Yes, if wifi is either OFF, or not in range, it will use mobile internet and ur operator will charge you.
But if you go into Settings > Wireless controls and UNTICK the "Mobile Network" box, it will disconnect from mobile internet.
That's what i set my phone to almost all of the time, and it DOESN'T impair your phone calls or text messaging.
-Also, if you use an app called Y5 - Battery Saver, it will turn on Wifi ONLY for wifi networks you 'remembered' and when whey're in range.

One more question. On an online store, they state that this phone requires a permanent conection to the internet. So, when not in range of wifi, it always reverts to 3G or GPRS? Or can I configure it so that it only uses wifi (if available) and never reverts to 3G or GPRS or UMTS or any other internet access which requires access to through the operator?

Mine's the red icon. Its stock.
@Anonymous
You can remove your orange apps by first rooting your phone and then downloading titanium backup to remove the stock apps. Google search a app called Universal Androot. This will root your phone easily without the use of terminal.

Is it Taskiller(Red Icon), or Advanced Task killer(Green Icon)??
The one with the red icon is rubbish.
@Anonymous,
You should be able to update at the same time, as you can use a normal update on the Orange phone, but if you wanted to wait for Orange to gimp and cripple their software as usual, then just wait it out, until the Orange network mess it up, and release it...lol

I have actually tried everything you suggested, still no luck. I have never received error message about failed start or force close though, but I did reset the phone anyway, also I closed SNS with task killer, nothing helped.
Never mind, the standalone application is enough for me, it is just bothering me why it doesn't work.. :)
