Exynos 2200 launch reportedly delayed

Peter, 11 January 2022

Samsung Semiconductor was supposed to unveil the Exynos 2200 today, but leakster Ice Universe reports that the launch has been postponed. Indeed, the original tweet that pinpointed the January 11 date has been deleted from the company's official Twitter account.

According to Korean media, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S22 series on February 8 with sales set to start on the 24th. Last year, the Exynos 2100 was announced on January 12, the S21 series arrived two days later, so there is still time to unveil the 2200 chip before the S22 series goes live.

It seems that the Exynos 2200 launch has been delayed

Even so, such last minute changes in schedule suggest there is trouble behind the scenes. The Cat points to the Exynos 1200, a mid-range chip that was rumored to launch last year (in November, allegedly). It showed up on several benchmarks powering the Galaxy M33 5G and A53 5G, however, neither the chipset nor the phones have been unveiled.

And now the 2200 is the second chipset launch that Samsung has had to push back. Will the Exynos chip be ready in time for the Galaxy S22 launch? The better question is how many units can be produced – a potential chipset shortage will cause limited availability of the new flagships. Still, there is about a month before S22 units have to be shipped to stores, Samsung still has time to iron out the issues.
