i acquired this phone just one week ago. Currently it have so many dead pixels! Also had a hard time for the unit warranty replacement.

Sorry..get the LG drivers installed and run as Administrator in 7, and it will work..
You don't need it now, but it does work..

Used Windows 7 and LG Utilities. KDZ Updater does not work.

Mine never failed, lots of other's haven't either, but I am not responsible for any mess-up's..
I have outlined the exact steps I took and TBH, the pc I did it on, runs XP, and isn't a great pc..its just an average home built pc, that really needs an upgrade..lol :)

Lots of bug fixes, much improved speed, and some changes, not only on the phone itself, but in app performance too.
The benchmark nuts say that they have improved the speed, so if they like it, it must do something right.

It is an official release, just not for everyones area, and I guess delays will be had with networks adding their own crap to them.
You know what, I much prefer this one, as it has no crappy apps on it, its very much a clean rom.
I did think some things were missing like the Alarm clock, but it's not, it's re-designed, so is now in the "Clock" app, and is much improved too..
With the same apps on my phone, as before 2.1, I now have an extra 15meg of space, so they must have removed something...lol.
It also runs faster than my 1.6 did when new, and has new transitions for menus, and comes with live wallpapers, so apart from limited languages(English, some Balkan's and Korean), it's perfect.
A quick text to o2, and they sent me my settings, and all is good again..
And to top it off, wifi now works with hidden networks..woohoo!! ha-ha!

Can anyone explain to a no-nothing like myself exactly what the benefits are of updating to 2.1? My Gt540 seems to do everything I want as it is, what exactly am I missing out on??

This rom is un-touched..no network anything.
It installs fine, with no issues.
@ Aiba,
Voice support is 2.2 only now..Google changed the rules a month or so ago.
You can get voice search, with maps, or Google itself, but as far as voice dialing, etc..it's gone.

For peaksake LG, and all other manufacturers for that matter (looking at you Sony Ericsson..). Deliver what you promise to your customers. I want my eclair, I need voice input support etc etc.
