RBF, thanks for the reply.
The reason I'd like to get rid of Facebook (and the other bloatware) is that I don't use it so I don't want it on my phone. I realise that LG may help keep the cost of the phone down by baking apps into the firmware for which they get a small payment for.
All I'm really after is a PAYG phone with a decent sized screen, at a good price, that'll play video, music and allow occassional surfing on the web and occassionally send/receive email...and make phone calls....which the GT540 does... but I don't want to be an active part of 'the cloud'...I'm happy to leave that to others.
I guess I resent having apps foisted on me that are deliberately difficult to remove. But each to their own.
But it's still a good phone :-)

First, thanks to rfb. I've spoken to LG about their android 2.1 update for this phone, and all i got was the sound of scratching heads, beacause, ;the technical bod isn't in today;
As you know, i've been going round in circles for a few days now. (i'm as technicaly proficient at computers, as a fish is at football)
so have downloaded all req programs, but when it comes to update download, it won't gather the info, stating that there may be a problem with the internet line. it goes through the analisis part, phone connections, etc. starts the download, and after 5 mins of nothing, kicks it out. Any ideas? coz i'm banging my head at the moment. it may well be me, but i've followed all instructions. HEEEELLLLPP!

I think the Samdung kn08 is a better phone
It also comes pre-installed with the Cyborg 3.2 OS.

Open Menu, and go to Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Google Apps.
Select "Clear Data".
You should either get a notification, to update the account, try signing into the market, or go to data synchronization on your phone, hit it, and it should ask you to update it.
Reboot the phone, job done.

I have no need for Facebook on my GT540 (updated to 2.1). I like to remove it completely and permanently from the phone. Is this possible?
From what I've read this seems impossible to do without rooting the phone. And rooting looks way complicated...and I'm not sure if it solves the problem in 2.1. anyway.
Thanks in advance,
Ricky

Google maps is free, as long as you use wifi, otherwise, you will incur data charges(unless you have a tariff that has a data allowance).
There is a modded one, which lets you store map tiles on the SD card, so you can use the Google navigation for free, with no data connection, as you download prior to travel, but again, Google Nav will cost you if you have no data allowance on your tariff.(and it can eat through that quite easily.)
As for camera quality, I don't and never really used my phone camera, as i have a seperate camera that i use.
There's not really any phone camera that's great compared to a "real" one, but for quick shots, it's pretty good.
And this camera is no different, fine in normal to bright light, useless is dim to dark surroundings.
The 2.1 update gimps it slightly and makes videos poor quality, and IMO, slightly ruins images too.
As to comparing it with different phones, that's up to you, and for you to find out and compare with each other.
Me personally, decent phone + decent pocket camera is far better relying on a phone/camera, and works out about the same price if you shop around.

That's Google Maps Street view, and it's still pictures of street level maps..you get it on Google Maps as standard, it's not a video, it's a slideshow of sorts of a low level map, so you can go through maps at street level, just like on the pc!
