the keybord is small and useless.
the VGA is COOL but the colour depth 64K is sucks.
the audio is nice the camera is very bad with 352X240 video record.

Hello All,
I will receive my 9502 in a couple of days... I'm so excited. I here a lot people on different forums comparing this phone to Nokia "N" series, come on this are two different platforms. Nokia is media first, I-mate is productivity first (my opinion). I have a Nokia e61i and Imate Jasjar I would not dare to compare or say one is better than the other because they are on two different platform(OS). I would like to see forums compare this phone to the htc 8925(tilt),imate jasjar, imate herald, htc diamond duo,htc 6800 and the vario then I would care about some of the reviews. I really don't care about watching movies on my phone that is want my zune is for. The market is flooded with devices that are designed for high schoolers and college freshman(media minded). I want more from a phone I-mate and HTC has given that to me of the last 3 years. If I was 5 years younger...21 then I would want a dumb down phone....since I am not I do not waste my time if it is not linux, windows, BB, or palm. Oh yeah I am selling my Nokia E61i...lol (it is not for me). Don't get me wrong I have had Samsung, Nokia, LG, and Motorola (still have E680i and A780-Linux base) and if you believe that there are some great non media phones out there please share. I am only sharing from my own personal experience.

this is a very nice device.
however!!, the one thing preventing me from buying another is the dreadfully small telephone touch keypad.
you need two hands to dial a number.
one hand to hold the phone, the other to hold the stylus.
not great if you need to input a number quickly.
come on i-mate, pls fix this.

Liam, 15 Jun 2008I have had my Imate 9502 (on Oz Telstra network) for about ... moreSorry just noticed couple of typo's in previous post.
With SD in it reboots (after hard reset) WITHOUT Telstra rubbish. Vanilla Version, went to imate site to download the Telstra access settings.
WITH Calligrapher handwritten input much better than Microsofts Transcriber.

I have had my Imate 9502 (on Oz Telstra network) for about 3 months now, for the first month it was painfull
- Running slowly
- Need for constant resets
- Memory rapidly dissapearing
however I made the decision to hard reset it. What I found our is that if there is an SD card in it (which there was) when it rebooted it reset with all the Telstra rubbish that semi-locked the device to the Telstra portal (you had to switch the Telstra proxy off previously to use IE on other sites or use WiFi!).
Unbelievable difference, soft re-set once week now to recover memory leak (Windows problem)I have SPB Mobile Shell sitting over the top and I must admit this is one of the nicest phones I used in a long time. Still a few shortcomings.
- Battery life one day with moderate to heavy use.
- GPS great but needs external 12v to spare battery.
- Camera can be flaky
- 2Gb SD sucks!
The VGA out works suprisingly well and teamed with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard I have a fairly good mini notebook. Without Calligrapher works well for consistant written input.
Would like to see a few more peripherals for this phone like a docking station that also charges a spare battery, although I think third party peripheral manufacturers will focus more on the big sellers Ipones , Nokias etc.

Guys, when you look at the specs of the HTC Touch Pro and the I-Mate Ultimate 9502, which one would you prefer and what would be your reasons. When doing this, please do consider the specs explained in both of the Brands Websites in terms of functions and customizations.
Am seriously thinking of either the two and I can't make up my mind, since I need to upgrade my Phone.
Your comments and suggestions here are welcome very much.

Hi All,
I purchased my 9502 (with a view to use it on the 3 network) 5 days ago from a local Melbourne person who had put an ad for it on the Gumtree web site. It's Telstra branded with Telstra' logo at the back and a few Telstra apps installed. I'm currently using my Telstra prepaid 2G SIM on it. Here are my experiences with the phone:
1. Went to the 3 shop to enquire a plan. The guy in the store inserted his SIM (of 3) in my phone and the phone didn't get any signal. He said the phone wasn't compatible with the 3 network! I had to leave the shop without getting a 3 SIM card.
2. Internet doesn't work with Wi-Fi. It connects to my home wireless network but there's no data activity. I'm yet to determine if it's a prob with my home Wi-Fi or the Telstra apps (like Telstra Proxy Manager)that are pre-installed.
3. Got the GPS working with TomTom6 last night. Followed the instructions given in the forum: http://forums.imate.com/m_1817/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#2218
4. Installed TCPMP (formerly Betaplayer) ver 0.72 RC1 and tried to view a .AVI movie and found that the video was choppy and played almost frame by frame. From the players options I found that the movie with 24FPS was being played only at 5 - 7FPS with 90% of the frames being dropped. This discovery made me extremely angry as my old i-mate PDA2K EVDO CDMA phone (used only as a PDA now with the Telstra CDMA network shutdown) plays the same movie flawlessly.
5. Windows Mobile 6 freezes occaisionally.
I still haven't gotten around to try out the VGA out functionality with the phone.
I would really get my money's worth if I could see the following changes on the phone:
a) Ability to read SDHC cards
b) Better video driver(s) or the ability to play DivX movies without choppy video
c) Ability to upgrade the OS to WM6.1
The phone though being heavy in the pocket feels weightless if worn around the hip and is alright (so far!) apart from the above issues.

andy, 03 Jun 2008hi, im thinking about getting the 9502,but concerned about ... moreGPS chips are there but as there is no software - no navigation capability - Sensis (whereis) is expeted to release mapping service in a few months. Until then it just adds weight

I have a new 9502 - 2 days old
was sold on ability to use internet over 3g AND through a wifi connection
But it appears Telstra has actually tried to lock down use of IE to their network. They certainly will not provide any support for connecting to internet over wifi and direct you to imate who are confused by the fact that it appears you cannot change settings as they would expect.
At this stage I would have to suggest that using wifi for internet is Not an option.
