Hi, I have been cursed with a LG LU500! Damn Telstra and their lies and crap phone system.
The software does not work.
The battery is has a shorter life than heavy drug user.
The manual is erroneous
It will not accept a 2G MSD Card
Its a cow to use.
To add insult to injury its infiltrated with Telstra propaganda that assaults you every time you open the phone.
Its Garbage! But what you can do? T has a govment supported monopoly and there are simply NO options for us out here in the sticks.
Cheers, Mike

Not a bad phone. No battery life issues, however it only works with certain brands of microSD card under 1Gig (sandisk works).
Can't see any instant messaging function at all.

I cannot believe that I come to LG's defence, as I generally do not like their mobile products, but the TU500 (Australia's Next G version) has been great. They are reliable, reasonably tough, and has the best coverage compared to any other Next G handset.
The two people who have complained on here about the TU500, you sound like you have had a few dud's, and it happens. You have to understand they are manufactured on a mass scale, just like all electronics these days. But in general they are pretty good.

Alright heres the bottom line about the Lg Cu500. the signal is great.. everything works great. the camera is awesome. the external music buttons are awesome. It doesn't take 2 gb memory cards yet. it has a micro sd memory card slot. you can only use sandisk memory cards with it. that is very important. the battery life isnt all that good. other than the battery life and the memory card problem the phone is great

Yes I've been burnt yet again by Telstra. their NextG service is crap.
- Less coverage than CDMA
- LG TU500 phone is very poor
- Problems with TU500 software
- Very poor battery life with TU500
- Can even reply to a Telstra Memo SMS without going through 4-6 keypresses due to crap software, I've been using Mobiles with this service for over 10 years (& probably about 12 phones) and NEVER have I had such a back usability.
Next G is extremely disapointing & certainly Telstra should be strung up for the lies about "Coverage Everywhere you need it" .

Ksax yes you should still be able to exchange the phone under the warranty provided by the company. If you have Cingular they will ship you a new phone to use while yours is being repaired or just send you another refurbished phone. Where if you go through LG to do it you dont get a replacement during the repair. They attempt to fix your phone and if they cant they also send another refurbished phone to you.

Very wonderful phone. As for the 2gb Cards they will hopefully be supported in the next firmware release. The new firmware is also supposed to allow for video conferencing between the phones. Hopefully they will add the feature to get rid of the asscending ringtone! Well anyhow, great phone.. now we just need the 3G network coverage in my area for faster downloads it would make the live tv even better!
If you have cingular you can checkup on your firmware to see if its up to date at:

Good luck and enjoy your phones!

I ordered the phone from Cingular on Tuesday and received it on Wednesday. Not even 24 hours. There are a ton of features and I probably won't use them all but it looks like a great phone.

This phone doesn't support 2GB microSD cards yet. It only supports 1GB for now. Maybe when a new firmware is out it may allow 2GB cards.

I've had this phone for several months now and love it. The only thing i do not like is the inability to turn off the ascending ringtone.
I just recently got a 2gb Sandisk MicroSD card for it, but it keeps telling me that the card is not ready when i try to access it on the phone. I have a ton of MP3's loaded to the disk already, so i know the card is functional. Is there something i need to do?

I just got this phone about a week and a half ago... it's amazing! I love it. Very fun, bright screen, awesome photos... the only thing I'm a little dubious of is how, when the phone is shut, it wiggles a little - but I guess that's completely normal, because if it didn't, the hinges would be too tight and it wouldn't flip well (so I'm told). This phone has amazing downloading speeds - my cousin has a Samsung (also from Cingular) and it doesn't have 3G speed... when she downloaded a ringtone, I was amazed at how long it took her phone.
Needless to say, I love this phone! No problems so far whatsoever. Yes, the ascending ring can get annoying, but if you put the volume on say, 3, it limits it to a certian extent (at least from what I noticed). The sound is also amazing! Very, very clear... the only thing I am bugged as it that the USB cable is only compatible with Windows.

No the phone does not come with a data cable. Yes, you can use mp3's as ringtones. I just got this phone for christmas and I love it. It's simple to use yet it has many options.
