Anonymous, 27 Jun 2021Does K42 have two year warranty?. With LG out of mobile bus... moreLG Electronics is alive and kicking, its mobile division is shut down. As being such a big company they value their customers.
LG Electronics will provide customers with hardware/ parts support for all their phones till 2026. Their software division will remain open and provide Android updates & security patches to phones.
As such two year warranty for LG K42 is a no brainier.

1) LG flagships are champions of bend test. My LG G8X & LG V30+ uses proper metal glass sandwich design with no side mounted fingerprint scanners. As such they are champions of durability.
2) I like side mounted fingerprint scanners on smartphones, due to usability and easy access. However, from durability perspective they induce a weak point on structural integrity of the device.
3) LG phones are always overpriced during launch. They always think to be the main competitors of Samsung and price accordingly. What they forget is they do not entertain the same brand value in smartphone market. The price over time fall like stone for LG. I always wait for the right time to buy. As for LG K42 my marker was INR 7,200 or $100. I got it from Flipkart at that price after card discounts.
4) Corning Gorilla glass are well known for sure, but the latest Panda glass are much better than age old Gorilla Glass 3. As Panda is not well known they may provide their latest glass at the same price for Gorilla Glass 3.
5) I highly doubt these apps which provide the CPU & RAM specifications on the phones. What I see is they maintain a database on the installed app which just finds out the device name, matching which show most of the data from DB rather than actual measurement which they may not have access to in Android. Take a very less known phone say my Alcatel 5V running on company specified Helio P22 SoC and 3 GB of RAM. So when I install say CPU-Z or DevCheck apps it shows P35 & 3 GB of unspecified RAM. This is because 5V is rare and is not listed in their DB. So this apps should not be blindly trusted. I am highly doubtful of K42 indeed uses 3 GB of LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 1600MHz. That too in dual channel mode. Or is it copied from Mediatek website to their database and shows us such?
6) The last true LG designed phone that went into production is LG K42. Just bumping up RAM, slightly upgraded SoC (P22 to P35, as both are pin compatible with each other), more internal memory and better camera sensors we get K52, Q52, K62 with a higher price tag. All these 4 models have the same internal as well as external base design, identical dimensions, same display and battery. I agree K52 would have been the perfect balance between performance, looks and price. However even after price cut K52 would have been around INR 10K mark.

RishiGuru, 23 Jun 2021My own take:
1) Build quality of a smartphone does not j... moreReplies
1) I agree to that. Bend tests are just for testing purpose and no one is going to bend their phone intentionally.
2) Well, the MIL-STD-810G certification got me excited that's all. I agree that phones with side mounted fingerprint sensors have weaker frames. But that design is refreshing. As for the price , i think LG got it wrong when they priced it Rs 10999 initially. A price of Rs 8999 would have made this phone more popular. At a price of Rs 10999 people think of other cheap options like xiaomi, realme etc
3)Don't know about panda etc but what i am saying is Realme c3( for comparsion a cheap phone) is having gorilla glass 3 (an old version but still gorilla). And gorilla glass is certainly well known than panda etc . do you know which glass is used in K42?
4)Partially agree with you
5)But when i checked with lots of cpu/device info apps from playstore, it is showing as if K42 is actually using LPDDR4x 1600Mhz version of 3GB ram, not the LPDDR3 version. According to mediatek
a)LPDDR3 at 933MHz up to 4GB ram
b)LPDDR4x at 1600MHz up to 6GB ram
So it is possible that K42 is using the second version with only 3GB ram.
6) I still think some features are missing in LG UX like secure folder, a decent file manager, call recording etc . Of course these can be called as bloat wares. As for me i don't like LG dailer app because messaging app is from google so installed google dailer and set it as my default dailer/phone app
7) I agree that there is no comparison between LG, Samsung and the Chinese manufacturers. Companies like LG have their own legacy. LG should have launched K52 instead of K42 in India.

