all the issues people have with the k-jam but at a whopping £570 price tag.

              Help Guys.
My 14 yo son reckons that the Jamin will suit my purposes but being an old fella (50) I feel the keyboard on the KJAM will be better as I don't have the dexterity that he has and find that the onscreen keyboard a bit hard to use. It is very small and I feel more comfortable using a physical keyboard. Also noone can tell me if the JAMIN will work in landscape mode.

I have a school distribution business and have a customerlist in Excel with 20 columns of products and when I want to enter an order on the fly I feel I need landscape mode to quickly enter the details, numbers only, and maybe a comment in the last column.

I have 2 offices. The one at home and the one in the vehicle. It is the mobile office that is the disaster with bits of paper eveywhere and notes written on paper during a phone call and then can't find the note 5 hrs later.Hence the IMATE.

I am looking at using blue ant in the vehicle and assume I can answer a call and record a customer order on the IMATE simultaneously. Tell me I am being reasonable.

My usage is low level Excel and a bit of Word so feel the slower speed of the KJAM won't be a problem.

I have appreciated the forum although sometimes I think you guys are too demanding. Remember 90% of people only use 10% of functionality.

              Many Thanks

I had one for 3 days and took it back they replaced it but the new one was the same, the most annoying piece of rubbish i have ever had the misfortune to own. It constantly needed resetting, never woke up when i was called. didn't inform me of incoming texts. In the end i spent more time waiting for it to boot up than using it. Needless to say I have sent it back.

I think there is so many conflickting problems on here because:

NO.1 you dont use it properly

NO.2 you dont put what network you use it on because they all rebrand the phones(a problem you have on O2 you might not have on t-mobile)

No.3 you dont store things on the memery card.

No.4 you dont close files properly after use.

NO.5 You dont delete messages and emails.

                      Hope this helps :)

I have had mine for a couple of weeks now and it's great.

It has handled every program i have thrown at it. I have skype working i used the low cpu download. worked ok but i tweaked the registry and now it's perfect.

I bought mine brand new of ebay for 215 and all i can say is what a bargain.

It does run slow if you don't free up the memory but this seems to be a windows 5.0 problem where apps don't close by clicking on the X.

Keyboard is great i never used to text anyone coz i hated using a tiny keypad now i text everyone and use the full message length.

Only thing i dislike is the case but thats replacable.

I run mine with a 2 gig sandisk card which i also got off ebay for 35. seems to be ample storage for all my apps, some music and docs.

The design is great, small and light enough with some well postioned buttons. Wifi is great too. I have tweaked my buttons to open what i want and also tweaked the wifi card.

Overall it's a great phone/pda. make sure your running the latest rom. Optomise it for what you want (just google) and you will have the perfect device.

I rate it 10/10. For those of you also looking at the Jamin thats what i had in mind it's a tad lighter and thinner. is the keyboard worth the extra weight and thickness yes. I was going to get the jamin but got a bargain on this one instead.

                          Enjoy

Hi, bought my K-Jam two months back, I must say thats it's a good device, although I must agree with some comments that the device can be slow (not very slow) sometimes due to it's slow processor and not enough RAM/ROM. It could have been improved alot.compared to price and device specs I would give it 6.8.

I have had my KJam for 3 months now and I can truly say that it is AWESOME!!! I am sorry that some people are having difficulties with their units. I can only imagine it must be user error. I have not had a moment's trouble with mine. But then again, I am careful what I install and I know how to use it. Highly recommended and very well priced. SUPERB 8/10.

Safe your money. Don't buy. This is the least to say about this device. I don't know which competition did i-mate entered when they provided the market with K-Jam.The device has a very low peformance due to its 200MHz processor.Poor memory managment, especially when you install extra MB's."JAMs" alot, and a restart is a must.Poor photography.Poor design.Unreliable touch screen.High price.

Don't buy it at any cost. The K-Jam is packed with great features but the processor just can't handle them being used. It is so slow, it is impossible to make calls, don't listen to the people who say its fine - it really isn't. When it does make calls - it starts calling numbers you didn't want and won't stop. It takes 20 second to search and find a contact if you have more than 1,000 contacts, which does your head in. Skype never worked on mine and the 'online' customer support was too swamped to give any advice. It crashes regularly. You have been warned. Steer clear.
