RottenFoxBreath, 21 Sep 2010@ Anonymous, No, back button does not just minimise app... moreAlso of note, Advanced Task Killer is a bit zealous when it comes to closing apps, as some show up still running on it, when they clearly are not.
And some when closed with this programme, will start up again, or appear to stop, when they are still in fact running.

Other apps that use the back button to close, from experience, are Copilot, Astro, Camera 360 pro, Vignette, Tapatalk, Google Mail, Google Talk, the Market itself, Google Maps, Wifi File Explorer, Advanced Task Killer(go figure), SNS Service, Picsay Pro, and games...

It's more down to the Android platform, more than the app itself.

Please check facts before posting inaccuracy's.

No, back button does not just minimise apps...it closes them..check your running tasks when doing this, and you will see it ends apps, which for example, on Astro File Browser, it clearly states " press back once more to exit ".

Your comments are a bit contradictive, but I get the picture. Some apps are well built and close with the back button, other simply minimize.
Just keep an eye out for these!

Try again later, it may be busy(facebook) or re-enter your details again, and try again..
You can reboot your phone, as you may have had a warning that the sns service had failed to start or has to stop, an a force close window appears(usually only happens with a simlock on, I've experienced, but it does work eventually, if it errors out.)

pocaracas, 21 Sep 2010@RFB Thanks! I didn't notice that "if available"... more@ pocaracas,

Either back out of the app, using the touch sensor on the right(the curled arrow mark), which will close the app, or press the menu sensor when in an app, and some may have an "exit" button.

both ways will and can close apps, whereas if you press the home button, somemay not close, and merely return to your homepage, but still run.
If they are still running, you can press the menu sensor, and select notifications, and you will see it running in that window if its still active.
If theres nothing there, its not running.

                Hi,
I have bought mine from orange UK last weekend. (I had to use my phone fund balance, that's why orange..)
The phone is great, everything is fine, except one thing:
The integrated SN application doesn't seem to work. When I try to log in to facebook, it says "Unable to connect to SNG server". The connection is ok, I can browse etc., I have tried both wifi and 3G, but still no joy. Standalone downloaded facebook application is working fine however..
                Any ideas?

The Orange UK manual is called "first draft" so is slightly different from the Vodafone NZ one. But it doesn't have any new content. :(

                    Thanks!
I didn't notice that "if available", but yes, I assumed it was some copy/paste that went wrong.

slide and press speaker... simple! yet not in the manual.

One other question which might be more Android related than GT540. I am aware that there is a substantial difference between minimizing and closing an application. The curly arrow on the bottom right closes or minimizes? In case of the latter, how can an app be closed?

the manual says, "if available"..not every phone will have every feature, a thing about mass written manuals.

Anyhoo..onto the speaker..couldnt be simpler, when making a call, activate the screen, sliding the icon from left to right, and press, wait for it..."speaker".

It turns out that this manual doesn't answer my question on how to turn on the loudspeaker during calls.
It also claims that the phone has flash for the camera (?) and you can choose a 5Mpix shooting mode (?).

So, during a call, how do you activate the hands-free mode?
