You should check with your phone dealer or the LG websites or even google search generic terms. If you do the upgrade properly...there will be no problems. Me and RFB have already upgraded to v2.1 manually.

you can download themes from android market.
first you have to install ADW.launcher.
On your phone menu look for Market and search for ADW.Launcher then install it,
after installation search the market for the theme you like and download it.
back to your menu look for Home Selector and change it to ADW.Launcher.