Not known, 22 Jun 2021Finally purchased this phone from flipkart. It is a good bu... moreMy own take:
1) Build quality of a smartphone does not just imply it will pass bend test with flying colours. Then phones made of cast iron with a rusty look will be known as best build phones. Build quality of smartphones signifies materials used in the body, its execution and craftsmanship. Of course durability is one of the cornerstones of built quality, but is is not the only parameter.
2) MIL-STD-810G certification does not mean it will survive extreme bend test. For a INR 7,200 ($100) phone, the LG K42 is naturally made of plastic body and not metal because of cost reasons. Secondly, side mounted fingerprint scanners which are a norm now requires a big hole to be made on the side frame of the phone to fit the scanner. This hole on the side-frame is the weak point of any smartphone with side mounted fingerprint scanner. It is from this region the K42 breaks under extreme bend test just like almost all plastic made side mounted fingerprint phones.
3) Latest Panda & Skotch Sensation glass are far better than 5 year old Corning glass. Latest Corning glass is expensive and is not expected on a $100 phone.
4) Personally I believe K42 has excellent built quality and looks with more attention paid to usability. A good quality display, oleophobic coating on display glass, good average display brightness, USB Type C, very good tactile feel from the physical buttons are all welcome on K42.
5) However performance leaves a lot to be deserved, very efficient but old P22 SoC, only 3GB LPDDR3 RAM and 32 bit Android 10. The overall performance would have been greatly improved if they have used atleast 4 GB LPDDR4X RAM along with 64 bit Android 10.
6) LG UI over Android 10 is enough for my needs, though I admit Samsung UI is slightly more polished. LG may be terrible in providing timely updates, but they never perform planned obsolesce with every update like Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
7) Manufacturers like LG never gun for the best SoC or biggest battery in a certain price category like Chinese manufacturers. They try to find a reasonable balance will all component costs. For me the only complain I have fro K42 is more RAM and 64 bit Android.

Finally purchased this phone from flipkart. It is a good buy at Rs 7999 but i do not know why lg initially released this model at Rs 10999. Already activated 2nd year warranty .This is a MIL-STD-810G compliant phone so i was excited about its build quality. The frame of the phone is actually plastic with a metal finish paint. The paint may peel off after some time like some old samsung phones. I watched some youtube videos in which K42 actually fails especially in bend test. The glass is also no corning gorilla .So i think 'MIL-STD-810G compliant phone' LG K42 is nothing but a gimmick.
Pros
I am impressed by the large screen with punch hole which makes K42 give a more expensive and modern look.
Lg 3d sound engine is good when compared to dolby atmos(another gimmick) in samsung phones.
Has fm radio with recording( i think) and has triple sim slot
LG Ux is good but looks incomplete when compared to one ui. For example there is lg dailer app(no call recording which is a shame) but no messaging app from lg.
Has gcam support
Fingerprint scanner is good and its position is refreshing.
Weight is only 182gms(because of 4000mah battery)
Cons
Disappointed with build quality. A cheap chinese phone like realme c3 has better build quality( based on youtube bend tests). MIL-STD-810G compliant phone is just hype.
Battery should have been 5000mah
Chipset is weak( should have been atleast P35 which supports 1080p screens)
Lg is terrible in providing updates(when compared to samsung) LG k42 may get andriod 11 in q4 2021.
No call recording(They should have provided call recording at least in India as Samsung does.

Tom, 15 Jun 2021How is the camera? What is the body material?Body construction is the best you can get under INR 10K ($140). All phones of this range have poly-carbonate/ plastic body, but for LG K42 you get Mil-Std 810G certification. No phone under $200 from other brands has this. So K42's durability has been verified by the strict US Military Standard Tests. Apart from that the phone has a very unique back construction providing excellent in hand feel and grip. Simply the best in this price range.
Camera is not so good, performs like a cheap $100 phone as expected. Don't expect any miracles here.

Anonymous, 02 Jun 2021Since K42 is running 32 bit android the gcam support is lim... moreLG K42 uses 32-bit Android 10 due to limited RAM of just 3 GB. 64-bit Android 10 needs minimum 4 GB to operate in a good way. And then the RAM time in all probability of slower LPDDR3 type.
Mediatek Helio P22 on K42 is still a capable SoC, and the performance would have been much improved if a faster LPDDR4x RAM had been used of minimum 4 GB capacity.
